Born in Sydney Mines on Aug. 30, 1967, he was the son of Jody Hawkins and the late Joan (Pearo) Hawkins. He was formerly of Florence, and had been living in Toronto for over 20 years. He leaves behind his sons, Devon and Derek, both of Ontario; his father, Jody; brothers and sisters, Mary (Wayne) Pero, Joe (Barb), Susan Young, Jakie (Karen), Ricky (Marilyn), Joanne (Brad) Rahey, Kenny (Allan) and John. Also left to mourn are numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides his mother Joan, he was predeceased by a sister, Valerie; brothers, John Blair and Brian David in infancy; brother-in-law, Raymond Young; grandparents, John and Mary Pearo and John and Mary Hawkins. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 8, 2016, at 11 a.m., in Carman United Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. Diane Louise Hill Born In: Glace Bay Born: November 13th, 1946 Passed on: July 4th, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend, Diane Louise (Deane) Hill, on Monday July 4, 2016, with her son by her side. Born in Glace Bay on Nov.13, 1946, Diane was the daughter of the late Douglas Deane and surviving mother Viola (Allison) Deane. Diane can easily be described as a caring, kind hearted, honest woman who always found the good in people and who would always be there to listen to anyone who needed to talk. She enjoyed a good book, crossword puzzles, walking or just spending time with her mother, son or grandchildren. Diane is survived by her loving mother, Viola (Allison) Deane; her son, Ron Hill; her grandchildren, Faith, Ron, Noah; her sisters, Linda (Tom) McMullin, Trenton, Ont., Sheila (Lenny) Lynk, Glace Bay; brother, Robert (Donna) Burchell, Kingston, N.S.; sisters-In-law, Juanita ‘Wannie’ Deane, Glace Bay and Deanna Deane, Port Hawksbury,; her close friend, Kenny Brinston, as well as nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Douglas Deane, Glace Bay; brothers, Dougie Deane, Glace Bay and Donnie Deane, Port Hawksbury. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J.McGillivary Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. There will be no visitation or service. John 'Jack' Augustus Polegato Born In: Sydney Passed in: Sydney Passed on: July 4th, 2016 It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of John ‘Jack’ Polegato, on July 4, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Redensio Polegato, and Theresa (MacCormick) Polegato. Jack loved his family dearly, especially his dog Goomer. He always took great pride in his children’s accomplishments. He was most content outdoors, puttin’ around on his lawn tractor, as well as camping and campfires. Jack always looked forward to the fishing derbies and good times with his close childhood friends, Roddie Hanson and Gerard Leonard. He always had a wonderful sense of humour and a joke or two to share. Jack's career was spent working for the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure. Jack is survived by his mother, Theresa Polegato; wife, Nancy (Moore); son, Bradley (Danielle Morrison) and daughter, Angela Polegato. He is also survived by his sister, Mary (Michael) MacInnis, Prime Brook, as well as many nieces, nephews, good friends and co-workers. Ian Charles Born In: Toronto, Ontario, Canada Born: October 7th, 1965 Passed in: Napanee, Ontario, Canada Passed on: July 1st, 2016 Charles, Ian Robert, age 51, passed away suddenly on July 1 while vacationing at his land in Ontario. Born in Toronto he was the son of Bob Charles (Celeste Fraser) of Lower Sackville N.S., and Hazel (Don MacDonald) of Whitby, Ont. He is survived by his loving wife, Paula Fraser, formerly from Sydney Mines N.S., and daughter, Jaclyn; sisters, Susan (Fred Broad) and Sharon of Ontario; and brother, Eli (Kim Kerr) of Lower Sackville. Nephew, Trevor Broad, and niece, Hope Charles. Also survived by his mother and father-in-law, Candace and Ozzie Boudreau of Bras d’Or, N.S. Ian spent several years involved with the Green Party, his title being Official Agent of the Green Party of Nova Scotia. He loved nothing better than to extol the benefits of a green way of living. Ian had a great joy of living. He loved to golf with friends. One of his joys in life was cooking, a skill he passed on to his daughter, Jaclyn. It was your luck if you got that call from Ian, saying "come over, I am cooking.” Ian had a wealth of knowledge, he was your man to go to for that trivia question. In celebration of his life a gathering of family and friends will take place Sunday, July 10, at the home of his father at 149 Cavalier Dr., Sackville.
