Winterbottom, Edward - published February 25, 2009 ___________________________________________________________________________ Mary Currie, Dominion Born in Reserve Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada, - It is with great sadness, that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Mary Carmella Currie. Mom passed away at her home in Dominion, surrounded by her family and friends on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009. Born in Reserve Mines, Carmella was the daughter of the late George and Grace (Robinson) MacDonald. Carmella was a loving mother and a wonderful friend. She was always there to lend an ear or a helping hand to anyone in need. Carmella was a member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport. She is survived by sons, George, Danny and John (Debbie); daughters, Amelia and Grace Somerton (Billy Jardine) and six grandchildren, Lawrence, Jason, Jeremy, Joshua, Victoria and Coady. Also surviving are siblings, Jerry MacDonald (Shirley), John R. MacDonald (Karen) and a sister Christella MacDonald. Carmella was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence and two sisters, Amelia MacDonald and Cle Martell. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Rev. Gerald Campbell will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, followed by a reception in the parish hall. Interment at a later date in the parish cemetery. Condolences to the family can be expressed at www.vjmcgillivray.ca "We love You will live in Our hearts forever." ___________________________________________________________________________ Gregory Fraser, Marion Bridge Born in Meat Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada, - It is with deep regret that we, the family announce the passing of Greg Fraser, which occurred on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, from a brief illness. Born in Meat Cove, he was the son of the late Angus and Ronnie (MacLellan) Fraser. Greg was employed with several companies in Hamilton, Ont., until his moving home to Cape Breton to retire. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, snowmobiling and tinkering around the house. He had a great love for animals. Greg is survived by his former wife, Evelyn Hill; their children, Cathy Fraser, Gregory John Fraser, both of Hamilton; and three grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Joy Fraser (David Williams), Mulgrave, Sharon (Cyril) Fraser, Bay St. Lawrence, Donna (Wild Allan) Bonnar, Meat Cove, Chandra Lee, Boston; his brothers, Johnny (Ann Marie), Hamilton, George (Donna), Brian, both of South Bar, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and his beloved companion, Rex. As per Greg's request there will be no visitation. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Born in Whycocomagh, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Dan and Sara Mae (Austin) MacDonald. She was a graduate nurse of Glace Bay General Hospital, School of Nursing 1942. She was employed at Neils Harbour, Cape Breton; Cornwallis Navy Hospital and Camp Hill Hospital, Halifax before serving in R.C.A.F., where she was stationed in Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Sask. and Trenton, Ont. Her career took her overseas to Germany for a number of years, returning to work in British Colombia for Health and Welfare as an Airport Health Nurse. She also nursed at the Cocaletza Native Hospital in Northern B.C., before her retirement in 1977. She was a member of Stewart United Church, Whycocomagh; the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 123; Dr. Gordon MacLeod Chapter 37, Order of the Eastern Star and Bayville Senior Citizens Club. She was predeceased by bothers, Dr. Austin and Harvey; sisters, Jessie Rose Fownes, Annie Laura Johnson and Muriel Christine McLean. She is survived by sister-in-law and friend, Marie MacDonald, Baddeck and four generation of cousins, nieces and nephews, who loved her and will miss her kindness and caring ways. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 at 11 a.m. in Stewart United Church. The Order of the Eastern Star and the Whycocomagh Legion, Branch 123 will share in the service, Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating. Burial at a later date in Stewartdale Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. Donations in memory of Ferne may be made to charity of one's choice. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late William James and Sarah (Murphy) Sullivan. She was a member of St. Pius X parish, Sydney Mines. Mary is survived by her sons, Carl, Sydney Mines,Bill, Cornerbrook, Nfld. and her daughter, Brenda Taylor, Kingston, Ont. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christine, Chad, Crista, Sheri-Lyn, and Jon; several great-grandchildren and her special great-granddaughter, Carissa, who sat with her and cared for her; also a sister, Marg Wier in Ontario. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, Russell William Murphy in 1998 and brothers and sisters, Sarah, Catherine, Eugene (Hap), Owie, John, Susan, Bill, Jim and Nora. Mary's family would like to thank all those who helped out in any way during her illness. Visitation for Mary Murphy will be held in the J. M. He returned to Sydney from Boston, Mass., after retiring in 1980. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine; son, Johnny; sister, Marie W. Wilson; and brother, John 'Buster' Winterbottom. He is survived by his daughter, Marge Rhodes; four granddaughters, Anne Winterbottom, Eileen Winterbottom Green, Kathleen Winterbottom Lane, Catherine (Kate) Rhodes; grandson, Christopher Rhodes and an extended loving family. A visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 at St. Barra Catholic Church with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating. Interment to follow at St. Barra Cemetery, Christmas Island.
