David was the son of the late Bernard and Mildred (Carroll) MacAulay. David graduated from Dalhousie University and the Nova Technical College as an Electrical Engineer. He worked at Sydney Steel then went on to study in California. David returned home to care for his ailing parents. David had many hobbies including golf, the Gun Club and Historical Society. David was a true gentleman and a man of great integrity. He is survived by his cousin, Gerald MacDonald (Gloria), also by family of the late Ronald MacDonald (wife Kaye), Karen (Tom) and Paul and many more cousins out of town and across Canada. There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 7 at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Church with Rev. Dennis Lamey officiating. Diane Barrington Born In: Sydney, Nova Scotia Born: July 1st, 1952 Passed in: Sydney, Nova Scotia Passed on: November 2nd, 2016 We, the family of Diane Frances (Piercy) Barrington, regret to announce her passing on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family. Born July 1, 1952, in Sydney, she was the daughter of Edith (Musgrave) Piercy and the late George Piercy. In her earlier years, Diane was employed at Smith’s Bakery in Ashby. In recent years, she was employed with the Cape Breton Victoria Regional School Board as head cleaner at Malcolm Munroe Memorial Middle School, where her hard work didn’t go unnoticed, as you could eat off the floors. She loved to dance, enjoyed playing cards and was an excellent baker. Diane was a very loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother and will forever be in the hearts of her loved ones. She will also be remembered for her vibrant personality and contagious laugh. Diane is survived by her husband, Collie Sparling; her sons, Keith (Jane Anne), New Waterford, Shayne (Katrina), Cambridge, Ont. and John (Rebecca), Sydney; brothers, George Jr. (Linda), Sydney and Troy (Suzanne), Glace Bay; four grandchildren, Kennedy Paige, Case and twins, Kayleigh and Brett; nephews, Josh and Gregory; niece, Rayne and Collie’s children, Gary, Colleen (David) and Heather (Willie). Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Sunday 1 p.m., with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. JAMES ALBERT FLEMING Born In: NEW WATERFORD Passed in: SYDNEY Passed on: November 2nd, 2016 With broken hearts we announce the passing of James Albert Fleming, 84, on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late James and Jane (MacDonald) Fleming. Jim was a lifelong resident of Pellett Avenue, New Waterford. In younger years, Jim served in the Airforce and later worked in the coal mines until his retirement. Jim was a loyal and contributing member of the New Waterford Pensioners' Club. Some of Jim's favorite pastimes were playing golf, darts and bowling. He also loved playing cards with his buddies at the Pensioners' Club. Jim read a great number of books in his lifetime. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening and being in the fresh air sitting on his swing. Jim is survived by his daughter, Margie Legere (Rick), Amherst, N.S.; son, Jimmy (April), New Waterford; grandchildren, Troy, Keera, Austin, Aiden; great-grandchildren, Kaylie, Tyler, Jayce, Evan, Aleena, Everly; sister, Anita (Stan) Burke, New Waterford; brothers, Dennis and Joe, Ontario; sister-in-law, Annie Mae (Ray) MacKenzie. Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn 'Evie' Fleming; brother, Gerald and sister, Catherine 'Kitty' Bauld. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2016, at 1 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Helen DURANDO (MacEachern) Born In: NEW WATERFORD It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Helen Durando, age 70, on Monday, October 31st 2016. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Mary (Butts) MacEachern and a former member of St. Agnes Parish. Helen was employed at MT&T for 30 years, where she made many great friends and later in life moved to Bedford to enjoy her retirement. Helen spent every summer at the ‘Bungalow’ in Mira, cooking large meals with family and sharing a laugh with friends. Helen will be sadly missed by her son, Danny (Patricia); daughter, Lisa (Craig); grandchildren, Robert and Colby; sister, Linda MacPhee; brothers, Dan and Wilfred MacEachern; nieces and nephews. Helen will also be missed by her extended family, Bev and Brady, whom she loved dearly. Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband, Robert Durando; sister, Annabell Tkalec; brother, Raymond MacEachern and brother-in-law, Gar MacPhee. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Donald K. Walker Funeral Home, Dartmouth and V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. Visitation will be held today (Friday November 4th 2016) from 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will take place Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. A luncheon will follow at St. Leonard's Parish Hall on Convent Street, New Waterford. Burial will be held in St.Agnes Cemetery immediately following the funeral mass. Sandra Kay Fraser Passed on: October 27th, 2016 Sandra Kay Fraser formerly from Ball's Creek passed away October 27, 2015 in Vancouver, B.C. She is predeceased by her mother and father, June and Randolph Fraser of Ingonish; her sister, Holly and brothers, Rannie and Keith. She is survived by her brothers, Bruce of North Sydney, John of Vancouver, Justin (Bonita), Sydney and also her sister-in-law, Veronica of Florence, along with a number of nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her good friends, Carol Ranni, Ann Bonang and Marlene Harrietha. Cremation has taken place in Vancouver and her ashes forever remain in Cape Breton as her wishes and have been distributed over Ingonish and Bras D'or Lakes.
