In the marriage register she was age 22 so born in 1905-1906. There is a delayed birth registration applied for by herself that give her birth date as 25Sep 1905. Her father is given in the birth record as Ronald MacDonald and in the marriage record as Donald A McDonald and Mary Campbell. The only marriage between a Ronald A D McDonald and Mary J Campbell is in 1917 - Book: 24 - Page: 51 - Number: and all the image shows is a front page of a marriage license 21051 dated 22 Aug 1917. Can I assume that her parents were not married until 15 years after her birth? A least one record has the father's name as Ranald and as one of her sons was so named I guess that was the actual spelling bob gillis
Hello Bob; It is never wise to 'assume' something in genealogy, because 9 times out of 10, someone will come along and blew it out of the water. If you plan on leaving a family history for your children, grandchildren, or just your family in general, make it the best you can. For someone some day will follow your footsteps and be lead astray with assumptions. They have a habit of becoming erroneous facts overtime. It can take years to unravel, especially when so many just take and include it in their work, to perpetuate it. My answer to your question than "Can I assume that her parents were not married until 15 years after her birth?" is a most definite "NO!" Once you check these records out, you will discover, that the "Clue" to who the family was, is contained in Dolena Evelyn MacDonald, late birth registration. Your Dolena Evelyn MacDonald, who married James Charles Hunt, was the daugther of a former POLICE CHIEF OF SYDNEY, RONALD ALLAN MACDONALD. Dolena's family can be found on the 1911 census for "32 Sydney, p. 31, family 262. She was listed by her 2nd name of "EVELYN" and her father was listed as "ROLAND" on the census. At that time her father was a Policeman, but at the time of her birth as well as her br. Rodk's birth, June 22, 1907 and at the time of his marriage he had been a carpenter. Note her father's name appears as "Roland" on the 1911 census, & on other documents as "Ronald A" "Ranald A" and even "Donald A" per the extract on Dolena's marriage extract [obviously an error] use for late birth reg. and the "A" in his name stands for Allan.
