Cape Breton Deaths January 22, 2009 Frances Clara Baker 89, Sydney - It is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce that mom passed away to be in the loving arms of the 'Love of her life' her husband and her heavenly father, on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney with her adoring family by her side. Frances was a lifetime member of St. Theresa parish CWL. She was strong in life and strong in dying. Her favourite pastime was preparing food for her family and friends. Frances will be sadly missed by her extended families on Columbia Street and Tillock Drive. You will always be remembered by Frances' children. Our mom was the most kind, loving, caring and generous person who devoted her entire life to raising her family. Everyone who knew mom, knew how special a person she was. Frances was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late John and Veronica (Planetta) Wludyka. Frances is survived by her seven daughters, Lorraine Beaton-Costigan, Sydney, Shirley (John) Assoun, Sydney, Elaine (George) Long, Sydney, Loretta Baker (John), Bedford, Roseann (Gary) Wells, Bedford, Darlene (Michael) Sullivan, Sydney, Janet Baker, Sydney; eight sons, Richard (Janet), Vancouver Islands, Raymond (Sharon), Lower Sackville, Edmund (Katie), Sydney, John (Judy), Sydney, Michael (Lynn), Lower Sackville, Kenny (Vonnie), Sydney, Gary (Shelley), Sydney, Henry (Donna), Sydney; as well as 29 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Frances was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Baker, sisters, Elizabeth MacKeigan and Veronica O'Brien, brother, Joseph Wludyka, and sons-in-law, Carl Beaton and Sam Costigan. In honour of Frances' wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral mass will take place 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 23 at St. Theresa's Church, Sydney, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. Family will welcome friends at St. Theresa parish centre following the mass. Interment to take place at a later date in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Sarah MacMullin. She was a member of St. Pius X parish, Sydney Mines. Mom was happiest when she had a house full of family in playing cards and sharing laughs and stories. She'll be remembered for her fabulous homemade bread and pies. Mom's kindness and generosity was far reaching and will be remembered by many. Christena is survived by her son, Michael (Debbie), Coldbrook; and daughters, Mary (Tom), Halifax, and Joanne (Barry), Newmarket, Ont. She will be sadly missed by her sister, Rodena Moore, Sydney Mines; her grandchildren, Alexandria, Iain and Kristyn and many nieces and nephews. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Archie and Helen (Walsh) Young. He was a member of Immaculate Conception parish, Sydney Mines. Wayne was employed for many years at the QEII in Halifax as a pharmacy technician. He leaves behind many friends and co-workers who will miss his humour and quick wit. He had an easy going nature and loved to joke and carry on with others. He loved golfing, curling and his dog, Colby. He will be forever missed by his family and friends. Wayne is survived by his brothers, Kevin (Veronica), Sydney Mines, Curtis (Sheila), Bras d'Or, and Brian (Wendy), Oromocto, N.B.; his sisters, Linda and Diane (Trevor), both of Sydney Mines, Susan (David) Buis, North Sydney, and Leanne (Danny Mansfield), Petawawa, Ont. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, who will always love and miss their "Uncle Wayne," Breanna, Brittany and Jacob Buis, Wayne Conway (Lindsey), Kayleigh and Damon Noseworthy, Cody, Bailey and Meghan Mansfield, Kaley Long, Kristen, Brody and Brayden and Chris. Pam's strong faith carried both her and her family through her short illness. Born in England on May 9, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Harold William and Daisy Elizabeth (Allen) Stubbert. She was a member and elder of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney. Pam will be greatly missed by her loving husband and best friend, James David Bailey; her son, David (Tracy) Charlesworth; and daughter, Susan (Leonard) Snow; as well as her stepchildren, Fred, Marg, Judy, Diana and Danny; grandchildren and step-grandchildren. Pam is also survived by her aunt, Margaret MacLennan; and cousins, Elma, Betty, Linda and Kathy. Pam was predeceased by her infant son, Peter, and her uncle, Russell Stubbert. Loretta was the daughter of the late John D. and Margaret (Moore) MacDonald. She was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay. Loretta is survived by her daughter, Carol (Bob) Landry, St. Albert, Alta.; sons, Eric (Gloria), Calgary, and Donald, Calgary; sister, Georgina MacDonald, Glace Bay. Loretta is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, Loretta was predeceased by her husband, Eldon, brothers, Tommy, Melvin, Donald, James, Robert and Murdock, sisters, Catherine, Wilena and Rachel.
