Born in New Water ford, Diane was the daughter of Darlene (Richardson) Steiger and the late Lloyd Steiger. Diane loved music and playing computer games with her son. She had a large number of medical challenges her whole life, which she faced with courage and strength. Besides her mother, Diane is survived by her son and best friend, Morgan; brother, Lloyd ( Lee); sister, Janet; nieces, Laura Lee, Tracy, aunts, uncles and many cousins. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2- 4 and 7- 9 p. m. in V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Allister Edward 'Bo' Beaton Born In: River Denys It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Allister Edward 'Bo' Beaton, age 84, on Feb. 22, 2016, after a brief battle with cancer. Born in 1931 in River Denys, Inverness County to the late John 'Jack' and Blanche (MacArthur) Beaton, Bo is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Anna Mae (Binns). Bo was employed at the Cape Breton Post for 46 years as the Press Foreman, a position he thoroughly enjoyed. He was a volunteer with many organizations over the years, including president of the Men’s Club at Holy Rosary Church, a dedicated baseball coach, member of the Residential Tenancy Board, Progressive Conservative Party volunteer and union volunteer. Bo’s family, including his children and his grandchildren, were such an important part of his life, and his reason for living. Both he and Mae were dedicated to their family, and provided a wonderful home in Westmount where many happy memories were created, and laughter was shared. In addition to Mae, Bo is survived by his children, Edward (Jan) Beaton, Sydney, Nancy (Valerie Pelletier) Beaton, Halifax, Terry Chasse, Westmount, and Mary Jane (Daniel) Morrison, Westmount. He is also survived by his daughters-in-law, Daphne Beaton, New Hampshire, Pam Beaton, Yellowknife; grandchildren, Nicholas and Ryan Beaton, Emily (Daniel) and Patrick (Erin) Chasse, Meaghan Beaton, Libby and Rory Morrison, Connor, Delaney, Anghus and Sophie Beaton, and Renee, Philippe (Susie), Marc (Jade), and Danielle (Scott) Pelletier; great-grandchildren, Eliana, Nadege and Evelyn; brothers-in-law, Frank (Carlotta) Binns, Eugene (Regina) Binns and lifelong friend, Gerard McNamara. Besides his parents, Bo was predeceased by his sons, Paul and Allister 'Al' Beaton and by his sister, Mary Worobel; sister-in-law, Mary Lou MacPhee and brother-in-law, Edward 'Buddy' Binns. Special thanks to Dr. Bernie MacIntosh, the VON staff and Palliative Care Unit for their wonderful care and compassion. A service commemorating his life will be held Thursday, Feb. 25th at 2 p.m. in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home in Sydney. Lloyd Leyte Born In: North Sydney Born: October 6th, 1935 Passed in: Calgary, Canada Passed on: February 20th, 2016 With heavy hearts we regret to announce the passing of a dear husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Lloyd Leyte on Feb. 20, 2016 in Calgary, AB. Born Oct. 6, 1935 in North Sydney. He worked 34 years for Marine Atlantic until his retirement in 1997. Lloyd was a sports enthusiast having dedicated years of service to youth recreation in North Sydney. While he was fiercely proud of his Little League Rotary Reds, one of his proudest sports moments was bringing the North Sydney Little League All Stars to play in the Canadian Little League Championships in Valleyfield, QC. Lloyd spent countless years coaching every level of minor hockey while he also made many of good friends playing Junior and Senior hockey himself. He was a huge Toronto Maple Leafs fan, avid skater, line dancer and enjoyed many years in various bowling leagues that included his much awaited annual Marine Atlantic bowling teams road trip. After moving to Calgary he continued his passion for bowling with the Chinook Bowling League. Lloyd’s service to others did not stop with sports. In 1972 he was awarded the Medal of Bravery for entering a burning building to help rescue three elderly ladies. Lloyd was a very giving, soft spoken man who could tell a good story. He will be dearly missed. Lloyd is survived by his loving wife, Ruth (Burns); his children, Doug (Patricia), Lynn (Lloyd), Bruce (Lisa); the mother of Lloyd’s children, Beverly; stepchildren, Brian (Lorrie), Susan, Sharon (Jake), Douglas; grandchildren, Jessica (Mark), Coady (Dana), Ashlee (Brandon), Katelyn (Chris), Brian (Laura), Cory (Shaunna), Tyler (Melissa), Shelby, Ryan, William, Marshal, Jaxan, Makayla and Victor. Also his seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Marg (Bud), Ollie (Bud), Lina; sisters-in-law, Shirley and Lillian and many nieces and nephews. Special family friends Brian, Debbie, Paulina, little Mark and big Mark. Lloyd was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Margaret; brothers, Clayton, Harry, George, Charles, Walter, Percy, Norman and Stanley, sisters Mildred, Myrtle, Edith, Louise and Irene. A memorial service will take place at a later d Warren Anthony Lionel LeBlanc Born In: Toronto, Ontario, Canada Born: June 29th, 1968 Passed in: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Passed on: January 20th, 2016 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Warren Anthony Lionel LeBlanc on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, in Edmonton, Alta. Born on June 29, 1968 in Toronto, Ont. