He was surrounded and cared for by family and girlfriend Patsy at the home of his sister and brother-in-law Anita Marie and Art Davis. Born June 30, 1963 Michael was the son of Anne( Feit) Deruelle and the late Leo Deruelle. He grew up inScotchtown moving to New Waterford later in life. He is survived by two daughters, Michelle (Jared) Deruelle, St. John, NB., Melissa Deruelle, New Waterford, two sons Michael Jr. and Mitchael, Scotchtown and beautiful granddaughter Zoey, New Waterford; sisters Leona (Jimmy) Henry, Scotchtown, Cathy (Rob) Hailes, Lower Sackville, Pauline Morrison, New Victoria, Darlene (Chris) Cormack, Quispansis, NB., and Anita Marie (Art) Davis, Coxheath; brothers Leo (Margaret) Deruelle, Scotchtown and Stephen (Joanne) Deruelle, New Waterford; 13 nieces and nephews and 11 great neices and nephews, (one on the way). He is also survived by girlfriend Patsy Campbell and her son Stephen, daughters Abbie and Amber and Marjorie Deruelle, mother of his four children. Besides his father, Michael was predeceased by a brother in infancy, paternal grandparents Leo and Bella Deruelle, maternal grandparents Mathias and Minnie Feit. While growing up, Michael loved spending time with his family at our summer cottage in upper Grand Mira and going on many camping trips which led to his love of the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and camper. Cremation has taken place and a funeral mass will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Leonard's, Mt. Carmel Ave., with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating, followed by a luncheon in the parish hall, Convent Street all are welcome. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Palliative Care. KENNETH GOOGOO Born In: SYDNEY, Nova Scotia Passed in: ESKASONI, Nova Scotia Passed on: July 25th, 2016 Kenneth Anthony Googoo age 59 of 140 Spencer’s Lane, Eskasoni, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 25, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving wife, family and friends. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Roddie and Matilda (Dennis) Googoo. He was a member of Holy Family parish, Eskasoni. Kenny was a volunteer fire fighter for many years and worked most of his life as a plumber and later as a security guard/watchman for the Eskasoni schools and fisheries. He liked to play bingo and cards and being outdoors fishing, hunting and camping with his friends. He also loved to coach lob ball for Team Bloge Busters. He is survived by his wife, the former Frances (MacDonald); daughters, Annie (Alphonse) Young, Gina, Alexina all of Eskasoni; Lisa (Dave) Patton, Halifax; six grandchildren, Haylee, Lynzie, Londyn, Katelynn, Kanda, Josh; great- grandson, Keani; sisters, Clara (Anthony), Laura, Barbara (David), Anita, Rose Ann (Albert), Florence (Clarence), Trudy, all of Eskasoni, Doreen (Pius), Membertou, Linda and Karen of NB; brothers, Roderick (Christine), Ryan (Hazel), Raymond, Steve (April), Francis ‘Mick’ (Dorothy), all of Eskasoni, by special family friend, Noel ‘Ginger’ Marshall and also by numerous extended family. Visitation for the late Mr. Googoo will be on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at the family residence, 140 Spencer’s Lane, Eskasoni, after 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, at Holy Family Church with Rev. JAMES (JIMMY) HINES Passed in: NEILS HARBOUR, Nova Scotia Passed on: July 26th, 2016 James (Jimmy) Godfery Hines of Ingonish Beach passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 26 at Buchanan Memorial Community Health Center in Neil's Harbour. Son of James and Susan (Brewer) Hines, Jimmy was raised till the age of 5 by his grandmother, Minnie Hines and then cared for by his aunt and uncle, Winifred (Hines) and Isadore Donovan. Jimmy considered his cousin; Donald Donovan (predeceased) a brother. Jimmy worked as a groundskeeper tending the grass and flowers at the Keltic Lodge for most of his life. Jimmy had a child-like innocence that made him loved, young and fun, even at the age of 80. He is survived by his companion, Anne Marie Hunt and sadly missed by family and friends. There will be a gathering for condolences at St. Peter's Church in Ingonish on Friday morning, at 10 a.m. with the funeral mass to follow at 11 a.m. with Fr. Lazarus Guria officiating. THOMAS