Williams, Gladys B - published February 20, 2009 ___________________________________________________________________________ Violet Bonner, Sydney Born in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada, - It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving mother, devoted wife, and greatest grandmother, Violet (Burton) Bonner, 72, on February 19, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late James and Sarah (MacLellan) Burton. Violet is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Leonard Bonner; one son, Leonard Bonner, Sydney Mines; daughters, Deborah Anderson, Sydney Mines, Stephanie Bonner, North Sydney and Charlene Bonner, Sydney Mines. She is also survived by one sister, Florence Blackie, Sydney Mines. She will be sadly missed by her six grandchildren, Sam and Steven Anderson, Virginia and Eric Bateman, and Ashley and Shelby Bonner. Our mother was a wonderful loving person who loved to be surrounded by family. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She had many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly and looked forward to seeing at family gatherings, and always welcomed visits from her many family and friends. Besides her parents, Violet was predeceased by her brothers, George, Murdock, and John Burton; sisters, Margaret Hollingsworth, Ann MacNeil and Sadie MacDonald; a very precious grand niece, Cindy Gilbert, and her daughter-in-law, Anne Mae MacKinnon. There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place under the care and direction of J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines. A memorial service to celebrate Violet’s life will be held Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Peter Refuse officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Violet’s memory may be made to Cape Breton Cancer Center or the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. She was a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care for the past 10 years but spent the majority of her life in Sydney’s north-end. Proud to be born in Ingonish, she was the daughter of the late Rupert and Elizabeth (MacIntosh) Curtis. Survived by two sons, Curtis Whalen, Sydney, Leonard Whalen (Barbara), Ottawa; three stepsons, Bill Donovan (Jan), Roland Donovan, both of North Sydney, Kenneth Donovan (Rose), Ingonish Beach; five daughters, Betty McInnis, Toronto, Sylvia Lowes (Larry), Clarksburg, Ont., Cecilia Shoniker (John), Kingston, Ont., Bernadette Joseph (Bobby), Anna Radzikowski (Vince), both of Sydney; four stepdaughters, Sharon Williams (Fred), Rosemary LaRusic (John), Ann Hussey (Keith), all of Ingonish and Paula Mayich (John), Lr. Sackville. She is also survived by her sister, Daisy (Steele) MacPherson. Hannah’s kind heart and ‘treats’ will also be remembered by her 31 grandchildren,18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was predeceased by her first husband, Leonard Whalen (1972) and second husband, Walter Donovan (1992); one son, Russell (1952) and one son-in-law, Andrew (2007); two sisters, Ethel Ross and Bernice MacNeil and five brothers Tom, Leo, Lauchie, Morris and William. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Palliative Care Unit. Born in Bras d’Or, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Sarah ‘Sadie’ Carey. She was a dedicated homemaker who loved to bake delicious goodies and spend all her time with her family and friends. She especially looked forward to the large family get-togethers every year in Big Baddeck on July 1st. She will be sadly missed by Eric, her devoted husband of 33 years; her daughters, Tracey (Terry) Inder, North Sydney, Karen (Trevor) Snow, Florence, Patricia (Barry) MacIntyre, Sydney Mines; her six grandchildren, Terry and Ashley Inder, Christian, Mason and Emily Snow and Kalee MacIntyre, all of whom were her pride and joy. Born in Burgeo, Nfld., he was the son of the late Fred and Fanny (Harris) Ingram. He was a retired fisherman, who was formerly employed at H.B. Nickerson & Sons and later as the skipper of his own boat, the Derek & Sheri. Sid, a devoted Christian, was known by many for his strong faith, love for God and kindness to others. