Cape Breton Deaths January 26, 2009 Ronald M. Delaney 85, Sydney - Ronald M. Delaney of Upper Prince Street passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sydney he was the son of the late Martin and Josephine (Dawson) Delaney. Ron was employed at the Sydney Steel Plant for 44 years working in the wire and nail mill until its closure and then the blooming mill. He was a member of St. Theresa's parish, a member of the Sydney Steelworkers and Pensioners Club, Club 55, and the Ukulele Strummers. He was an avid bowler and dart player. He enjoyed entertaining with his melodious voice and his ear for all musical instruments. Ron is survived by his wife, Marie (Oakley-Slade); daughters, Jean (Brian) Brophy, Point Edward, and Cheryl (Carl) MacLeod, Middle River; five grandchildren and one great grandson. He is also survived by his stepchildren, daughters, Debbie (Michael) Whitty, Brenda (Allan) Donovan, both of Ingonish Harbour, Shirley (Bill) Puddicombe, Frenchvale; and sons, Tommy (Pixie) Slade, Leitches Creek, Kevin Slade, at home; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is survived by sisters, Mary Tobin, Westmount, Margie (Earl) Healey, Jean MacLeod, both of Sydney, Agnes (Marty) MacIntyre, East Bay; brothers, Martin (Ruth), Joe (Betty), Pat (Myrna), all of Sydney, Jim (Cecilia), Wiarton, Ontario; nephew, Gerry (Warna) Delaney, Sydney; and sister-in-law, Margaret Delaney. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Helen (Doubley), an infant son, Joseph, sister, Theresa Smith, and brother, Gerry. Visitation will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel , 755 George St., Sydney, Tuesday, Jan. 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with funeral mass to be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa's Church with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Born in Florence, C.B., she was the daughter of the late Wilson and Maria (Ross) Hood. Adeline and her husband Frank spent their working years in Halifax and later retired to Cape Breton to be close to family. Adeline moved to Baddeck after the passing of her husband and was residing at Alderwood Rest Home for the past number of years. Adeline will be fondly remembered by her family and friends for her baking, cooking and hospitality, her sense of humour and compassion for others will never be forgotten. Adeline loved to travel and was always ready at a moment's notice. Adeline was very involved in her grandchildren's lives and loved them with all her heart. Adeline is survived by her son, Roy (Carrie) and their family, Christopher (Tracey), Leigh Anne, Kimberley; daughter, Beverly (David) Dunlop and their family, Ashley, David, Brittany and Kirstan; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Zoe Sturmy. Adeline is also survived by her sisters, Mary Christiansen, Aerise MacMillan; her brother, Mullins Hood; and a number of nieces, nephews and special friends. Adeline was predeceased by her husband, Frank and her brothers, Bill, Joe, Bob and John. Visitation will take place Monday, Jan. 26 from 2-9 p.m. at MacAskill's Funeral Home, Baddeck. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Robert (Bobby) Boudreau and Catherine Boudreau Maroun, Sydney. Barbara was a homemaker and enjoyed playing darts, shuffleboard, was a member of the Seniors Citizens Club and the Ashby Legion Women's Auxiliary. At one time she also worked at Penny's Dry Cleaning in Sydney. Barbara is survived by her husband, Martin Greg Chapel; mother, Catherine Maroun; son, Danny (Mary) Campbell, Glace Bay; daughter, Darlene (Gerald 'Monk') Petrie, New Waterford; sister, Lorna (David), New Brunswick; grandchildren, Robert, Jeffery, Natasha, Amanda and Kristin; great-grandchildren ,Benjamin and Sophie. Born in Newfoundland, he was the son of the late James and Jenny O'Flaherty. Tim worked at the coke ovens Sydney Steel for 46 years until his retirement in 1982. He was a longtime alter server at St. Joseph's Church, Sydney. He is survived by his wife, Rita (Fewer) of 67 years; his three grandchildren, Tracey (Donald), Christine (Jason), Timothy (Jennifer); by two great-grandchildren, Chelsey Dawn and Deven; and daughter-in-law, Eunice. Tim is also survived by brother, Jim (Theresa), Ottawa; and stepbrothers, Tom (Lillian), Kingston, Ont., James, British Columbia, Martin Carroll (Betty), Sydney; and stepsister, Mary Flannigan, Sydney. Beside his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Dennis, brothers, Michael, Cecil and sister, Nellie. He will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews. At Tim's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place with burial to follow at a later date. Born in New Waterford, Laddie was the son of John And Catherine Micholsky of Poland. He was a member of St. Agnes Church. For many years Laddie was employed by White's Bakery, New Waterford, and Phalens Bakery, Glace Bay. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and was active in all sports, including boxing, hockey and basketball. He was a member of the New Waterford Strands Canadian Champions in 1947 and was inducted into both the Cape Breton and Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame. Surviving are many nephews, nieces and special nephew, Gary (Betty) Micholsky, New Waterford. Laddie was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Helen Brown, two sisters, Julia and Blanch, and five brothers, John, Steve, Sigmund 'Jiggy', Tony and Peter. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. A funeral mass officiated by Rev. Paul MacNeil will be held Thursday, Jan. 29 at 11 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael's Church, River Ryan. Following the mass, fellowship will take place at St. Agnes Parish Hall, New Waterford.
