Turnbull, Graham Morrison - published February 13, 2009 Duncan 'Buddy' Capstick, Neil's Harbour Born in Capstick, Nova Scotia, Canada, - We the family of the late Buddy Capstick are saddened to announce his passing at Buchanan Memorial Health Center, Neil’s Harbour, on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, after a lengthy illness. Born in Capstick, Victoria County, he was the son of the late W. J. Duncan and Margaret M. (MacDonald) Capstick. He was a member of St. Margaret’s parish. Buddy served with the Canadian Army in the Second World War. He worked as an inshore fisherman. He is survived by his two grandsons, John L. and Bernard ‘Bud’ Burton; sister, Bertha Kanarie; brother Ernest (Marie) Capstick and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Buddy was predeceased by a son, John; brothers, Ronald, Dan R. and Angus. Visitation for Buddy Capstick will be held in St. Margaret’s Parish Center, St. Margaret’s Village, on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass celebrating his life will take place on Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Margaret’s Church, with Fr. Dan MacDonald officiating. The burial will take place in the spring. Donations in Buddy’s memory may be made to St. Margaret’s Church. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Theresa (Hayes) Gardiner. She enjoyed walks on the beach and spending time with her family. Jenny is survived by her daughter, April (Warren) Higgins; sisters, Josie Hill, Rose (John) Jack, Pearl Gardiner and Theresa Robic; brothers, Mike (Ann) Gardiner, Charlie Gardiner, Jim Gardiner, John (Thomasina) Gardiner, as well as her sunshine, granddaughter, Jennie. She is also survived by her dear friends, Kenneth Bishop and John MacIssac as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Betty MacNeil, Nora Washbrook, Bridget Ann Gardiner and a brother in infancy. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Sunday, Feb. 15,2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of… Neville King, Glace Bay Born in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, - Neville Chamberlain King, 73, Richmond Street, Sydney, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2009, at the Cape Breton Healthcare Complex, Glace Bay. Born in St. John’s, Nfld., he was a son of the late Alpheus and Ada (Day) King. Neville was employed with Cape Breton Beverages for 25 years, until retirement. Surviving are his wife, Thelma; daughter, Deborah (Steve) Miller, Hills Road, Mira; son, Richard (Helen), Howie Centre; sister, Sherry MacNeil, B.C.; grandchildren, Jessica and Spencer Miller. Neville was predeceased by his sister, Myrtle, who was born in New York. We would like to thank Dr. MacNeil and the nurses at the ICU unit in Glace Bay, as well as, Dr. Coakley and the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday 11 a. m., with Rev. Fred Rhymes officiating. Ethel Manuel, Baie Ste Anne Born in Alder Point, Nova Scotia, Canada, - It is with profound sadness we announce the death of our dear mother and grandmother, Ethel Manuel. Ethel joined the angels on February 4, 2009, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born in Alder Point, N.S. and was the daughter of Mary (Devoe) Fry and the late James Fry. She was a devoted member of Ste. Anne Church in Baie Ste. Anne, N.B. Ethel graduated from Mount St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Chatham, N.B. in 1953. She won a warm spot in the hearts of all she met while training there. Ethel enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, reading and occasionally she joined her husband moose hunting. She gave with a heart full of love and no one who visited her home left empty handed. She will be remembered as a gracious lady who never complained and accepted the challenge of life with grace and dignity. She will be greatly missed by her husband Benoit Manuel; her 10 children and 16 grandchildren who were her precious jewels. Messenger 1925 - 2009 Dominion - It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce that our father, grandfather, great grandfather and most importantly, our friend, Harold Sinclair Messenger has passed away on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009 at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex. This date also was Harold and Mary Alice’s 62nd Wedding Anniversary. A native of Dominion Street, Sydney, Harold was the son of the late Millage and Rosetta (Johnson) Messenger. Harold was employed with the Sydney Steel Plant for many years. Upon his retirement, he was employed as a Commissionaire for several years. Harold was a veteran stationed in Pettawawa and served in Korea. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Ruth (Roger) MacNeil, Fort Erie, Ontario, Marie (Tony) MacPherson, Hazel Messenger, Evelyn (Brian) Gouthro – only son, Harold (Tillie), Dominion all of Dominion and one sister, Hazel Messenger, Kitchener, Ontario; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Alice (Forbes); brothers, Melbourne, Allister, Russell and one sister, Mary. Leo Nolan, Glace Bay Leo Nolan 84, Glace Bay - The family of Leo Nolan is deeply saddened to announce his peaceful passing on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009 at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex. Leo was the son of the late Michael and Sarah (Moore) Nolan of Caledonia. He was a hardworking family man who worked many years for Devco retiring in 1989 after many years of service. He was extremely independent and spoke his mind, but also had a great sense of humor and quick wit that put a smile on many faces. Leo was a real sports enthusiast, especially bowling and attained many trophies and awards. He loved to attend all community sporting events where he made lasting friendships. Leo and family spent some years in California and it became his home away from home. In his later years, he was happy spending time with is great grandchildren whom he loved dearly. To sum up Leo’s personality, we will quote his sister Ernie: “Leo was always a gentleman”. We will miss you Da and you will never be forgotten.