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Edmonton. He was the son of Lionel Joseph LeBlanc and the late Eleanor (Aucoin) LeBlanc of St. Joseph du Moine, Cheticamp and Sydney. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn LeBlanc; children, Brandone, Courtney (Matthew) Marcovitc and Damion, all of Edmonton, Alta.; his sisters, Noreen (Darren) MacLean, Strathlorne; Bonnie (Dave) Pyke, Sydney; Paula LeBlanc (Douglas Dupe), Stratford, Ont. and also by several nephews and niece. He leaves behind his most cherished granddaughter, Rayne, who was the light of his life. Warren was a loving son, husband, father and a brother who will be dearly missed. Warren will also be missed by his co-workers of 16 years with R&M Express Edmonton. Cremation has taken place. Dorothy 'Lorraine' MacLean Born In: Sydney Mines Passed in: Sydney Passed on: February 22nd, 2016 Dorothy Lorraine MacLean, age 83 of Sydney, N.S., formerly of Florence, passed away on Monday, Feb. 22, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the eldest daughter of the late Gordon and Margaret (Day) Nugent. She was a member of Sacred Heart parish, Sydney and also a longtime member of the parish CWL. Lorraine was an active volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society in Sydney and worked at her husband’s side at MacLean’s Service Centre for many years. She is survived by her daughters, Judy (Hector) Hayes, Lower Sackville; Marie MacLean, Sydney; Mary (Richard) Devoe, Sydney; Susan (John) MacDonnell, Bridgewater; son, Paul (Clare) MacLean, Sydney; daughter-in-law, Karen MacLean, New Minas; sisters, Margaret Bugden (Ricky Vickers), Sydney Mines; Theresa Nugent, Ontario; brother, William ‘Billy’ (Joan) Nugent, Bras d’Or; grandchildren, Tracey, Trudy, Kelly (Hayes); Stacey, Shane, Janice (MacLean); Lorianne, Nadine, Teressa (Butler); Stephen, Shaun, Paula (MacLean); Tara (MacLean); Jeffrey, Kate (Devoe); Michael, Heather (MacDonnell); 26 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law. Joyce will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Dorothy (Gray) Toomey, and her brother, Thomas Toomey. Charlotte Jane 'Lal' Coleman Born In: Sydney Passed in: Baddeck Passed on: February 21st, 2016 It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Charlotte Jane 'Lal' Coleman, 89 of Baddeck and formerly of Halifax. Lal was born in Sydney and passed peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 21st at Alderwood Rest Home in Baddeck. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Anne Beatrice (Burgey) Keating. She is survived by her sister, Genevive Anne (Chris) Tiller, Clearwater, Florida; nieces and nephews, Dr. Raymond (Meredith) McGrath, Baddeck; Rose Anne (Tony) Penney, Ben Eoin; Joe Anne (Edward) Devereaux, Ben Eoin; Raymond (Elaine) Keating, Ontario and Dr. Dale Tiller, Omaha, Nebraska. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. William B. Coleman; her sisters, Rose Marie (John) McGrath and Genevieve (Gen) Chisholm and brother, Raymond A. (Buddy) Keating. Cremation has taken place and a funeral mass will be celebrated with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating at St. Michael’s Church, Baddeck 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27th. A reception will follow at St. Michael’s Parish Hall. Family burial will be at a later date. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Lal’s caregivers at Alderwood Rest Home who were so kind and understanding during her time of need. Raymond Hugh MacMullin Born In: Sydney Passed in: Cole Harbour Passed on: February 19th, 2016 Age 62, of Cole Harbour, passed away Feb. 19, 2016, after a lengthy illness. Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Malcolm and Mary MacMullin, Piper’s Cove. Starting with clothing and then footwear, he worked in sales for most of his working life, most recently as a national sales manager for Vanity Fashions, whom he considered his second family. He also enjoyed camping in Sherwood Forest for many years with family and friends. Sarah 'Ann' MacLeod Born In: Newfoundland Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: February 21st, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016 at the Seaview Manor. Ann was born in Nfld., and was the daughter of the late John and Florence Dean. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents she was predeceased by husband, William; sons, Dossie, James Howard, Eric, Barry; four brothers, six sisters, three half-brothers and three grandchildren. Ann is survived by son, Donald (Marilyn); daughters, Dolly (Ron), Ann, Bev (Melvin) and Helen; also numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016 from 12-2 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, with funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date. The family would like to thank the nursing and caregiver staff at Seaview Manor for their special care and thoughtfulness to our mother.
