William Roy Murphy Born In: Port Morien Born: March 31st, 1922 Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: February 26th, 2016 William Roy Murphy passed away peacefully at Taigh Na Mara Nursing Home in Glace Bay on Feb. 26, 2016. He was born in Port Morien, Cape Breton County on March 31, 1922 and was the son of William Alexander Murphy and Catherine Morrison. His greatest loves were his best friend Kathleen and his eight children. As his family grew, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren became the centre of his universe. He worked for 40 years for Devco in Glace Bay as an iron worker and a carpenter. He enjoyed travelling with his family especially to P.E.I., loved family gatherings the more in the house the merrier. He always had a carpentry project on the go or some other repair work for family members. William is a veteran of the Second World War, he was member of the Calgary Highlanders and served in England, Holland, Germany and Belgium. Besides his love for his family, William was a great fiddler and was a member of the Billy Murphy Orchestra in his youth. William is survived by his wife of 73 years, Kathleen Wadden; brother, Sonny; children, Marguerite (Willie), Vivian (Bob), Tricia (Rick), Karen, Florence (Ron), Bill (Audrey), Joyce (Charles), Kevin (Genevieve). His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Craig, Chris, Cathy, Sheryl, Annette, Ryan, Lynne, Laura, Charles, Liam, Jordan, Justin, Caitlin and his great-grandchildren, Emilie, Addison, Sophie, Liam, Paige, Claire and the newest addition Liam. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his infant daughter, Annette; son-in-law, Danny Maddox; brothers, James, Courtney, Byron, Donnie, Robert and sisters, Lima, Alice, Iris and Jean. Visitation will be on Monday, Feb. 29, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1st, at St Mary’s Church, Port Morien. The Rev. Norman MacPhee will be officiating. The interment will follow in the parish cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. MacLean for his professionalism and care of dad the past four years. Gladys Christina (MacDonald) Henry Passed on: February 25th, 2016 We regret to announce mom's passing on Feb. 25, 2016. Though she endured a lengthy illness mom maintained her faith in God's promise of everlasting life on a restored paradise earth, and she shared this promise with others at every opportunity. Left to mourn are son, Jesse (Wendy) Henry and daughters, Debbie Henry-Horton (Daniel) and Rachel Henry. Mom was proud of her three grandchildren, Brandi Boylen (Luke), Amanda Benoit (Jeremy) and Jacob Henry. Mom adored her five precious great-grandchildren, Charlee, Kiara, Eli, Zeke and Jude. Also surviving are sisters, Mary Camus, Barbara Cameron, Laura Dyck; sister-in-law, Patricia McDonald and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mon had many special and lifelong friends who are too numerous to mention. Her faith and strength was often an example to many during her illness and the many years she cared for our father during his. Besides parents Neil and Laura (Summerell) McDonald, mom was predeceased by our father, Frederick Henry and her siblings, Shirley and Tom. Margaret McDonald Born: February 9th, 1918 Passed in: Bedford, Canada Passed on: February 25th, 2016 At the age of 98, it is with gratitude for her life and sadness for the loss , we announce the passing of our wonderful mother, grandmother ,great-grandmother and friend Margaret McDonald on February 25, 2016 at Ivany Place, Bedford. Margaret was born on Feb. 9, 1918 to Ambrose White and Maryann Murphy. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Angus (Gussie) and daugher, Sharon Murphy; sister, Essie MacDonald; brothers, Otto and Joe White. Margaret graduated from the Halifax Infirmary in 1939 and worked in the Merchant Marine there for a time. After her marriage to Gussie, they lived in New Waterford, where she was a member of the nursing and teaching staff of the New Waterford General Hospital. She belonged to the Cape Breton Artist Association and loved to paint in oils, watercolors and acrylic, as well as doing paper tole. She was an avid bridge player and played up to a few years ago and loved a good game of Auction. She was a member of the CWL of Mount Carmel Parish and loved to attend the Aging Gracefully group. Margaret and Gus enjoyed exploring Nova Scotia in their van as well as spending summers in their beloved North Side East Bay. She is survived by her two daughters, Marilyn Kliza (Michael) and Marybeth Parris (Harry); grandchildren, Karen, Sean, Deborah, Geoff, Robert, Angie and Cora. She was very proud of her great-grandchildren, Jocelynne, Samantha, Sebastian, Claudia, Elena, Noah, Anthony, Autumn and Caitlin. She is survived by her sister, Mary Spencer and sister-in-law, Kaye Taylor, as well as many neices and nephews and special friends, Willena and Lorne MacDonald, Donna and Bernie VanDoninck and Sue Dixon. