Could Almon be a variation of a French name? No one names their children Jean Baptiste except the French as far as I know. Found them in the 1881 census and listed as French and they are the only family listed in Nova Scotia with this name. Hi Julie, Almon is a French name common in the Little Bras d'Or area. It has been found as Almon=Almond=Almong=Allemand. Louis L'Allemond was born ca 1768 in France. He was the son of Jean- Michel L'Allemond and Henriette-Julienne Caplain. He settled at George's River near Little Bras d'Or and married Francoise Jessome. They probably met in Miquelon.
