Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes (Campbell) Johnston. She was a member of Immaculate Heart parish, Mira Road. For a while she was employed at Smith's Bakery in Ashby and then later she was bakery manager at Sobeys. Barbara loved music and dancing and she enjoyed the company of her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Bernie; her daughter, Leasa and; son, Trevor. Also left to mourn are her sisters, Margaret 'Mickey' (Frank) Kokocki, Sydney, Georgina (George) Gale, Sydney, Joanne (Brian) MacDonald, Ontario, Raylene (Paul) Drysdale, Sydney, Earlene (Joe) Landry, Sydney, Rose (Kevin) MacDonald, Glace Bay; and her brothers, Gary (Maggie), Ontario, Thomas (Gail) Bras d'Or, Joey, Ontario, and Cecil (Chris) Ontario. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 4 at 2 p.m. at St. Anthony Daniel Church with Fr. Donald MacGillivary officiating. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Francis and Lillian (Steele) Cooke. He was a member of St. Pius X parish, Sydney Mines. Jackie worked in coal mines in Grand Cache, Alta., and Cape Breton until he retired in 1997. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Thelma Jane (Halliday) Cooke; his daughter, Ian; son, Gerald (Helen); and a sister, Linda (Jackie) Hurd. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Cheyenne and Kelly; and his great-grandchildren, MacKenzie and Madison. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Leo. Born May 3, 1927, in New Victoria, C.B., she was the eldest child of the late John Dan 'Francis Hector' and Mary Ann (Michael B. 'Soldier' MacDonald) MacNeil, New Waterford. Mom came to Truro from her home in Cape Breton 62 years ago. In Truro, she met her husband, the late Arthur Eugene DeCoste. She was employed at The Open Kitchen and Stanfields. Throughout her life, Mom was totally devoted to her family, especially when her grandchildren came along. For many years, she was a caregiver to her mother and father. She enjoyed family times and numerous trips each summer back to her beloved Cape Breton. Very knowledgeable in her family history, she instilled a strong sense of pride in all of us for our Cape Breton heritage. Talks of her youth in Cape Breton always reverted back to her summers spent in Grand Narrows with her cousins at her grandmother MacDonald's. She was a member of the Highland Village Society, Iona and a proud member of the Clan MacNeil. Everyone always looked forward to her biscuits and bannock, which will never be duplicated. Cil is survived by son, Daniel 'Dan' (Peggy), Debert; daughters, Betty (Barry) Merlin, Hilden, Doris (Dave) Anderson, Truro; grandchildren, James DeCoste, South Korea, Jennifer Merlin, Truro, Heidi Anderson, Truro; sisters, Irene, Catherine, Josephine, Rhodena; brothers, Daniel, Michael, Ambrose; 26 nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by sister, Elizabeth, brother, Angus Jerome in infancy. He died peacefully at home surrounded by family and close friends. Dannie was born in Baddeck Bay and was the son of the late Anne (MacDonald) and Murdock MacAulay. He was a retired mechanic and partner at MacAulay's Garage and later an innkeeper with his wife Isobel at Inverary Inn. He was involved in Greenwood United Church, Baddeck AA Group as a founding member, St. Mark's Lodge #35, Victoria Chapter OES, Gideon's Salvation Army Board, lay preaching and served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. Dannie is survived by his wife and best friends of 67 years, the former Isobel MacDonald; as well as children, Marjorie Dawn (Linden), Hillsborough, N.B., Charlotte (Vince), Riverview, N.B., Debbie (Neil), Baddeck, Scott (Terri), Baddeck and Kim (Tom), Halifax. Dannie was blessed with 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother and former business partner, Gordon, Baddeck and many special nephews, nieces, cousins, caregivers and his faithful sheltie, Jamie. Dannie was predeceased by teenage son, Daniel; infant daughter, Joy Anne; sisters, Margaret and Isobel; brothers, Alex and Dougal; son-in-law, Don Rough; in-laws, Marjorie and John Voorhees; special mother-in-law, Tye; brother-in-law, Campbell; niece, Margaret and nephews, Buster and Fraser. Dannie had a curious mind and worked well with the many challenges of life. He had a down to earth wisdom. He loved to work hard (and see others do the same!), visit with anyone and help all in need. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, Sheldon was the son of Noreen and the late George Morrison. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Viola (MacLeod); and his three devoted children, William (Jenifer), Shelene (Gary) Gilmour and Jillian (Darryl). Sheldon is also survived by his cherished sister, Billie (Blair) MacPhee, to whom he was forever grateful for her gift of extended life. Sheldon was blessed with three grandsons, Joshua, Henry and Dane, who all brought a special joy to his life. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins who were a part of his large extended family that he loved dearly. Besides his father George, Sheldon was predeceased by a son at infancy, his mother and father-in-law, Catherine and William MacLeod and sister-in-law, Katherine Kachafanas. Sheldon was a member of the first graduating class of Eastern Tech, with a diploma in electrical technology. He was employed with the Cape Breton Development Corporation as a senior electrical technologist and project manager. He was a member of the team that won the National Mine Rescue Competition in 1973. Sheldon was an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He enjoyed both restoring old motorcycles and many trips with friends. He spent much of his time outdoors, especially in his beloved piece of paradise, Big Pond. There he enjoyed fishing, sailing, music around the campfire and entertaining friends. Sheldon was widely known for his electrical, mechanical and carpentry skills, which he willingly shared with family and friends. He will be remembered for his keen sense of humour and quick wit. His stories will be with us forever and continue to make us laugh. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Born in New Waterford, Jan. 3, 1959, Michael was the son of Dorothy (Petrie) Scott, of New Waterford, and the late Raymond Scott. Michael is survived by his pride and joy, Michael Scott Jr.; sister, Cheryl (Gerald) Gillis, all of New Waterford; and brother, Bernard Scott, British Columbia. Michael is also survived by nieces Ashley, Lisa and Lacey. Besides his father, he was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents. Michael's quiet nature, wit and sense of humour will be greatly missed. He surrounded himself with treasures including Lorraine, his close friends and extended family. Mike was involved in sea cadets as a young boy, loved the outdoors and was an avid fan of stock car races. He worked in construction for many years and owned his own business. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, and taking pride in working with his hands is how he will forever be remembered. There will be no visitation by request.
