Cape Breton Deaths January 05, 2009 Monday George Arthur (Mossy) Morrison Sydney Mines Dec. 23, 1921 - Jan. 3, 2009 - With broken hearts and sadness, we the family of George Arthur Morrison, 15 Jacob St., announce his passing on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, in the Veteran's Wing of Harbour View Hospital, where he had resided for only a short time. Born in Sydney Mines, Art was the son of the late William and Cecilia Morrison. Daddy was a veteran of the Second World War. He started his service with the Royal Canadian Artillery, and finished with the Winnipeg Royal Rifles. He worked at Princess Colliery and then at the Victoria Junction Preparation Plant until his retirement. Daddy loved to go to card games, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and most of all his Sunday afternoon drives. In early years, Daddy played ball with the Sydney Mines Ramblers, and loved to bowl and go ice fishing. Art is survived by his daughter, Marie (Ronnie) Jessome, Florence; and his son, Raymond (Lois) Morrison, Sydney; grandchildren, Rhonna, Paula (Brian), Raylene and Timmy (Joanna) Jessome; four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Baylee, Faaron Jessome and Samuel Kahn. He is also survived by a sister, Shirley Elgie, Ontario; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Art was predeceased by his wife, Anne Rita Morrison, and sisters, Joan Archer and Dorothy Morrison. Daddy was a very kind and gentle man who touched the lives of many who knew him. He will be missed greatly. We would like to thank the nursing staff of 2 West, 5 East, and the renal dialysis unit at the Northside General Hospital, Dr. Andrew Wawer, and the staff at Harbour View Hospital for the excellent care they provided. Paul was the son of Cora Sheppard and the late Clarence MacChesney. Paul is survived by his wife, Jacqueline (Walters) MacChesney; one daughter, Shannon (Derek) Greenwell, Ottawa, Ont.; three sons, Jay Roach, Fort Nelson, B.C., Matthew (Jennifer) Roach, Slave Lake, Alta., and his pride and joy, Hayes, at home; six grandchildren, Morgan and Brooklyn Greenwell, Coxheath, N.S., Jessica Durie, Campbell River, B.C., Kyjah Roach, Victoriaville, Que., Aiden and Tristan Roach, Slave Lake, Alta. Paul is also survived by four sisters, Evelyn (Charlie) Livingstone, East Bay, Jeanette Collins, Ontario, Karen (Richard) Lewis, Coxheath, Sr. Mary Michael (Donna), Pennsylvania; three brothers, Michael (Marie) MacChesney, Stephen (Maureen) MacChesney, Whitby, Ont., and Gregory (Nancy) MacChesney, Vancouver, B.C. He is also survived by extended family, Kim (Sandy) Walters, Edmonton, Alta., Darrell (Anna) Walters, Sydney, Corrine (Gerard MacNeil) Cusack, Sydney, Blair (Carrie) Walters, East Bay; his father-in-law, Jackie Walters; mother-in-law, Veronica Walters; many nieces and nephews, especially his loving niece, Brandee Lynn Cusack, Sydney. Paul was a godfather to Morgan Greenwell and MacKenzie Wadden. He is also survived by lifelong friends, Mike Reel, Georgie Wadden and Brad Billett. Paul will be deeply missed by special family friend Clare Wadden and her children. Paul was predeceased by his brothers, Owen Sheppard in infancy and Shaun Sheppard, sister, Linda Bates and grandmother, Annie Bradbury. Paul was renowned for his huge personality and sense of humour. He was also an amazing cook and skilled carpenter. Paul loved to fish, travel and spend time at the beach. He coached his son's minor hockey team for several years. More than anything in his life, Paul loved to spend time with his family and friends with lots of food and laughs. Paul was loved by the Alzheimer's patients when he worked at MacGillivary Guest Home where he once was a PCW. He travelled to Alberta where he worked in the oil and gas industry. Paul has employed as the Atlantic Foreman for Summit Construction for the last number of years. At the time of his death he was working construction with his great friend, Brad. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, from 7-9 p.m. at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Until his short illness he was in good health and thankfully in his own home. Born in Whitney Pier, where he resided all his life, he was the son of the late Rod and Bessie (Cameron) MacIsaac. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He served in the Canadian Army from 1940 to 1945 and was an employee of the Dosco and later the Sysco Steel Plant blast furnace department for 42 years. Mickey was a member of Holy Redeemer parish. Mickey is survived by daughter, Maureen (Bill) MacEachern and their children, Michael, Graham and Ellen, all of Dartmouth; son, Vernon (Donna) and their children, Colleen (Steve) MacDougall, Colin and Madonna; and son Ross (Cathy) and their children, Rosanne and Stephen; son, Michael (Rita) and their children, Maureen (Brad) MacNeil and Renee (Allan) MacIsaac-MacDonald, all of Sydney. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Austin MacIsaac, Isaac MacDougall and Ethan MacDonald. