Ottawa Citizen March 14, 2009 Charles MacDonald MACDONALD, Charles Reginald In loving memory of Charles Reginald MacDonald who passed away on March 11, 2009 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Ottawa. Reg was predeceased by his parents Alphonse and Jessie (Campbell). He is survive by his wife of 53 years Joan (Martin), his daughter Margaret (Brian) McLaughlin, his son Reg (Teresa), his grandchildren Sarah McLaughlin, Joey, Christopher and Matthew MacDonald, his sister Joan (Fraser) Muir and many nieces and nephews. Reg was born on June 16, 1930 and proudly raised in Sydney, Nova Scotia. He graduated from St. FX as an engineer in 1951. He worked for the CN Railway before moving as a newlywed to Ottawa to take a job with Public Works Canada in 1956. Reg was Chief Engineer for many years for National Capital Commission and retired in 1988. One of his noteworthy legacies is the first spiral staircase along the canal near the NAC. He devoted over 50 years as Choir Director of St. Theresa's Catholic Church sharing his passion for singing and the love of his faith. He was well known as a tenor soloist and sang with the The Unforgettable Hearts Club of Ottawa taking part in many local productions. He even recorded his own CD of inspirational songs with piano accompaniment of his longtime friend Evelyn Greenberg and was thrilled to have sung at an Ottawa Lynx baseball game. He never forgot his Maritime roots and returned to Nova Scotia every year until his health no longer allowed. He will be fondly remembers and sadly missed by family and the many friends that have been a major part of his life. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 1255 Walkley Road (east of Bank) Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass In Memory of Reg will be held Wednesday at St. Theresa Catholic Church ( Cartier at Somerset) at 11:00am. Reception to follow at Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation for Riverside Hemodialysis Unit would be appreciated.
