She was predeceased by her parents Alex Joe and Elizabeth (Shibby) MacDonald; brother Gerry; and sister Anita. She is survived by her five children: Lynn, Paul (Shannon), Beth (Kerr), Bruce (Kumiko), and Jill (Kevin); her brothers Wally (Elaine) and Arthur (Charlotte); sister Marguerite (Lorne); and sister-in-law Lorraine. Nannie was adored by her nine grandchildren: Catherine, Kolton and Malcolm, Bella and Willie, Reina, Yuna and Kouta, and Branden. She will also be missed dearly by her many nieces, nephews and friends. Mom was a shining example to us all. She gave selflessly as a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, nurse and friend. Her countless acts of kindness will be remembered by many. She loved to knit, bake and the "fudge fairy" was known to provide many a "fix" for her loyal addicts. She was an avid Leafs, Blue Jays and curling fan; however, her loudest cheers were saved for her children and grandchildren. Family flowers only please. ETHERIDGE It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Mary Johnstone, North East Margaree, March 18th, 2016 at Inverary Manor, Inverness. The last two years Mary made the Manor her home where she loved having visitors and doing crosswords. She was born in Scotland on October 23rd, 1924, the daughter of the late William and Annie Muir. At a very young age Mary arrived in Antigonish but spent the last 70 years in North East Margaree. Mary was very involved in her community, was a volunteer for many different organizations and was a member of multiple Wilson United Church groups. She is survived by her only son Eric, North East Margaree; sisters Annie, Margaret (Tommy), Emma (Bill); brother Bill (Judy); grandchildren Karl, Aleshya, Hunter (Corina), Desdamona, Etheridge; and great-grandchildren Brady and Maryella. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband Thomas; her sister Betty and her brother Jim. Remembering Mary daily are her late husband`s siblings who Mary loved dearly: Lila, Abbie, Rena and Harry (Evelyn). Funeral service was held at Wilson United Church, Wednesday, March 23rd, 2016 with DLM Dale Crawford officiating. Burial will be at a later date. DYKES On March 16th, 2016, Harry Dykes of Inverness, NS left us peacefully to join his parents, the late Henry Dykes and Katherine (Hobson) Dykes, and his sister Gladys Sutherland. Harry accomplished a lot everywhere he was employed and had volunteered in the community. He never lost his ability to have a good rapport with his co-workers. He opened his heart and his home to anyone. His joy, his laughter, his love to sing and dance, his cribbage games and his fondness of old black and white movies will surely be missed. It was always his hope that he left his family in good hands. He leaves behind his sons Larry Lariviere (Lisa) and Alan Dykes; daughters Ann Savaglio (Frank) and Aileen Comacho (George); grandchildren Jamey Lariviere, Tina Lariviere, Lee Savaglio, Jeff Savaglio, Steven Savaglio, Kristin Comacho and Josh Comacho; great-grandchild Dante Savaglio; his many nieces and nephews, their spouses and families and last, but not least, his loving wife Lorraine (Walker) Dykes. DeGENNARO Marjorie Laverne (Hawley) Degennaro – Marjorie was born in Glendyer, near Mabou, on August 12th, 1927, the second oldest child of 11, born to Araunah “Arie” and Anna Hawley. She grew up in Port Hood and worked as a cook and a nanny in Montreal and Halifax before moving to Brooklyn, New York, where she met and married her husband, Tony DeGennaro, in 1957. They had one son, Paul. A lifelong Jehovah’s Witness, she served her God faithfully for 71 years. Her strong belief in the near future resurrection on a paradise earth when Christ's Kingdom rules enabled her to cope with adversity and death. Marjorie was 88 years of age when she passed away peacefully on Friday, March 4th, 2016 due to end-stage renal failure. She is survived by her loyal and loving husband Tony; son Paul and his wife Maureen; brother Roy Hawley; sisters Audrey DeVanney and Glenna Jamieson; many nieces and nephews; and the Miller and Hawley cousins. Besides her parents, previously lost in death are her sisters Violet, Wanda and Treva and brothers Carl, Russell, James and David. A largely attended memorial service was held for Marjorie in Brooklyn on March 12th, 2016. CAMERON Margaret Angela Cameron, age 46. It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our precious "Mabou Angel". Angie passed away peacefully on Monday, March 21st, 2016 in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Angela was born on February 1st, 1970 and leaves behind her mother Donna and stepfather Danny MacIsaac; grandparents Jessie and Bernard Cameron; brothers Jason (Christine) and Bobby; sister Buffy; aunt and uncles Dan (Candy), Leo (Jessie), Debbie (Allan), Frankie (Helene), Farrell (Tracey); special friend Hughie MacDonald, nieces and nephews. Our special Angel was all about