Yes, and hey it’s good to be back home again.’ John Denver. Rest well, Mom! George CARMICHAEL It is with mixed emotions that we, the children of George Henry Carmichael, announce his passing on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at home. Our hearts are combined with that of joy and sorrow. Joy, that he is finally reunited with our mother, Ruth, with whom he shared 53 loving years of marriage and longed for the day he would see her again. Sorrow that we are losing his loving presence in our lives where his kind heart and gentle soul will be forever missed. Dad was very active in his community, belonging to many organizations over the years. He dedicated much of his time to his church as a Sunday school superintendent, choir member, deacon, trustee, and camp committee member, just to name a few. Dad’s love of travel, combined with his keen sense of adventure, had us as children taking spontaneous trips to Expo, family trips to Disney World, or wherever in the world Dad felt there was something for us to see. He continued to be involved in his children and grandchildren’s activities and would spend many hours boating, skiing, fishing or sitting on the sidelines of a soccer game and cheering from the stands at the hockey rinks. Dad leaves behind three children, Rob (Neila), Karen (Victor) Jackson and Don (Carla), seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth (Peddle); his parents, George and Grace (Jackson) Carmichael and his brothers, Vernon, Jim and Gordon. Gordon and Dad, lovingly referred to as the “Carmichael Boys”, had a special bond from an early age. In more recent years they spent time together attending the Harbourview Day Care, “that we fondly referred to as Daddy Daycare”, where they were revered as true gentlemen with great integrity. A quote that Dad embraced. “May you always have Love to Share, Heart to Spare and Friends that Care!” A Celebration of Life will be held at the Calvary Baptist Church, Beach St., North Sydney on Saturday, November 12 at 4:00 p.m. Family requests that any donations be made to the Harbourview Daycare Program or to a charity of your choice.