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church most of his life and attended Grace Fellowship Church in Sydney Mines. Surviving are his daughters and sons, Cindy (Paul) Hawkins, Lawrencetown, Paul (Rebecca) Ingram, Lower Sackville, Cherri Ingram, Eastern Passage and Joel (Cristen) Ingram, Lower Sackville; his grandchildren, Crystal and John Hawkins, Jessica, Jeremy and Shannon Ingram, Logan and Jamie Lee Bissett and Brennan, Nicholas, Logan, Caleb and Joshua Ingram. Born in Sydney, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Allan and Mildred (Lyons) LaRocque. Nancy worked for Royal Print and Packaging for 25 years and for the past five years worked for the Joseph Howe Superstore. Nancy was a loving sister who enjoyed reading, camping and “Coronation Street”. A loyal friend, she will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Edward and Mabel (MacIssac) MacLennan. Rick was a chef by trade and although not recently employed in the field continued over the years to enjoy and shower others with his excellent cooking skills. He was an avid sports fan and his love of the Montreal Canadians as well as NFL was evident to all who knew him. Rick’s quick wit and comic humour was a trait he was well known for. His positive happy demeanor never wavered. Rick is survived by his sister, Patricia Lamoureux, Sydney; four nieces, Wendy MacIntyre, Ann Marie MacLennan, Lisa MacLennan Ross, and Jennifer MacLennan; two nephews, Edward MacLennan, Jason MacLennan, as well as his good friends, Rose and Donnie Courage. Morrison, 92 of Sydney River and Halifax, passed away very peacefully at the Halifax Infirmary on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, after a brief two day stay in hospital. He was a resident of Veterans Memorial, Camp Hill. Born in Cleveland, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Angus Morrison and Margaret (Campbell) Morrison. A veteran of the Second World War, Michael served overseas with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. He worked for numerous car dealerships in Sydney until his retirement at age 66. He was a very active member of the Cape Breton Bridge Club for many years. He was proud of his Scottish heritage and the Gaelic language and he loved the Cape Breton violin music. Michael will be remembered as a gentle, modest man with a great sense of humour and he was also a proud Toronto Maple Leafs fan. He was a person of very deep faith and was a former member of Our Lady of Fatima parish, Sydney River, until his move to Halifax in 2002. He attended mass daily at Camp Hill. Special thanks to V4E staff at Camp Hill and to Fr. Michael Walsh and also to the staff at the Infirmary who attended to him. He is survived by his loving daughter, Denise (Ken) Doucette, Halifax and his loving son, Ernie (Florence Ann) Morrison, Whitby, Ont.; his beloved grandchildren, Paul (Deborah) Doucette, Halifax, Stacey (Colin) Hadden and Stephen Morrison, Whitby, Ont. Born February 7, 1934 in Cape Breton, N.S., late of Tilbury, Ont. Dearest grandfather to 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and dearest brother to Johnny Roach; many nieces and nephews. Gus was a retiree of Ford Motor Company, a member of CAW Local 200 and a veteran of the Royal Canadian Airforce. Gus’s ashes will be placed with his father in New Waterford, N.S. at a later date. ___________________________________________________________________________ Gladys Williams, Louisbourg Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, - Gladys Belle Williams, 95 of Louisbourg, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. She was the daughter of the late Artamus Levy and Gertrude (Hershman) (Levy) Cleveland, and stepdaughter of the late Donald Cleveland, all of Indian Harbour, Halifax. Gladys was a member of Stella Maris Parish, Louisbourg and a lifelong member of the Stella Maris Catholic Woman’s League, Louisbourg, serving for a number of years as a member of the executive including president. She had worked in her earlier years at the local fish plants. She enjoyed a good game of cards, including 45s and cribbage. Gladys is survived by her devoted husband, John ‘Jackie’ Thomas Williams, Louisbourg; daughter, Ruby Berringer, Dartmouth; grandson John (Janet) Berringer and great-granddaughter Loanna Berringer, all of Fall River. She is also survived by sisters, Effie (Levy) Fiander; Annie (Cleveland) Smith; brothers Harold and Keith (Cleveland), all of the Halifax area. Also surviving is sister-in-law, Sadie (Williams) Parsons, Main-a-Dieu and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, John Patrick Leo Williams, Louisbourg; brothers, Raymond and Roland Cleveland and sisters, Dora (Levy) Kane and Hilda (Cleveland) O’Neill, Indian Harbour and son-in-law, Gordon Berringer, Dartmouth.
