Olive was born in Sydney, daughter of the late Alice (Beaton) and John Alexander MacLean. She was retired from the Attorney General's Department, having been employed as secretary in the Provincial Judge's office, Sydney. Olive was a member of St. Andrew's United Church, former choir member and occasional supply church organist and was a member of Beinn Bhreagh Chapter IODE and the MacLean Clan Association. In former years, she was involved in community affairs and musical activities Survived by two sons, Glenn Arnold (Anne), Ottawa and G. Wayne (Carol), Ben Eoin; grandchildren, Joanne, Donna, Meaghan and Michael. Predeceased by her husband, Gordon L.; brother, Alistar and sister, Emma MacDonald. There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday 11 a.m., with Rev. Thomas Whent officiating. Interment will take place in Upper Leitches Cemetery at a later date. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Jemimah (MacKeigan) Lynk and step-father, Jim Boyd. She was a member of St. Pius X parish, Sydney Mines. Lee is survived by her three sons, Charles (Theresa), Jim (Diane) and David (Debbie), all of Sydney Mines. She will be sadly missed by her granddaughters, "her girls", Charlene, Samantha, Rachel (Andrew), Katie, Rebecca, Terra (Brian), and by her great-grandson, Regan. She is also survived by her sisters, Violet (Frank) Donato, Sydney Mines, Emma Krvzanowski, St. Catharines, Ont.; a brother, Danny Boyd, London, Ont. and a number of special nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Lee was predeceased by her husband Walter, sister Henrietta, and brothers Bob, Billy, Colin, Fred, Jake, and Jim. There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place under the care and direction of J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines. A funeral mass to celebrate Lee's life will be held on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Hughie MacNeil officiating. Online condolences may be sent to the family at jmjobesfuneralhome@ns.aliantzinc.ca. ___________________________________________________________________________ Margaret MacMullin, Calgary Born in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada, November 29, 1918 - "Come day, go a day" The children of Margaret Isabel MacMullin, widow of the late Arthur Pius, (Boisdale) MacMullin (d. 1980), have surrendered to God a devoted servant. Born November 29, 1918, in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Margaret was the eldest daughter of Daniel Michael and Josephine Helen (Ranson) McPhee. She completed the circle of life on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009 at her second home in Calgary, Alta., surrounded by her family. A woman devoted to God and family, Margaret's continuous prayers for all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave them the assurance of love and protection. Margaret had 19 pregnancies and delivered 22 children, two of whom died in early infancy and three of whom were stillborn. She is survived by 17 children, 10 daughters and seven sons, Elizabeth (Raymond) Flemming, Anne Marie (late Gordon) Mont, Patricia (Waldemar) Gert, Mary (Francis) Chiasson, Agnes (Lorne) Fredericksen, Elaine (Stanton) Morris, Geralyn (Joe Lecce), Katherine (Daniel) Moore, all of Calgary, Rose (late Roderick) MacLellan, New Waterford and Andrea (Donald) MacEachreon, Moncton; Don (Shirley), Cold Lake, Alta., Vincent (Karen), San Diego, California, John (Sylvia), Dutch Brook and Halifax, Gerard (Cindy), Walnut Creek, California, Michael (Nicole), Montreal, Peter, Sydney and Kenneth (Claire), Sugar Land, Texas. Margaret also leaves 38 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren; her sisters, June (late Wilfred) Attwood, New Waterford and Mary (Henry) Burns, Oromocto, N.B. and brother, Bernard, New Waterford. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by siblings, Veronica (late Vincent) Whiting, Donald "Buddie" (Clara Irvine, a great friend of young womanhood), Wilfred, Thelma (late Judson) Boutilier, James "Jim", Theresa and Robert Petrie and Dolena Burns. Her extended family includes many nieces and nephews and their children, brother-in-law, Jim Burns and sisters-in-law, Regina (Wilfred) McPhee and Florrie (widow of Jim McPhee). Throughout the years, Margaret also mothered many neighbourhood children. Hundreds enjoyed her homemade bread, and there was always enough food for anyone whenever they visited. She especially loved being in her home in New Waterford and the large family gatherings there. We invite all who knew and loved her and her children to join with us in a final tribute to this very special woman. At her specific request, she will be waked at her home at 3389 Wilson Ave., New Waterford on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 after 2 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at The Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael's Church, River Ryan on Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery at a later date. Born in Ainsworth, B.C. he was a son of the late James and Annie (Harnon) Murray. Robert had been employed with the Sydney Steel Corporation as a crane operator, retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney. Papa was a quiet and gentle man who enjoyed spending time with family and his faithful companion "Ally". He is survived by his two sons, David (Patsy), North Sydney, with whom he resided, Alan, St. Catharines, Ont.; two daughters, Ruth (David) Grant, Pt. Born in Sydney, he was the son of Mrs. Mary Bridget (Nicholas) Paul of Eskasoni and the late Herman Paul. He was a member of Holy Family parish, Eskasoni. Gilbert was an avid sports fan who admired his teams, the New York Islanders and the Green Bay Packers. He was an excellent pool player and enjoyed the outdoors especially fishing. Gilbert worked for a number of years as a carpenter's helper. He is survived by four daughters, Carolyn Jean, Montreal; Mallory and Margaret, both of New Brunswick, Shaylene of Whycocomagh; five sons, Carlyle, Sydney; Luke, Quebec; Ricco and Gilbert, both of New Brunswick; Peter, Eskasoni; 12 grandchildren; five sisters Rosie, Doreen, Mag, Shirley, Janet, all of Eskasoni; four brothers Paul, Herman ‘Harvey, John Roy, Louis "Hud", all of Eskasoni and by many nieces and nephews. Ben Prossin loving brother and brother-in-law of Dr. Albert and Andrea Prossin, Rita Aronson, Sylvia and Irving Brown, the late Molly and Donny Mallman, and Hy Aronson. As a youth, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Ben was much involved in Canadian Young Judea at the local, regional and national levels. Ben was the founding president of the Atlantic Jewish Council and served as program director at Camp Kadimah, as well as on the Executive of many Jewish organizations including the Zionist Federation and the United Israel Appeal. He served as executive of the Canadian Jewish Congress from 1987 to 1990 before undertaking his current position as executive director of Jewish National Fund in Toronto. Ben was extremely devoted to Israel and involved in many Jewish and non-Jewish community activities.
