Searching for g*ll*s, al* in Cape Breton, Glace Bay I find: Gilles, Alex Male 68 Single Cape Breton, Sub-District Name: Institutions The district name on the image is blank and the columns are filled with codes:15-1, 16-1, 17 blank, 18 (brother) What is this Sub District? and how do I get to the first page. when I search for blank, blank or *, *, Nova Scotia Cape Breton, Institutions I get 33603 names, ie the entire district, The SubDistrict search appears to be broken. I will write LAC tomorrow. There is only one other male Gillis, a James age 50, DD&B. However Alex had no brother James. There is a James in the 1881 Census that meets the info in the 1891 Census: he was age 40 a married farmer from Grand Narrows. And there is no Alex in Grand Narrows. > > If he was a miner, that would not be unusal, and he may have gone to > Sydney, Florence, Sydney Mines, or left the county and took up > residence in other communities with coal mining, such as Inverness, > Port Hood, Pictou, Albion Mines, Stellarton etc, in Nova Scotia. I went though the 127 G*l*s, Al* and looked at everyone age 35 up. The wife, religion or occupation were wrong.