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Tena (Small) MacIsaac, son, George and George's twin, Gregory (who died in infancy). He was also predeceased by sisters, Elizabeth (Jack) Thompson, Sarah, Florence and Cecilia MacIsaac and brothers, Angus, Danny (Frances), Alex and Duncan. Born on Scaterie Island, C.B., Dec. 26, 1933, Charles was the son of the late Charles and Theresa (Trimm) Wadden. Charles was a member of St. Leo's Church, Glace Bay. He was employed by the Cape Breton Development Corporation as a miner and worked in No. 20, No. 26 and Phalen colleries until his retirement. Charles also worked as a lobster and swordfish fisherman, which was more pleasure than work, as he dearly loved his time spent on the ocean in his boat. Known for his work ethic and family values he was always doing something for one of us. He is survived by two sons, Gary (Gina), Glace Bay, Greg, Kitchener, Ont.; and by one daughter, Joanie, Kitchener, Ont. Charles is also survived by his companion, Theresa Burns; four grandchildren, Sonya (Ed), Courtney, John Charles, Cory; as well as many nieces and nephews. Left to mourn Charles passing are two brothers, Allister and Lloyd, Glace Bay and two sisters, Mary and Yvonne in Main-a-Dieu. Charles was predeceased by his loving wife, Ursula Davis, six brothers, Mike, Cletus, Sylvester, Gerald, Stanley, James and three sisters, Margaret, Beatrice and Theresa. Visitation for Charles will be held Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, from 4-8 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Leo's Church, Glace Bay. Following the mass all are invited to join the family for a reception in the parish hall. Born in Reserve Mines, Diane was a daughter of the late Frank and Alice (McNeil) Currie. Besides her parents, Diane was predeceased by her father-in-law, Charlie Aucoin. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 37 years, Brian; and two sons, Brad (Susanne) and Kyle (Laurie); and her two cherished grandsons, Callum and Benjamin; as well as her mother-in law, Christine; by her loving sister, Marilyn (Joe) McMullin; and many nieces and nephews. Diane worked as a CNA at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, mostly in the obstetrics department - a job she dearly loved. She also worked for several years at the Seaview Manor nursing home. Diane loved nursing and brought her gifts of caring and compassion to her job. Diane cared for people and believed that everyone had the right to be treated with love and dignity. During her prolonged sickness she was fortunate to be treated with the same care, dedication and dignity by the many doctors and nurses that attended her. Diane loved reading, taking care of her family, and children, her own as well as others. She especially cherished her time with her grandchildren. She was an active member of St. Anne's parish, Glace Bay. Margie will be remembered for her love of sports, especially tennis which she nutured in Harbour Grace. Shirley was a member of the Greenwood United Church, Baddeck, and the Alexander Graham Bell Club. She enjoyed golf, cards, downhill skiing and she and Peter spent most of the winter months in Florida. Jean's sister, Shirley gave her the gift of life 10 years ago, by donating a kidney to her. At the time of her passing she was a resident of Alderwood Rest Home. Annie Jane was born in Glace Bay, N.S., to the late William and Mary (Warburton) MacLeod on Jan. 22, 1925. Annie Jane was the chosen child of the late John and Catherine Macneil, Christmas Island. Annie Jane married the love of her life, the late Kenneth J. MacDonald on Feb. 5, 1955, in Sydney. As a former resident of Sydney, Annie was employed in various positions including the Aspy Ferry supply boat that ran between Sydney and Dingwall in the early 1950s. Annie enjoyed gatherings of family, friends, good food and music. She was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, North River. Annie Jane is survived by son, Fred (Pearl), Newfoundland and his sons, David (Carla) and Dale; daughters, Dorothy (Lorne Keigan), Baddeck and their children, Jillian 'Coinneach' Ken and Kelsey, and Laura (Rick Shaw), Riverview, N.B. and their children, Jenna and Kaleigh. Also survived by one great-grandson, Nicholas. To meet his military obligation in Canada as a Canadian citizen, Michael fulfilled his military obligation by serving in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife, the former Delores M. Born in MacKay's Corner, Glace Bay, Anne was the daughter of the late John Thomas and Katherine Anne (Buchanan) Weatherby. Anne is survived by her sons, Gary (Janet), Marion Bridge, and Keith (Patrice), Upper Grand Mira; and her daughters, Sharon (Allan) and Ruth (Darrell), Glace Bay. A true source of pride and joy for 'Nanny' were her three grandsons, Matt and Garett MacVicar and Logan Cooke. Also surviving are sisters, Jessie MacDonald, Shirley (Aubrey MacKenzie), Glace Bay, Mildred (Alphonse) McNeil, Mary (Gerald) Munroe, California; sister-in-law, Audy Weatherby, Glace Bay. Campbell - Leo Campbell, 84, born in Sydney, N.S. passed away peacefully at the Aberdeen Hospital on Jan. 2, 2009. The son of William B. and Delphine (Michelle) Campbell. Leo was a member of St. Theresa's parish while living in Cape Breton. He resided in New Glasgow with his sister Rita Young for a number of years. He trained and raced standardbred horses for many years in both the United States and Canada. He is survived by his brother, Lawrence from Antigonish; and sister, Rita Young from New Glasgow.
