Nicholson John A. Nicholson, 87, of Amherst, New Hampshire, died Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester after a period of declining health. Mr. Nicholson was born July 23, 1921 in Port Hood, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was the son of James and Sarah (Basker) Nicholson. He was raised and educated in Canada, and lived most of his life in Niagara Falls, NY. He was employed for many years with Occidental Petroleum Company of Niagara Falls. After retirement, he and his wife relocated to Amherst in 1991. Mr. Nicholson volunteered his services with the "Day Away" program at St. John Neumann Church in South Merrimack and with "Meals on Wheels." He was a communicant of St. John Neumann Church. John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Aida (Pino) Nicholson, of Amherst; his sons, John J. Nicholson of Phoenixville, PA, and Marvin J. (Linda) Nicholson of Amherst; his grandchildren, Ryan and Kyle, Cara and Kailey Nicholson; one brother, Colin (Margaret) Nicholson of Niagara, Falls, Ontario, CA, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. A private service is planned. Donations may be made in his memory to Home, Health and Hospice Care, 22 Prospect Street, Nashua, NH 03060.
