Scott , Doreen - published February 11, 2009 Mrs. Sarah Ann MacIntyre Born in Scotch Lake, Nova Scotia, Canada, June 26, 1916 - Mrs. Sarah Ann MacIntyre, beloved daughter, wife, and mother, passed away peacefully at her home on Feb. 10, 2009. Born in Scotch Lake on June 26, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Ambrose and Margaret (MacInnis) (MacNeil) MacDonald. She was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception parish, Sydney Mines. Sarah Ann moved to Sydney Mines with her mother and brothers at an early age. She attended St. John's and Notre Dame schools. Sarah worked at house work until her marriage. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Frances; and her son, Joseph Patrick. She is also survived by her stepbrother, Archibald MacNeil. Sarah was predeceased by her husband Neil Joseph MacIntyre, a brother, Joseph M. MacDonald, and a stepbrother, Joseph A. MacNeil. Visitation for Sarah Ann MacIntyre will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, today (Thursday, Feb. 12) from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place Friday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. J.J. MacDonald officiating. The burial will be held in the spring. Born in Sydney, he was the son of Alexander Marshall of Chapel Island and the late Mary Anastasia (Gloade) Marshall. He was a former employee of the Potlotek Expedition and a seasonal worker for the Chapel Island Band Council. He was trained as a mentor in the past through the Mikmaq Youth Mentoring Program for the youth of Chapel Island. Gerry was very strong in faith and a member of a Charismatic Movement of Cape Breton. Gerry was an individual who loved trying out new things. He did everything from playing the guitar, he weight-lifted, enjoyed playing pool, video games, enjoyed the computer, 4 wheeling, skateboarding, skiing, swimming, chasing concerts, travelling and being with friends and helping out. He lived a full life and he will be forever remembered for his funny personality. He was a gentle giant who loved music, especially alternative rock. He had a unique style about him; always introducing new styles of clothing, hairstyles and hobbies. He was a loyal, generous and trusting to all who knew him. He shared a special closeness with his brothers and sisters that cannot be described. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Katie (MacLean) MacDonald. Margaret trained at the Grace Maternity in Halifax and worked as an obstetrical nurse at the Sydney City Hospital for a short time in the 1950s. Wife of Albert 'Abbey', mother of Kathy Manning, Charlottetown; sister of Catherine Lewis (Ray); brother of Norman, both of Sydney and grandmother of Kyle and Alanna Manning, Charlottetown. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Bert; sister, Annie Mae Carroll; brothers, John, Neil, Donnie and son-in-law, Bobby Manning. In memory of Hazel, a donation to the Salvation Army would be welcomed. ___________________________________________________________________________ Fred Peddle, Glace Bay Born in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada, - We regret to announce the passing of Fred Peddle, 92, of 22 Victoria Dr., Sydney Mines, on February 10, 2009, at the Taigh Na Mara Guest Home in Glace Bay, where he had been a resident for the last year and nine months. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Arthur and Mary (Finney) Peddle. He was a member of St. Pius X parish, Sydney Mines. Fred was a coal miner for 40 years working in both the Princess and Prince Mines. He also served with the Merchant Seamen in Second World War. He loved to go camping and fishing, and enjoyed going for weekend drives with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, the former Ruby Halliday; his daughter, Camillus (Wayne) Cavanaugh; grandson, Rick Cavanaugh, all of Sydney Mines; his sister, Mrs. Winnie Hubbell, Sarnia, Ont., and his brother, Cecil Finney, Georges River. Besides his parents, Fred was predeceased by four brothers, Arthur, Thomas, James and John and his adoptive parents, James and Sarah Finney. There will be no visitation. Todd was born at the Glace Bay Hospital on November 9, 1974 as Walter Todd Porter. At the time of his passing, Todd was residing in Glace Bay. Todd was truly loved and will be sadly missed by his mother, Sandra Howie, Edmonton, his brother, Clinton Porter (Tania) and his nephew, Brandon, Glace Bay. Todd will also be sadly missed by his other siblings, Raymond Cormier (Lizanne), Shereen and Stephanie King, Edmonton, also his nieces, Sydney and Charllie Cormier and nephew, Riley Cormier. Todd also leaves behind his pride and joy, son, Brayden, the love of his life. Todd was a very loving son, father, brother and uncle. For the best part of his life, Todd grew up on Lake Road, Glace Bay. Later he resided in Sydney, N.S., Grande Cache and Edmonton, Alberta. Todd has many friends in Nova Scotia and Alberta. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating.
