Doyle - 83 yrs Karen (MacKillop) Simmons - James Clifford “Doc” “Cliff” James Clifford O’Toole, also known to many as ‘Doc’ or ‘Cliff,’ aged 63 of St. Catharines, Ont., passed away peacefully at St. Catharines General Hospital on Feb. 26, 2016, with his wife, four children and his brother at his bedside. After a short battle with cancer he left this world to go on to the next. ‘Doc’ was born on Aug. 8, 1952, in Alder Point, Nova Scotia, and was predeceased by his mother, Stella May Payne, and by his father, Lloyd David O’Toole. Loving husband of 44 years to his beloved wife, Donna (Whyte), world’s greatest father who was always so proud of his four children, Jane Magee (Curt) of St. Catharines, Sandi Lanthier (Sylvain) of Guelph, Jamie Scirto (Stephen) of Snyder, N.Y., and Matthew O’Toole (Tara) of Welland. Amazing grandfather to his grandbabies Sam, Jack, Lily, Stephen and Sullivan. Known to them as ‘Papa’, they will miss him dearly, he will forever be in their hearts. He will be dearly missed by his two brothers Paul (Elaine) and Raymond (Sharon). Cliff was an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, father in-law, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle. He will be greatly missed by so many people. He was a fun-loving man who was always joking around, enjoyed playing his guitar and singing while cracking open a cold one. He loved road trips to anywhere with his wife. He lived his life exactly the way he wanted to, all the while he made sure his family was happy and taken care of. He was a hard worker and he gave 100 per cent to everything he did. May you be at peace now and enjoy the party up there! Cremation will take place. A celebration of life will take place at Butler Funeral Home, 424 Niagara St., St. Catharines, on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a service to follow at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, kindly make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society. Thank you to the third floor staff of the oncology unit of St. Catharines General Hospital for his care over the past two months and special thank you to his nurse Jill, a compassionate and loving nurse who anyone would be lucky to have. Wayne Joseph Landry Born In: Sydey Passed in: Sydney Passed on: February 27th, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Landry at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Edward and Audrey (Burke) Landry. Wayne enjoyed the CB Radio, evening drives with Oscar and traveling to his cottage in Poulamond. He is survived by his brother, Norman Landry, Sydney; uncle, Oscar Burke; special cousins, Shaun (Leighann) and Reno (Brenda), many cousins, as well as his fur buddies, Snow White and Tiger. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his grandparents, John and Mary Burke. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March, 3, 2016 at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place Thursday, March, 4, 2016 in the funeral home chapel. Herman Acker Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Sydney Passed on: February 26th, 2016 It is with heavy hearts and fond memories we announce the passing of Herman Acker age 66 of Glace Bay. Herman passed away on Friday, Feb. 26, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay, Herman was the son of the late Francis and Jessie (Hiscock) Acker. Herman loved the water and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He would go out of his way to help anyone and everyone, no matter what the situation. If he could not help them, he would find someone that could. Herman was a kind and caring man. He will be missed by all who knew him. Herman will be sadly missed by his five sisters, one brother, best friend, Duane (Amy) Muise and children. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and by his many friends. Besides his parents, Herman was predeceased by his loving companion, Roxanne, who meant the world to him, one sister and one brother. Phyllis (Livingstone) LeBlanc Born In: Glace Bay Born: November 21st, 1943 Passed in: North Sydney Passed on: February 26th, 2016 We, the family of Phyllis (Livingstone) LeBlanc, 72, of Alder Point, regret to announce her passing on Friday, Feb. 26, 2016, at the Northside General Hospital. Born in Glace Bay on Nov. 21, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Margaret (MacKinnon) Livingstone. She is survived by her son, Cameron; granddaughter, Danika; brothers, Bernie and Andrew and sister, Barbara, all of Ontario. There will be no visitation. Funeral services to follow at a later date. Mary Veronica Ferguson Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: February 27th, 2016 Mary Veronica Ferguson, 97, passed away on Feb. 27, 2016 at Seaview Manor Home for Special Care in Glace Bay, N.S. Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Ronald and Catherine (MacGillivary) MacIntosh. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Charles, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was also predeceased by six sisters, Bessie MacKinnon, Peg Haley, Francis Crosby, Jessie MacKenzie, Theresa MacKay and Sadie Sehl, along with three brothers, Joe, John and Stephen. At the age of 18, Mary travelled to the Boston area to help her sister, Peg, raise her three children. Later, Mary moved to Toronto where she worked for the Eaton Company. After more than 20 years in Toronto, Mary and Charles relocated to the Boston area. There she held a variety of jobs and finally retired from the Gillette Company. After retirement, Mary and Charles moved to St. Catharines, Ont., where they spent many happy years. Following the death of Charles, Mary returned to Glace Bay where she created many more happy memories with family members and continued to spend many winters in Florida. Mary had a great love for, and dedication to, friends and family. She was predeceased by many cherished friends and is survived by numerous, loving nieces and nephews throughout Canada and the United States of America. Mary’s love of life and ability to tell a joke will not soon be forgotten. She could light up a room with her beauty, smile, and infectious personality. Thank you to the Newfoundland ladies and the staff of Seaview Manor for providing care to Mary for the past seven years. There is no visitation by request. Doyle Born In: Inverness, Canada Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: February 25th, 2016 Albert A. Doyle, of Halifax, born 1932 in Inverness, Cape Breton, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Feb. 25, 2016. Albert was the son of the late Victor & Margaret (Currie) Doyle, and husband of Mary Agnes (MacKinnon). He is survived by his children, Ann Marie (Stuart) Moors, Neil (Bernadette), Margaret (Luc) Brisson, Janice (Larry) Jones, Darlene (Dougal) MacAulay, Rose (late John) MacLellan, Gerard (Barry) and Michelle, as well as 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Monica (late Frank) Sullivan, Ann (Danny) Briand, Charlotte (Albert) Tanguay, Rosalie (Dave) Lionais & brothers Anslem (Marie), Russell, and John (Sandra). Albert owned a barbershop on Charlotte Street in Sydney for many years, then went on to operate his own trucking business before retiring from DND in Halifax. He was an avid card player, with a special affinity for tarbish, crib and a good cup of tea. Karen (Mackillop) Simmons Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: February 25th, 2016 It is with sadness and broken hearts we announce the passing of our mother, Karen Simmons on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016 at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John and Hilda (Power) Mackillop. Karen graduated as a Certified Nursing Assistant in 1967 and worked at the GB General Hospital. She was an extremely thoughtful kind hearted soul who was always the life of the party. She loved to bowl and was a member of the 350 club. She was a great cook and baker. Her specialties were homemade bread, tea biscuits and diabetic goodies. For over twenty years, Karen and Leanne enjoyed Saturday outings together. She will be sadly missed by her children, Scott (Carla), Leanne (Mike); siblings, Donnie (Donna), George (Lorraine), Gordon, Willie (Marguerite), Marlyn as well as Uncle Angus Mackillop and many good friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Leo and brother, Roddie. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of Curry’s Glace Bay Funeral Home.
