It is with broken hearts that we share the loss of Myrtle Anne Oldford on June 26th, 2016, in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. Born in Cheticamp, she was a daughter of the late Hector Daniel and Hilda Christena Moore. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She found true happiness when she married her soulmate, Woody, in 1964. Her pride and joy was always her daughters and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, bingo, golfing, and watching her grandchildren play hockey over the years. In the golfing game, she was known to her friends as "Fairway Myrtle" with her consistent down the middle shots! She enjoyed telling Woody that he couldn't chip or putt! Myrtle loved entertaining, was a social butterfly, and always full of life. She loved the simple things in life like a drive in the park to see the ducks, watching the hummingbirds and cheering on Brad Gushue from Newfoundland in his curling matches. Myrtle Anne's chosen teaching career began in 1960 and brought her to many schools throughout Nova Scotia. She was known to her college classmates and colleagues as a person with "a sweet personality, full of rascality". Her love of teaching was demonstrated when she was the recipient of the Provincial Nova Scotia Teacher Award for building her students' self-esteem. Her students were her top priority on a daily basis and their love for Myrtle was often returned, years later, with an embracing warm hug. She is survived by her husband Woodrow "Woody" Oldford; daughters Gail (Robert Chiasson) Oldford, Wendy (Paul) Gallant, Alyson (John) Gauthier and Roberta (Derek Landry) Oldford; brothers Gary (Rosemary) Moore and Kenneth Moore; sister Audrey (Jackie Ingraham) McManus; grandchildren Shandel, Woodrow "Woody", Donya, Shalon, MacKenzie, Krishna, Timothy, Hunter, Brooklyn, Devin and Malcolm; and great-grandchildren Xander, Jaxson, Liberty, Isla and Londyn. She was predeceased by daughter Wanda Oldford-MacLellan; and son-in-law Shannon MacLellan; brother Kenneth Moore. The body rested at Cheticamp Funeral Home. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 29th in St. Andrew's United Church, Pleasant Bay, with Rev. Blake Caldwell officiating. Burial in Pleasant Bay Cemetery. Donations may be made to St. Andrew's United Church Cemetery Fund. Condolences may be sent to cheticampfuneral@ns.aliantzinc.ca <mailto:cheticampfuneral@ns.aliantzinc.ca>.
