Funeral arrangements are under the direction of… Catherine “Katie” Berezuk Born In: Ukraine Born: February 28th, 1924 Passed in: Baddeck, Nova Scotia Passed on: November 4th, 2016 It is with heartfelt sadness that we the family announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Catherine “Katie” Berezuk, 92, on November 4, 2016 at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck with loving family at her side. Katie was born on February 28, 1924 in Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in 1930. She was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Anna (Boisak) Witka and was the last remaining member of her family. Katie was proud of her Ukrainian heritage and in her younger years was an active member of the Ukrainian Woman’s Club. She had a great love for the outdoors and spent many happy days camping and fishing with her family. She also had a passion for gardening and took great pride in her flowers and vegetables. She was predeceased by her husband, John; sons, John and Danny and her brother, Raymond. Katie is survived by her children, Roddy (Anne), Lawrencetown, Diane ‘Cookie’ (Larry) Johnston, South Haven; daughters-in-law, Barbara, Victoria, BC and Cynthia, Bras d’Or; she was Baba to eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; also survived by several nieces and nephews. At Katie’s request there will be no visitation. Memorial mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 8 at 11 a.m. in Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Roman Dusanowskyj officiating. A reception will take place at the parish hall following the memorial mass. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney. We would like to thank the Victoria County Home Care Workers, Community Health nurses and staff at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital for all their care and compassion.