SMITH Passed in: SYDNEY MINES Passed on: June 19th, 2016 With great sadness, we announce the death of Thomas Sullivan Smith, 67, of 22 RB Smith St., Sydney Mines at the Northside General Hospital on June 19, 2016. He was the son of Robert B. and Margaret Anne (MacKay) Smith of Sydney Mines. Tommy was a graduate of Sydney Mines High and majored in Drama and Philosophy at UCCB, in Sydney. Old friends will remember his adept portrayal of The Cowardly Lion and The Ugly Step Mother in drama productions in years past. More recently, Tommy was an enthusiastic member of the Sydney Mines Story Telling Club. He worked for many years as a coal miner, proving himself a worthy successor to his dad and grandfathers legacies. Tommy was predeceased by his parents; brothers, James and Robert; two sisters in infancy; sister, Katherine Herbert and brother-in-law, Bud Audoux. He is survived by brothers, John and Peter; sisters, Margaret Audoux, Lillian MacPhee (John), Janet Smith and sister-in-law, June Smith. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Visitation will be held at JM Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines on Saturday, July 30th, 2016 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service to celebrate Tommy’s life. ALEXANDER CALDER Passed on: March 1st, 2016 An interment service will be held for Alexander 'Alex' James Calder on Sunday, July 31, at Resurrection Cemetery. Alex died on March 1, 2016. The service begins at 2 p.m., and will be followed by a celebration for friends and family at 16 Sutherland Street in Sydney. JAMES AUBREY MCLEAN James Aubrey McLean - Halifax, passed away Friday, July 22, 2016 in Camp Hill Veteran's Memorial Building, QEII. Aubrey was born Sept 4, 1920 in New Waterford, CB, the son of the late James Murdoch and Ethel (Dolly) (Crockett) McLean of 802 George St., Sydney. He resided in Halifax since 1947. Aubrey graduated from Sydney Academy in 1938 and continued his studies at Mount Allison University. While attending university, Aubrey was fortunate to survive a serious fire which broke out in the Men's Residence, resulting in several students losing their lives, including three men from Sydney, and the building completely destroyed. In 1942, Aubrey attended Brockville Officers Training Course, then went overseas where he joined the 18th Field Engineers Company in France. While in Holland, one month before the end of WWII, Aubrey was very seriously wounded when he stepped on a German land mine resulting in the loss of his leg and other injuries. After returning home from hospital in England, Aubrey attended Nova Scotia Tech in Halifax and received his degree in Engineering. He was employed with Riley Engineer Sales and Nova Scotia Construction Association until his retirement. Aubrey was a member of the War Amps of Nova Scotia and an executive of War Amps of Canada and was actively involved in many seminars, youth camps and conventions, assisting the "Champs" in adjusting to their new prostheses (legs and arms). He was devoted to helping many of the youth get a better start in life. Each year he made arrangements to have the War Amp float up and ready for participation in parades including the Apple Blossom Festival in Kentville, Natal Day in Halifax and Sydney's Action Week as the "Champs" looked forward to riding on their float. Along with his brother, Aubrey returned to France and Holland several times to celebrate the Liberation Anniversaries of France and Holland and to visit wartime friends. Aubrey was predeceased by his parents, J.M. and Ethel McLean, wife Marion (Williams) and two brothers, Earl and Floyd. Aubrey is survived by his sister Pearl (late Lloyd) MacAulay, brother Doug, son Billy (Jackie) and several grand and great-grandchildren. Aubrey was an active member of St. Andrew's United Church in Halifax. Our family would like to say thank you for the special care given to Aubrey by J. Smith and the doctors, nurses and staff at Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd. Cremation has taken place. No visitation. Memorial service at 1pm, Thursday, July 28, 2016 in the Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Russ Daye officiating. Reception to follow. Family flowers only. Internment in Fairview Lawn Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the War Amps of Canada.
