Born in Barrie, Ont., she was the daughter of the late James and Olive MacLeod. Betty loved knitting and playing bingo and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl (Leo) Robinson, Ingonish, Kim Sederquest, Sydney Mines; and one son, Nick Anthis, Ingonish; seven grandchildren, Shelly, Diane, Nicholas, Nick, Keith, Michael, Leah; 10 great-grandchildren, Robert, Luke, Zoe, Santia, Lydia, Carter, Sabastian, Yurik, Alexandra and Nicholi. She was predeceased by her brothers, Gordon and Wally, and a sister, Madeline. Visitation for Betty will be held from 7-9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Beatrice (Poirier) AuCoin. She is survived by her sisters, Leona (Jack Macdonald), Toronto, Monica (Dale Smith), Halifax; nephews, Shane (Jessica) and Todd Smith, Halifax; and her uncle, Paul/Midi (Yvonne) Poirier, Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford. Born in Britt, Ont., he was the son of the late Herman and Dorilda (Charette) Bernier of Ontario. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima parish and Branch 12 Royal Canadian Legion. He worked for CNCP until his retirement. He was an avid gardener, who loved spending time at his bungalow at Blacketts Lake. He is survived by his wife, Jean (Kenney); daughters, Janet (Mike), Sydney; Susan, Sackville, N.S.; sons, Peter (Eddie), Toronto, Ont.; Brian, Sydney River; grandchildren John David, Trevor, Steven, Amanda, Erica, great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Jessica, Kenna, Breanne; brother, René; sister-in-law, Marg and by numerous nieces and nephews. Annie Mae leaves behind her loving husband of 45 years, Robert W Cunningham; two sons, Robert Norman, Halifax and Darryl Mader (Claudia), Sydney, as well as a very large circle of family and friends. Annie Mae loved her home in Mira, being creative while knitting or crafting, enjoying her gardening and being surrounded by her four legged friends. Born in Glace Bay, Dolly was the daughter of the Noah Eldon and Lydia Jane (Woorth) King. She was employed in the house keeping department of the Glace Bay General Hospital and was a member of Epworth United Church. Dolly is survived by her companion, Neil Dearing; sons, Gary (Donna), Glace Bay, Leslie (Sharon), Oromocto N.B. and David (Cathy), Thornton Ont.; sister, Jean (Mrs. George Burte), Glace Bay; brothers, William (Theresa) and Fred (Kay), both of Glace Bay. Born in Toronto, October 23, 1947 to the late R. Laird and Margaret (MacAulay) Mowat. Laura moved to Cape Breton in her teens and while raising a family she proceeded to follow her dream of becoming a nurse and graduated from St. Rita School of Nursing. She was an avid supporter and volunteer of youth football. Moving to Victoria in 1987 she continued her nursing career and took up another love, Scottish country dancing. She was an active member of St. Michaels and All Angels Anglican Church where she was the church secretary and a devoted member of the choir. Predeceased by her parents, Laird and Margaret; brothers, Mark and Ian in infancy and special friend David Hould. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Stella (Paruch) Sobol. After graduating from school in Sydney, she attended St. Francis Xavier University, acquiring a Bachelor of Music degree in 1964. Upon receiving her degree, she became a sister with the Congregation of Notre Dame, Montreal and served with the order 11 years on mission in Antigonish. In 1975 she accepted a position as music teacher with the Cumberland District School Board, serving Amherst, Parrsboro, Advocate, Springhill and River Hebert teaching hundreds of children a week until her retirement in 1991. Janet was an active member of the Holy Family parish, Amherst. A great lover of music and teaching, she was active in all facets of music, being involved in the teachers union, music festivals and many music committees. Janet will be sadly missed by brothers, John (Valerie) Sobol of S.S. Boularderie, N.S. and Nicholas (Josie) Sobol of East Bay, N.S.; sisters, Marilyn Morrison and Sharon Sobol, both of Sydney; a nephew, Benjamin and nieces, Mary Colleen, Brenda, Karen and Danielle.
