Born in Broad Cove on March 24th, 1932, he was raised by adopted parents Mary Catherine and Angus MacNeil. Josie is survived by sisters Marion (Jim) MacDonald, Inverness and Peggy (David) Burke, Toronto, ON; brothers Donald (Margaret, deceased) MacLeod, Cheticamp; Jackie, deceased (Jeanette) MacLeod, Toronto ON; nieces Donna, Deborah, Jennifer, and Charlene; and nephew James, all in Ontario. Josie was a certified welder and worked on the Seal Island Bridge, as well as many other construction projects around the province. He had a great love of horses, especially the two he kept at home. Josie's interests included a keen focus on family history. He kept many photographs and records of things related to the MacLeod clan. He enjoyed Scottish concerts, especially the fiddle music, and owned a large collection of CDs, records, and cassettes. Josie was fluent in Gaelic and was delighted when he could engage with people in lively conversation. He will indeed be missed by his many friends and family. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 10th in St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Broad Cove, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. with funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Duncan MacIsaac officiating, burial to follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Margaret of Scotland Parish Cemetery Fund, Broad Cove. GLABAIS Alexis Amedee Glabais, age 79, passed away November 7th, 2016, surrounding by his loving family in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Born in Inverness November 18th, 1936, he was a son of the late Alex and Lucy Glabais. Alex graduated with a diploma in barbering in 1955 and worked in his own barber shop in Inverness for over 60 years. Alex enjoyed playing cards, usually winning, listening to country music, keeping the fire going, and was known for striking up a conversation with everyone he met. Alex leaves behind his partner Audy Gillis; son Stephen (Charlene) Gillis; daughter Kelly (Eddie) Cummings; grandchildren Kenny, Donald, Lucy, Roddie, John Angus, and Harrison; sister Anne Bouwman; and niece Darlene VanRavens. Alex was predeceased by his parents; brother Francis; and nephew Rob. Alex's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Alex's sister- in-law Jane and niece Stephanie for their support during his illness and to all staff at the Inverness Hospital for their care during his stay. Cremation has taken place, there will be no visitation or funeral at Alex's request. A private graveside burial will take place at a later date for family members. MacMILLAN Florence MacMillan, age 91, of Port Hood, passed away peacefully November 4th, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at Inverary Manor. She was born November 23rd, 1924, in St.Ninian to Sarah MacMaster and was raised by her grandparents, Flora and Archie MacMaster. Florence was a very hard worker and a very loving woman. For many years she worked as a caregiver in Boston; later she cooked at Mary’s Hill Home, St. Peter’s Convent, and numerous camps in Northern Alberta. Hospitals in Toronto and hotels and motels around Inverness County were among some of the places Florence worked. She was kindly referred to as “The Avon Lady” all around the region, many backroads, and across by boat to Port Hood Island. After her husband suffered a permanent injury, Florence managed the Esso garage in Port Hood. Never an idle person, she enjoyed knitting, baking, and a good game of cards and was well known for her sewing skills and her biscuits. She was a long time devoted member of St. Peter’s CWL, volunteering her baking and knitting. Besides her mother and grandparents she was predeceased by her former husband Andrew, her aunt Margaret Cossboom, her uncle Duncan Archie MacMaster, and sons-in-law Archie and George Batherson. She is survived by children Donald Archie (Gayle), Bridgewater, MA; Anne Batherson (Bernie), Lynn, MA; Marguerite Batherson, Dartmouth, NS; Billy (Marlene), Port Hood; and Glenn (Shelly), Porters Lake, NS. Also survived by foster sisters Gene MacIntyre (Leo), Belle Cote, NS; Anne Shea (Charlie), Sommerville, MA; grandchildren Heather, Kim, Scott, Alanna, Eric, Dean, Hannah, David, and Danny. Also survived by great-grandchildren Kyler, Owen, Gennelle, and Alex. Visitation for Florence was held on Monday, November 7th in Port Hood Resting Place. Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, November 8th, in St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Father Vincent VanZutphen officiating; burial followed in church cemetery. Donations in memory of Florence may be made to St. Peter’s Cemetery Fund. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Sunset Funeral Co-operative, Margaree Valley.
