She will be missed by many. Betty was born in Bridgetown on September 11, 1932, daughter of the late Carolyn Stowe (Ruffee) and Redvers D. Wells and step daughter to Phyllis Harding. Betty graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Halifax Infirmary in 1956 and married the recently graduated Engineer, Robert Rudderham in 1957. While Robert was in the Air Force, they lived in many places across Canada, until they eventually settled in Cape Breton, where they raised their family and lived for over 53 years in Sydney and Point Edward. Most of those years were in a new home they built in 1972 in Point Edward. Betty’s passion and joy was in being a mother, grandmother, and home maker. Betty kept an immaculate home and she was described by many as the ‘best cook on the planet’. She often and graciously opened her home to all visitors, some from around the world. Betty enjoyed her family and socializing with friends, especially over a game of Tarabish, Bridge, Rummoli or 45’s, not to mention kitchen Ceilidhs, yard-sales, and her volunteer work with Meals-on-Wheels. Betty was very well known for her big heart, generosity, and strength of character. Most of all, Betty enjoyed her family, her husband of over 59 years, her children and many grandchildren. As Betty became a grandmother several times she assumed the loving nickname of Ninny, preferring not to be called Nanny or Grandma. Betty is survived by her husband, Robert (Bob) and her seven children, John (Jean), Cathy (Joel Smith), David (Charlene), Paul (Eva), Thomas (Judy), Ellen (Charles Gaudet) and Joseph (Shelley). As well, Betty is survived by 18 grandchildren, Chelsea, Robert, David, Oliver, Elizabeth, Jordan, Corey (Marlena), James, Tara (Jerome Pelletier), Brianne, Adrianna, Michaela, Joseph, Stéphane, Sam, Jennah, Melanie (Aziz Alfadli) and Meghan (Ray Hopwood); as well as great-grandchildren, Skye, Lincoln, Macey and two others on their way. Betty is also survived by her two sisters, Cynthia (Matt Spence) and Phyllis Wells and many nephews, nieces and in-laws. Betty is predeceased by an infant daughter, Susan Christina and two siblings, Redvers “Junior” Wells and Mary Wells-Loss. A special thanks from the family to the caring staff at the South Cumberland Community Care Centre (Long Term Care) and to daughter Cathy for providing extra comfort and care during Betty’s final days. A Funeral and Celebration of Life service will be held at Smith’s Funeral Home in Parrsboro on Saturday November 12, 2016 at 11 a.m. For those many friends in Cape Breton, a memorial and celebration will be held in Point Edward at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the South Cumberland Community Care Centre Foundation or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family. HARRIET ALEXANDRA ANDREWS Born In: NORTH SYDNEY, Nova Scotia Born: August 8th, 1941 Passed in: SYDNEY, Nova Scotia Passed on: November 5th, 2016 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Harriet Alexandra Andrews, age 75, on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Harriet was born in North Sydney on August 8, 1941, the eldest daughter of the late William and Christena (MacNeil) Stubbert. Left to mourn her passing is her son, Calum (Tracey), Keswick Ridge, NB; her grandchildren, Caylin and Josh; her sisters, Joanne Crenshaw, Merrimac, Massachusetts, Wilma (Kevin) Carey, Sydney Mines; her brothers, Harold, St. Catharines, ON, Clifford (Astelle), Millville and four nephews. Besides her parents, Harriet was predeceased by her husband, Ralph and her son, Josh. Harriet’s chosen career as a lab technologist saw her working at various local hospitals, Fisheries Canada and the lab at Scotsburn Dairy. In addition to her 35 year career, Harriet was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who always put others first before herself. Upon her retirement, Harriet had the time to partake in all the things she loved to do. She enjoyed traveling and went on several vacations and cruises around the world. Like so many Canadians, Harriet became a “snowbird”, spending most winters at her home in St. Petersburg, FL. She also took great joy in visiting family and friends both near and far. Harriet also volunteered endless hours with organizations that had significant meaning and importance to her. When Harriet wasn't volunteering her time, she could be found refinishing antiques, tole painting, sewing or mowing her seven acre property. For those who knew Harriet, she would quickly put aside whatever she was doing to give a helping hand or accept an invitation to accompany a friend on another journey in life. Harriet lived her life to the fullest! A very special thank you to her close neighbors and friends whom Harriet could always count on when needed. A visitation will be held Saturday, November 12 from 2-4 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com <http://www.wjdooley.com/>. Clifford John MacKinnon Passed on: November 6th, 2016 With broken hearts we, the family of Clifford MacKinnon, announce his passing on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Sydney he is the son of Mary MacKinnon and the late John Joe MacGillivary. Clifford was a carpenter by trade and for the last number of years worked as the Maintenance Supervisor at St. Ann’s Gaelic College. Clifford was loved by all who knew him for his kind heart and wonderful sense of humour. He loved music, friends and especially his family. Clifford had many interests and enjoyed following NASCAR, especially Matt Kenseth. Clifford held a close affinity to everything celtic; he had a love of the Gaelic language, music and of the fiddle. This affinity may be responsible for Clifford’s dry wit and love of a good tale. Besides his mother, Mary, Clifford is also survived by his loving wife, Ann Marie (MacNeil); daughters, Jade (Dennis) Gillis, Karla (Kirk) Danyluk; brother, Roderick MacGillivary and sisters, Joanne MacGillivary and Juanita (Ralph MacLean) MacGillivary. He is also survived by nephews, Ian MacGillivray, Julien Rouleau, and Samuel Rouleau. He is also survived by his cousins, Wayne MacDonald and Michael MacDonald, who were as close as siblings. Besides his father, Clifford is predeceased by his close cousins, Frances (MacDonald) Lund and Mary Ida (MacDonald) Brooks. Clifford is also predeceased by his furry best friend, Lauchie. Cremation has taken place. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 12th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Parish, East Bay with Father Albert Maroun officiating with reception to follow. Donations in Clifford’s memory can be made to the S.P.C.A., Sydney division or the St. Ann’s Gaelic College Bursary Fund. Until we meet again.
