Dad died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 80 years old. He was born in Gardiner Mines and was the son of the late Harold and Sadie (O’Brien) Waidson. He is survived by his sons, Myles (Corinne) and Ken (Frances), his daughters, Cathy (Eugene), Colleen (Jamie), brother, Aubrey (Rene), sisters, Mildred, Margie (Joe) and nine loving grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Amelia "Tissie" (Detienne) Waidson and his sister, Mabel in infancy. He was an automotive mechanic by trade and a handyman at plumbing, electrical and carpentry. At one time he operated Joe’s Texaco service station in Sydney and from there was employed at Yazor Pontiac and Ron May Pontiac before retiring. Dad enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He also liked to ride his motorcycle and spend time with his biker friends. Spending time at the Reserve Mines Volunteer Fire Department helping at Bingo, functions and repairing the equipment was a favorite pastime for over forty years. Visitation will take place at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in Reserve Mines on Wednesday at 3 p.m. with Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment will take place at a later date in St. James Cemetery, Gardiner Mines where Dad had been the care taker for many years. He took great pride in looking after St. James Cemetery. Donations to the cemetery fund in his memory would be greatly appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the visitation. Rita Frances Hareguy Born In: Cambridge Massachusetts Passed in: Whitney Pier Passed on: March 18th, 2016 It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Rita Hareguy on Friday, Mar. 18, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Cambridge, Mass, USA, Rita was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Whalen) Carew. She was the last member of her immediate family. Rita lived her whole life in Whitney Pier. She was an avid bingo player and will be missed by her many friends especially, Haddie O’Rourke. Rita’s home was always welcoming, she loved people to visit and she loved to entertain. Rita will be missed by all who knew her. Rita is survived by her children, Ken (Jean) Carew, Jean (Brent) Pushie, and Joe (Darlene) Hareguy; eight grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, Doug, Kim, Kelly, Krista, Angie and Joel; 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Pearl (Fred) Clark; many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, across Canada and the United States. Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Hareguy, son, Raymond in infancy, grandson, Joseph, sisters, Mary Murphy and Dorothy Margettie, brother, Bernard Carew and two brothers in infancy. There will be no visitation for the late Rita Hareguy. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Mar. 22, 2016, at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the mass a reception will be held in the lower level of the church. A private family interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks at a later date. James Aubrey 'Mick’ Boozan Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: March 18th, 2016 James Aubrey 'Mick' Boozan, age 77 of Glace Bay, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Glace Bay Hospital. The funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. www.vjmcgillivray.ca <http://www.vjmcgillivray.ca/> Daniel 'Danny' Gallant Passed in: New Waterford Passed on: March 20th, 2016 Daniel 'Danny' Gallant died peacefully on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the age of 100 in the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with the family he loved at his side. With the help of his family, Danny was able to live independently in his own home, where he desperately wanted to be, until he entered the hospital on March 9, 2016. Danny was a son of the late Delina (Roach) and Henry Gallant. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was married to his beloved wife, the late Lucy (Chiasson) Gallant for 66 and a half years. Danny was an extremely proud, conscientious and hardworking coal miner, having worked at #12 and #16 Collieries in New Waterford for 37 years, retiring in 1970. Danny was also a guide at the Miner’s Museum in Glace Bay. He was a faithful and dedicated member of the United Mine Workers of America, at the #12 and #16 Locals and represented his fellow coal miners at numerous mining conventions. He was a devoted William Davis Memorial Day supporter and attended this event as faithfully as possible even at age 99. In his younger years, Danny was active in the local sports scene, especially baseball where he was presiding president over numerous ball clubs such as Little League baseball, amateur ball with New Waterford Strands and N.W. Dodgers, and also pro baseball with local boys and imported players. Danny had been an avid fan of the New Waterford Hawks Softball team. Danny loved nature and the great outdoors, especially gardening, ice fishing and picking thousands of gallons of every berry God provided until the age of 97. He was totally content and peaceful in the solitude of the woods. Above all Danny loved his wife and family. He took tremendous pride in the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Danny treasured and cherished all their visits which were a source of joy and happiness in his life. Danny was a faithful member of the Parish of St. Leonard (formerly Mt. Carmel Church). He was an honorary member of the New Waterford Pensioners Club and a former member of Circle Evangeline French Club. He was once chosen as Citizen of the Week by the New Waterford Community Press. Danny is survived by daughters, Marie Gallant, Caribou River and Viola (Leo) Penny, Lingan and sons, Dr. Charles Gallant (Yvonne), Antigonish, Dr. Wilfred Gallant, Windsor, Ontario and Gerard Gallant, Lower Sackville. Danny’s grandchildren are, Gisele Gallant, Kim Gallant, Jennifer Gallant, Shawna Penny, Mandy Gallant, Dr. Melanie Gallant, Dr. Steve Gallant, Frank Gallant, Robert Penny, Michael Gallant and Darryl Penny. Danny is also survived by great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Rose, Carly, Sophie, Emma, Ceilidh, Lily, Maggie, Maura, Sawyer, Dylan, Cole, Naia, Finnigan, Noah, Connor and Morgan. Danny was predeceased by his wife, Lucy, sons, Joe (Jo-Jo) and Alex and twin daughter, Wilfredine. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Joe and Fidel and sisters, Viola Boudreau, Elizabeth (Liz) AuCoin and Minnie. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass celebrating Danny’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 23, at 1 p.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard Church, New Waterford. Celebrant will be Fr. Ray Huntley assisted by Danny’s son-in-law, Deacon Leo Penny. Burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Carmel Centre following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Nora’s Home for the Disabled c/o Fr. Ray Huntley, and to the An Cala Unit of the CBRH or to a charity of your choice.
