(Peppie) - 75, 25 MacGuire Dr., Sydney, formerly of Hardwood Hill, Sydney, died November 6, 1993, in Sydney Community Health Centre. Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Frank and Lucy (Arlotta) Sollazzo. He was a member of St. Augustine's Parish, Sydney; Sydney Steelworker's Pensioners Club and Club 55's Rhythm Band. He also served in the Cape Breton Highlanders Reserves and was an avid bowler. He had been employed for 42 years in the coke ovens department of Sydney Steel Corporation, retiring shortly after being injured in the 1977 explosion. He is survived by his wife, the former Bernadette Dominique; two daughters, Shirley Pike, Sydney; Marie (Cookie) (Mrs. Ron Brace), Toronto; three sons, Pat, Jim, both of Sydney; Jerry, London; sister, Theresa (Mrs. Vernon Mosher), Musquodoboit Harbour; two brothers, Dominic, Sydney; Frank, Toronto; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Tony; stepmother, Mary; sister, Rose in infancy. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. tonight, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Augustine's Church, Rev. John Capstick officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Born in Dartmouth, he was a son of Gladys (Goldsworthy) Gates, Seaforth. He was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church and had been an elevator operator for a number of years. He was employed in construction work most of his life. Surviving are his wife, the former Rita Brophy; son, David, Shearwater; daughters, Rita (Mrs. Robert Dominique), Waterloo, Que.; Mary (Mrs. William Probert), Linda (Mrs. Joseph Penny), Timberlea; half-brothers, Stanley Goldsworthy, Malcolm Goldsworthy, Seaforth; half-sisters, Evelyn (Mrs. Gerald Poirier), Seaforth; Viola (Mrs. Raymond Lang), Lawrencetown; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Helen Kimber. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Rd., Halifax. Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late Joseph and Julia (Penny) Reid. He was a member of St. Pius X Parish where he served as a lector and was an active member of the Fire of Love Prayer Group. Following a career in sales and retail, Kirk worked for several years as a counsellor for Nova Scotia Drug Dependency and graduated from Holland College in 1997 as a professional Addiction Counsellor. He also worked in the community as an amateur magician. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Fudge); daughters, Lori (Denis Godcharles), Gatineau, Que.; Lisa (Johnny Fifoot), Halifax, and Dionne, Halifax; his son, Ted (Carol Ann), Arthur, Ontario. Also surviving is his half-brother, Joseph Dominique (Kay), South Bar, and his grandchildren, Steven, Madison and Katie. He was predeceased by brothers, Tine, Wallace and Austin, and sister, Eileen. Funeral today at 2 p.m. in St. Pius X Church, Rev. Tony MacDonald officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
