Parsons, Joyce E - published March 4, 2009 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marie Lyle, Sydney Mines at Sydney Mines , Nova Scotia , Canada - It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our dear mother, Marie Lyle, age 94, on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the Miners Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines, surrounded by her loving family. Marie was a life long and prominent resident of Tobin Road. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Margaret (Sutherland) MacLean. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, North Sydney. Mom devoted her early years to raising her family, whom she was extremely proud of. She always had a strong will and great work ethic, which showed in the many careers she held throughout her lifetime. She certainly had great faith and lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed music, dancing, bingo, her cars and most of all family gatherings. Marie is survived by daughter, Marlaene (Alex Russell), North Sydney; sons, Danny (Joan), Ottawa and Jimmie (Rodgerena), Sydney Mines; daughters-in-law, Wendy, Arlene and Cathy; son-in-law, Joe Dove; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; daughter, Margaret; sons, Brenton, Hilton, John and Gordon; daughter-in-law, Doreen and grandson, Todd. The family would like to thank the staff, volunteers and associates of the Miners Memorial Manor for the exceptional care that our mother received during the past 16 years. Visitation for Marie will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Thursday) in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late Bill and Aurora (Dejeet) MacLeod. He was employed at Sydney Steel for 31 years. He will be remembered for his love of bowling and his many 400s and for his love of Lionel trains and local train history. Layton was a member of St. Pauls Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and as a member of the board of managers. He was a member of the church choir. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ruby (Turner) MacLeod and his children, Layton (Kim), Port Williams, N.S., Laurel Beth (Bruce) Smith, Glace Bay, Lisa (Harvey) MacEachern, Glace Bay, Lincoln (Denise), Baddeck, Lowell (Mary Lynn), Glace Bay. He is survived by his grandchildren whom he dearly loved, Sara, Billy and Angus MacLeod; Liam Smith; Fraser, Carter and Maura MacLeod; Colin and Emily MacLeod. He is survived by his sister, Glenda (Colin) Cassie in Victoria, B.C. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late John Neil Jack and Alice (Bona) MacIsaac. Lexie grew up on Park Street in Ashby. She was the youngest sister of the fun-loving and feisty MacIsaac family, of which she was the last surviving sibling. Lexie dedicated her life to the care of her family; first her father and her many nieces and nephews, then her husband, her son and his family. She is survived by her son, Joseph (Joanne) and her two granddaughters, Emma and Mary Jane, of Sydney. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, with special mention of nephew, Eddie Hemmings and nieces, Judy Bergeron, Alexis DeLong and Patricia Lamoureaux. She leaves behind her dear friend Mary Catherine Frances Christoff. Alexis was predeceased by her husband, Joe Gib; sisters, Mabel MacLennan, Catherine Clarke, Mary Hemmings and Cecelia Leslie and brothers, James, Wilfred, Michael and Joseph. Cremation has taken place. By request, there will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, Saturday, March 7, at 11 a.m., with Fr. Errol MacDonald officiating. A reception will follow immediately in the church basement. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery. Born in Toronto, October 23, 1947 to the late R. Laird and Margaret (MacAulay) Mowat. Laura moved to Cape Breton in her teens and while raising a family she proceeded to follow her dream of becoming a nurse and graduated from St. Rita School of Nursing. She was an avid supporter and volunteer of youth football. Moving to Victoria in 1987 she continued her nursing career and took up another love, Scottish country dancing. She was an active member of St. Michaels and All Angels Anglican Church where she was the church secretary and a devoted member of the choir. Predeceased by her parents, Laird and Margaret; brothers, Mark and Ian in infancy and special friend David Hould. Margaret was born in Sydney Mines and grew up in Boularderie. She was a resident of MacGillivary Guest Home, assisted living. Margaret was a devoted wife to her husband, Joseph and they would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on May 24th of this year. She was a loving mother to her children and grandchildren and a beloved sister, aunt and friend. Margaret is survived by her husband, Joe; daughters, Catherine (Stephen) Soltesz, Angela and Joseph; Mary Cserynik, Steven and Jason and Margaret (Gerry) House, Lindsey and Bradley; son, Patrick (Rachel) ORielley, Mitchel and Jillian; brother, George Jobes; sister, Anne (Leo) Ryan; nieces and nephews. Margaret was a member of the Cape Breton Fiddlers Association and looked forward to performing each summer at the concert held at the Gaelic College, St. Anns. Joyce also cared for and looked after numerous children throughout her life. Joyce was a member of the Salvation Army.
