Stamper, Patricia Ann - published February 15, 2009 Keith Douglas Allan, Truro Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, - Keith Douglas Allan, 64, Truro, passed away Feb. 4, 2009, at home. Born in Montreal, Que., he was the son of the late Douglas and Lillian Allan. He is survived by his daughter, Carrie (Shaun) Burke; and will always be remembered and loved by his grandson, Jordan; brother, Wayne; and stepmother Irene. Keith's wife Marilyn passed away in 2007 and it was her family that he considered his 'heart' family. Keith and Marilyn are survived by her brothers, Gary (Louella) MacLeod, Ian (Helen) MacLeod and her sister, Colleen (Donnie) Sives; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. Carrie and Shaun would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of EMS Truro who tried so hard on the fourth to save Keith. A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, with Rev. Kevin Richardson officiating. His final resting place will be in Sydney, N.S. at a later date beside his wife Marilyn. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Arthritis Society of Nova Scotia are gratefully appreciated. ___________________________________________________________________________ Mrs. Margaret (Greta) Fraser, Sydney Mines March 2, 1920 - Longtime resident of Sydney Mines, Greta Fraser passed away peacefully at the Northside Community Guest Home on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and a friend. Born on March 2, 1920, she was the daughter of the late D.W. (Bill) and Margaret (MacKenzie) MacDonald. Greta was a member of Carman United Church, Sydney Mines. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret (Peggy) Moffat (Ian); and her two grandsons, Stuart and Tavis. Greta was the last surviving member of her family; she was predeceased by her brothers, Fraser and Ralph, and also by her husbands, Rod MacArthur and Thomas R. Fraser. At Greta's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be held in the spring. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. Donations may be made to a charity of ones choice in Greta's memory. A special thank you to Dr. M. McKeough for his care, and to the exceptional staff of the Northside Community Guest Home for their kindness and compassion. Heartfelt thanks to Greta's former neighbours and many friends for their tremendous support and encouragement. when it was needed most. ___________________________________________________________________________ Lois Halliday, Margate February 13, 2009 - Peacefully at MacEwen Mews Seniors Residence, Margate P.E.I., Feb. 13, 2009, of Lois Ann Halliday aged 97 years, formerly of Summerside, P.E.I., Stellarton, New Glasgow and Sydney, N.S. Predeceased by her parents, Woodville and Katherine (Keswick) Ingram, her first husband, Earle D. Sutherland, an infant daughter, Erdine, her second husband, Donald W.Halliday, her sisters, Elizabeth Noonan, Jessie Macdonald and Janet McDonald. Left with many loving memories are her daughter, Katherine Schaefer (Dr. Paul), Summerside, P.E.I.; sons, Wilbert Sutherland (Jody), Truro, N.S., Rev. David Sutherland (Irma), St. John's N.L.; stepson, Fraser Halliday (Ethel), Calgary, Alta.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Born in Glace Bay he was the son of the late John and Helen MacAskill. He was employed with Devco, Toast Master and LoBack Literacy. Bruce was an avid reader and loved music. He was a member of St. Mary's Anglican Church, Glace Bay. Bruce is survived by brothers, Bill, Edmonton, and Norman, Sydney. Bruce was predeceased by his brothers, John, Dan, George and Edward. Visitation for the late Bruce MacAskill will be held at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, 849-7520, Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Glace Bay, with Rev. Online condolences may be emailed to patten@seaside.ns.ca. ___________________________________________________________________________ Mr. Bernard MacDonald, Sydney Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, February 14, 1911 Bernard Daniel MacDonald - Bernard Daniel MacDonald of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, formerly of Bentinck Street, Sydney, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, just a few hours shy of his 98th birthday. Born in Sydney, Feb. 14, 1911, he was the son of the late John C. and Mary (MacLeod) MacDonald. Bernie's father was from Arisaig, Antigonish County, while his mother was from French Road, Mira. Bernie spent most of his working life at the steel plant, retiring in 1972. He travelled the world both alone with his sister Mary Ellen. He loved world affairs, politics, the Scottish culture, travel, all things scientific, gardening, reading, singing and talking about his days at the steel plant, although not necessarily in that order. He was a devoted member of St. Anthony Daniel parish, Sydney. Bernie was unmarrried and was the last surviving member of his family. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Virginia MacDonald, Sydney; his five nephews, Robert MacDonald (Heather), Bedford, N.S., Ian MacDonald (Aggie), Sydney, Greg MacDonald (Sharon), Sydney, Michael MacDonald, Dartmouth, and Gerald MacDonald (Melissa), Sydney; two grandnieces, Heather and Sheilah MacDonald; and four grandnephews, Stephen and Justin MacDonald, Ian MacDonald and Jacob MacDonald. Bernie was predeceased by his sister, Mary Ellen in 1994, and his brother, Robert 'Bob' in 2000. There will be no visitation for the late Bernard MacDonald. A Mass of Resurrection and a celebration of Bernie's life will take place Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Daniel Church, Alexandra Street, Sydney, with Fr. Donald MacGillivary officiating. Duncan was born in Dominion to the late Charles and Mary Ann (Cameron) MacDonald. Duncan was a proud veteran having served overseas during the Second World War with the Cape Breton Highlanders. He spent most of his working life in Ontario as a production line supervisor before retiring to Cape Breton. A member of St. Anne's parish, Duncan was an altar server, Eucharistic minister and a Third Order Carmelite. He was a proud member and very dedicated to the work of Alcoholics Anonymous for more than 50 years. Duncan is survived by his longtime companion and friend 'Little Jenny' MacNeil, New Waterford; several stepchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Lillian (nee Butts), brothers, Charles 'Dink', James and Angus, sisters, Isabele 'Belle' and Jenny. Visitation will be held this evening (Monday) 7-9 p.m. in Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Members of the Carmelite Community will meet at 6:30 p.m. for the Rosary. The funeral mass to celebrate Duncan's life will be held at St. Anne's Church Tuesday, 10 a.m., Rev. Leo Boone officiating. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Hazel (MacMullin) Donnelly. Employed at the Smart Shop for 47 years until her retirement. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Branch 126, Westmount. She is survived by her brother, Barry; and her companion of many years, Frank Phillipo. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Natallie Marie in infancy, and brothers, Robert and Neil. In honour of Patricia's wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Holy Rosary Church, Westmount, with Fr. Dan MacInnis officiating. Reception to follow at Westmount Legion.