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Mar. 1, 2016 from 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Wednesday, Mar. 2 at 1 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Her family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Ivany Place for their wonderful friendship, co Heather Cavell (Lewis) Poulain Born In: Sydney Passed in: Sydney Passed on: February 25th, 2016 It is with profound sadness that we, the family, regret to announce the peaceful passing of our beloved sister, Heather Cavell (Lewis) Poulain at the age of 65. Heather passed away on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, after a brief but very courageous battle with cancer on the An Cala unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her family by her side. Born in Sydney, Heather was the eldest daughter of the late Allister and Effie (MacDougall) Lewis. Heather was employed with the Cove Guest Home in Sydney; she took pride in her work and thoroughly enjoyed visiting and spending time with each resident. Heather formed many friendships throughout her life which was evident throughout her illness as her room quite often overflowed with visitors. Heather was predeceased by her parents and her brother, George. She is survived by her companion, Bernie Farrell; her sisters, Bonnie Holland (John), Coxheath, Kimberly MacDonald (John),Sydney; brothers, Gary (Karen), Howie Center and Donnie, Oshawa Ont. Heather was a special aunt to five nephews, two nieces and various great nieces and nephews. She took great pleasure in the company of her two fur babies, “Baby girl” and “Tigger”. She was also fortunate to share the friendship of, Joan MacPhee and Margaret MacIntyre, her card game buddies. Heather requested that any donations in her memory be made to the Cape Breton branch of the SPCA as well as the An Cala unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Margaret Cameron Born In: New Waterford Passed in: Sydney Passed on: February 25th, 2016 It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret Cameron, 85, on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Angus and Maragaret (MacDonald) Cameron. Due to health issues, Margaret lived in the care of a group home for most of her adult life. Despite these issues, she was able to live a long and meaningful life. Margaret loved to sing and the residents called her the entertainer of the recreation room. She was also known to be a very religious and spiritual woman. Maragret was adored and will be missed by all. Surviving are stepsister, Ann (Gerry) O'Quinn, Timberlea; five nephews, Daniel (Ivy), Cameron (Karen), Bernie (Doreen), Kenny (Betty), Angus (Melanie); one niece, Cathy (Teddy). She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her stepmother, Catherine MacDonald; sisters, Mary, in infancy and Catherine; brother, Alexander, in infancy; brother-in-law, Kenneth. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Northside Community Guest Home for their fantastic care of Margaret over the years. They were like a second family to her and will never be forgotten. There will be no visitation. A funeral mass of celebration will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Joe Gillis officiating and first cousin, Fr. Online condolences to the family can Wayne McClure Born In: Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada Passed on: February 24th, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Wayne William McClure, age 73, of St. Ann’s, N.S., on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016. Born in Moncton, N.B., he was a son of the late Bill and Flo McClure. In his youth, Wayne was an avid lover of the drums and spent many enjoyable years with the Moncton High School Air Cadet 101 Squadron Band as a snare drummer. While in school, he was also a member of the Student Militia and served in the 2RNBR Corp. He then joined the reserves, serving in the RCEME Corp. Wayne decided to enter the tire business with BF Goodrich Tire Canada Ltd. in Moncton. He progressed from a territory manager for Nova Scotia to a national sales manager position and was part of the senior management group at their head office in Kitchener, Ont. His final years in the tire business were spent with Michelin Tires Canada in Montreal, Que., as a national sales manager of private and custom brands sales and also served on their senior management team. He had many fond memories of the people and companies he was associated with during his 30 year career in the tire business. Wayne met his partner in life, Frances MacLeod, in Dartmouth, N.S. and they were married for 41 years. He loved her for her support, ethics, musical talents as a Gr.1 piper, and being his soulmate throughout their married life. During his career, they lived in Kitchener-Waterloo and Oakville, Ont., as well as St. Lazare, Que. Wayne was a skeet shooter and an avid golfer, having played some of the best courses in North America. Later in life, he took up oil painting as a hobby. He will be remembered for his friendly and outgoing manner and endless storytelling. After retiring from their careers, they moved to St. Ann’s, N.S., where they built and operated Luckenbooth Bed & Breakfast. Wayne was a member of Ephraim Scott Presbyterian Church, South Haven, N.S. and served as chair of the Board of Managers. He was a Mason at St. Mark’s Lodge, Baddeck, a member of the Philae Shriners, a member of the Stewards of St. Ann’s Association, and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Baddeck, N.S. Wayne is survived by his loving wife and partner, Frances (MacLeod); brother, Peter; sisters, Deborah Browne, Moncton, N.B. and Wendy Marney, Riverview, N.B.; sister-in-law, Frances MacLeod, Stoney Creek, Ont. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews residing in Canada and the USA. Besides his parents, Wayne was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, John and George MacLeod and Ron Marney; sisters-in-law, Evelyn MacLeod and Pat McClure. There will be no visitation and cremation has taken place. A Masonic service will be held prior to the memorial service held at Ephraim Scott Presbyterian Church, South Haven at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, with Rev. Brian MacLeod officiating. Reception to follow at South Haven Community Hall. Interment will take place at Hardwood Hill Cemetery, Sydney, at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Ephraim Scott Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
