Dad came to Cambridge in 2009 where he resided with Debbie his oldest daughter until his death. Dad was born in Greenspond NL on Nov 9, 1937 to Edward and Frances Kean. Dad leaves behind Debbie Frances Thorne (Gerry), Bruce James (Nahid) Waterloo, ON and Wanda Lynn (David) Holyrood, NL. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Kristal Groom (Joshua), Kayla Thorne (Lance) and Noah Kean. He leaves one great-granddaughter, Charlie Grace Groom. Dad will also be missed by his brother, Bruce Kean, Barrie, ON, and sisters, Verna White, Mt. Pearl, NL and Yvonne Kean, St. John’s, NL and his 23 nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by sisters, Nellie, Mary, Twin sister, Margaret, Alison, Louise and Lorraine. Also leaving behind are his very special friends, Sylvia and Mac Penney (Canning’s Cove, NL). Dad’s family consisted of many friends and co-workers throughout his lifetime with 46 years working alongside amazing individuals with Marine Atlantic. Names are too numerous to mention. His passion for his position; Bosun (senior crewman of the deck), his attention to detail, his knots expertise, splicing the rope, rigging, anchors, cables and love of the sea will definitely share many stories about Jimmy around the table tonight. A toast or two will be made to him and his laughter, his stories about growing up in Greenspond and his times on his ships will always be told and remembered by those who cared and loved him. Jimmy, you were one in a million! You always had the right phase to say or share. We will remember and share with others. Dad you never missed a day of work in 46 years! You believed in a strong work day will earn you a good day. You taught your children an amazing work ethic and showed us how to laugh at the small stuff and take it all in stride. We will all remember that the “flag must be flown”, “the ship must always sail” and that “ there is never a Good-Bye but only a See Ya Later and May God Bless”. Dad, until we see you again, remember to watch over us all and ensure we have smooth crossings ahead. Sail on Jimmy…….We Love you xoxo. In lieu of flowers, any donation may be made to any Local Humane Society or S.P.C.A. as dads love for any animal was enormous.
