Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Bridget (McEachern) LeBlanc. Yvonne was a devoted mother and grandmother and a woman of great faith. She was a member of the 3rd Order Lay Carmelite Community of St. Elijah, CWL and Charismatic Renewal. Yvonne organized bus trips to St. Anne de Beaupre with Fr. Albert MacPherson and many trips to Our Lady of Grace Monastery. She worked at Sydney Steel and as a crossing guard for the Cape Breton School Board. Yvonne is survived by sons, Jason and Mark, New Waterford; granddaughter, the joy of her life, Ava Grace; siblings, Maureen Finlayson, Scotchtown, N.S., Ann Marie McDonald (Earl), Moncton, N.B., Karen Clements - Bedi (Amarjit), Edmonton, Alta., Joe LeBlanc (Karen), Windsor, Ont. and uncle John Angus McEachern, New Waterford; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 7, from 4-8 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Friday, July 8, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard's Parish Hall on Convent Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice. Lillian Clare MacMaster Born In: New Waterford Passed in: New Victoria Passed on: July 5th, 2016 It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Lillian Clare MacMaster, 70, of New Victoria, on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at home. Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Archie and Muriel (Baker) Kearney. In earlier years, Lillian was employed at the GI Plant in Sydney. She enjoyed playing cards, listening to country music and was known for her love of chocolate. Her greatest passion, however, was spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. Surviving are daughter, Lorraine MacMaster, New Victoria; sons, Robert (Michelle) MacMaster, New Waterford, Alexander (Darla) MacMaster, Windsor, Ont., Kevin (Lynn) MacMaster, Sydney; sisters, Judy McNeil, Ontario, Loretta McAulay, Donna (Kevin) Forward, both of New Waterford; grandchildren, Ashley, Robert, Gregory, Heather, Zachary, Jordon, Stephanie, Aiden, and Kendall; great-grandchild, Talia; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Lillian was predeceased by her husband, Archibald 'Red Archie' MacMaster; son, Gerald 'Hornet' MacMaster and sister, Ellen Kearney. There will be no visitation of funeral service. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Margaret MacDonald Born In: Sydney Born: April 24th, 1916 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: July 4th, 2016 It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Margaret MacDonald, formerly of 278 Cabot St., announce her passing on Monday, July 4, 2016, at the Cove Guest Home in Sydney. She was 100 years old. Margaret was born in Sydney on April 24, 1916, to the late Joseph and Agnes (MacDougall) MacMullin. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. As a young woman, she worked at the Co-op Grocery Store on Prince Street. She belonged to the St. Rita Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Margaret enjoyed all kinds of music (especially Scottish music), dancing, skating and bowling. The happiest day of her life was her wedding day on Aug. 8, 1944, when she married Derrick MacDonald, the love of her life. Together they raised eight children and they always supported and encouraged them in music, singing, hockey, skating, basketball and baseball. Both of our parents always maintained a large rink in the backyard during the winter months. Margaret is survived by her children, Shauna Doolan, Anslem (Kay), Stan (Stephanie), Terrence (Sharon) and Margaret Theresa MacDonald. She is survived by her grandchildren, whom she adored, Melanie (Lloyd), Marc (Jolene), Derek (Carla), James, Sarah (Roddy), Chris (Lisa), Angela (Brandon), Laurie Weir, Jeffrey (Brianne) and Stephanie MacIntyre. Margaret is also survived by 20 beautiful great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind 13 nephews and nieces; one sister, Mary; one sister-in-law, Mary McMullin; and one brother-in-law, Stan MacDonald. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Derrick, in 1977; her daughter, Corinne, and two children in infancy, Pauline and Lawrence; one son-in-law, Edward Doolan; four brothers, Lawrence, Jocus, Benny and Hugh; six nephews; and two sisters-in-law. Visitation for Margaret MacDonald will be on Thursday, July 7, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Helen Theresa MacKenzie Born In: Glace Bay Passed on: July 2nd, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, aunt, grandma, and friend, Helen MacKenzie, on Saturday, July 2, 2016. She was 78. Born in Glace Bay, Helen was the daughter of the late Katherine and John Ptasztiewicz, both of Poland. After graduating from St. Anne's High School, Helen attended Normal College in Truro. She met Lloyd when he began teaching at St. John's School, where she was teaching. Helen loved sewing and made beautiful quilts. She sang with the St. John's choir and her solos were Ave Maria and Mary, Queen of the May. She loved her nights out at the casino and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband Lloyd of 52 years; sons, Shane (Cathy), Sydney, N.S.; Darren (Mary), Hanwell, N.B.; her beloved grandchildren, whom she adored, Thomas, Andrew, Michael and granddaughter, Avery; her loving sister, Joann Andrecyk; her nephews, John (Arlene) Andrecyk, Francis (Donna) Andrecyk; nieces, Theresa and Kathy and her sister-in-law, Sheila MacKenzie. Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her brothers, Frankie and Bernie; her nieces, Veronica (Andrecyk) Snow, Colleen (Andrecyk) Dowell and brother-in-law, Lee MacKenzie. Visitation will be held at Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay on Thursday, July 7th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 8th at 10 a.m. at St. Anne's Church, Main Street, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating, followed by a reception in the church foyer. Donations, in Helen's memory, may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, in lieu of flowers. Charles Alexander Gouthro Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: July 4th, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Gouthro, age 77. Charles passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 4th, 2016, at the QEII Hospital, Halifax. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Charles Frederick and Margaret Aquinas ‘Quinie’ (Currie) Gouthro, and was a former member of St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay. In his earlier years, Charles was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces and lived for several years in Ontario. He returned to Glace Bay and worked for Devco; working as a miner and later as a welder, retiring from the central shop. Charles had a great sense of humour, was a very good natured person and enjoyed telling yarns of his younger years. Charles will be sadly missed by his wife, June (MacDonald); stepsons, Ronald, Wayne and Michael Campbell; sister, Rosemary, Glace Bay; brother, David (Melody), Thorold, Ont. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Alfred, Robert, Deborah and special niece, Lisa Gouthro, Thorold, Ont. Charles will also be sadly missed by his best friend, Calder MacDonald and his great neighbor, Clinton MacLeod. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by a half-brother, Alban ‘Allie’. In honouring his wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A graveside service will be held at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glace Bay, at a later date. Memorial donations in Charles’ memory may be made to the St. Anthony’s Cemetery Fund.
