She was born in Glace Bay on January 25, 1926 and was a lifelong resident of Glace Bay where she raised her three children. She leaves behind her grieving family; her son, Bernie (Raylene); daughter, Sandi Cummings and daughter, Lynne (Lyn) McDiarmid. She will be greatly missed by her dear grandchildren, Zachary Martin, Grayson McDiarmid, Kelsey Rafuse, Jonathan Cummings, Noah and Grayson MacIntosh as well as six great-granddaughters. Carmie worked for many years for the Federal Government. She also volunteered at Victoria Haven Nursing Home where she later returned to be cared for in the final months of her life. She loved to bowl, play bingo and she did beautiful paper tole pictures that are now treasured by her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Alex and their 70 year marriage was a blessed example to their family. The family would like to give a note of deep gratitude to the staff at Victoria Haven. She spent the final months of her life in their care and her last days were sweetened by their affectionate concern. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the care of Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 2, 10 a.m. at St. Anne’s Church. The Rev. Dorothy Larade (Tell) Passed on: October 30th, 2016 Dorothy Larade (Tell), 92, peacefully passed away Sunday, October 30 at Palliative Care Unit of the C.B. Regional Hospital. A lifelong resident of Ashby, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Joseph in 1985. She is survived by her children, Ann (Alex), Joe (Cathy), Conrad (Pauline), Julia and Frank (Barbara); grandchildren, Mary Charlotte, Carol Ann (Sandy), Brian (Rachel), Kevin (Joanne), Mathew, Lenny and Elise; great grandchildren, Ella and Mila, along with sisters-in-law, Isabel and Julia Tell. Dorothy was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was predeceased by parents, Edward and Lily Tell and brothers, ‘the Tell boys’ Eddie, Fred, Danny, Bill, Cyril and Henry. St. Theresa's Church was a focal point in Dorothy's life where she made many dear friends while being active in the CWL and countless years with the Girls Guides of Canada. Dorothy’s family would like to thank the staff of CBRH emergency department for the care given during her extended stay last week. Special thanks to the staff of An Cala Palliative Care and Father McGillivray of Sydney. At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or charity of your choice. Visitation will be held at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral services will be held at St. Theresa’s Church on Thursday November 3rd at 10 a.m. with Rev. Dennis Lamey officiating. Sheila Marie Kostey Passed on: October 29th, 2016 We, the family, wish to announce the sudden passing of Sheila Kostey on Saturday, October 29, at home. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Pauline Kostey. Sheila worked at the Glace Bay General Hospital for 27 years in admissions and the emergency room. She was a wonderful woman with a very kind, loving heart. She was very dedicated to her profession and helped anyone she could. She is survived by the love of her life, Kevin King; children, George (Jennifer), Margaret; grandchildren, Jacob, Jesse, Katie and Zachy; god-children, Patrick Wadden and Sarah MacKay; also by Mary (MacKay) Binder and her family; one aunt, Jennie Kennedy; numerous cousins and the King family. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 3, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main Street, Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Friday, November 4, at Holy Cross Church. The Rev Norman MacPhee will be officiating. The interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