family, love, kindness and compassion. She was very proud of her jobs at the Freshmart and The Red Shoe. She was very dedicated and efficient in everything she did. Visitation will be held in the Vestry of St. Mary's Church, Mabou on Sunday March 27th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Mabou with Fr. Online condolences may be made to www.invernessfuneralhome.com. AUCOIN Mr. Wilfred J. Aucoin, of Marlborough, formerly of Waltham died Friday, January 22nd, 2016 in Wingate at Sudbury. He was 96. Wilfred was born May 25th, 1919 in North Weymouth, a son of the late John and Lucy Ann (LeBlanc) Aucoin. His family then moved back to their native Canada and he returned to the States at age 19 where he settled in Fitchburg before moving to Waltham and lastly to Marlborough in 1981. During World War II he served with the Merchant Marine including one tour of duty off the North African coast. On November 9th, 1947 Wilfred married Doris M. Doucette and they shared more than 28 years together before her death on January 31st, 1976. Wilfred was a self-employed contractor and for over 20 years worked for the Archdiocese of Boston at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham and at Saint Patrick's Cemetery in Watertown before retiring. He enjoyed his membership in the French-American Victory Club and the friendships that ensued, ice skating, watching New England sports, traveling, visits to York Beach in Maine and trips home to Belle Cote, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. In addition to his wife Doris, he was predeceased by his siblings Thomas Aucoin, Marie Moore, Constance "Gus" Aucoin, and William Aucoin. He leaves his children Joyce A. Kasica and her husband Kent of Boulder, Colorado; Brenda M. Grenier and her husband Russell of Palm Coast, Florida; and Paul J. Aucoin and his wife Annmarie of North Attleborough; his grandchildren Adam Grenier, Alyssa and Joseph Aucoin; his siblings Elsie Frontain and her husband Gil of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Richard Aucoin of Waltham and Fred Aucoin of California and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends honoured and remembered Wilfred's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, in Waltham on Thursday, January 28th and again on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, Waltham where his funeral Mass was celebrated. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. RANKIN Sister Marcella Rankin, formerly Sister Ann Florence, 87, a Sister of St. Martha of Antigonish, died at Bethany on March 13th, 2016. She was in the 57th year of her religious life. Born in Mabou, NS, Marcella was the second youngest in a family of eight children born to William and Catherine (Beaton) Rankin. Sister Marcella entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha on August 15th, 1957. She pronounced her first temporary vows on August 15th, 1959 and her perpetual vows on August 15th, 1962. Sister obtained her Teacher’s License, Provincial Normal College, Truro, and her Art Teacher License, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. For 25 years Marcella was involved in the teaching ministry in Bras d’Or and Eskasoni, NS; Kamloops and Maple Lake, BC; and Lethbridge, AB. She served as a pastoral minister in Canso, Inverness, St. Andrews, and Waycobah First Nation, NS and St. Paul’s River, QC. She also served on the Bethany Leadership Team. Sister Marcella was a woman who lived a life of simplicity; a lover of nature who delighted in gazing on the ocean while in prayer, especially at Mabou Harbour. She had a strong Celtic heart and took great pleasure in listening to Scottish music. She was close to her family and the many people she encountered during her ministry, and fondly remembered by her fellow teachers. She is survived by sister Flora Catherine MacLellan; her sister-in-law and special friend Christy Rankin, and many nieces and nephews who were very important to her in her life. Besides her parents, Sister Marcella was predeceased by an infant sister and brother; brothers Kenneth Finlay, Angus Willie, Finlay Archie and Alex Hughie. The remains rested at Bethany beginning Wednesday, March 16th. A Celebration of Vigil was held that same evening. Liturgy of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, March 17th in Bethany Chapel. AUCOIN Paul Emile Aucoin, age 72, of 91 LeFort Road, Cheticamp, passed away March 13th, 2016, at home. Born in Cheticamp, son of the late Leo C. and Marie Anne (Aucoin) Aucoin. He was a former Department of Fisheries officer for 33 years. He was a proud member of the Cheticamp Volunteer Fire Department; member and past Grand Knight of the Cheticamp Knights of Columbus, Council 3850 and a member of the Cheticamp Legion Branch 32. He was a proud and loving godfather to Erica Boudreau and Roy Aucoin. He was an avid picker of wild berries, bingo player, crib player and he enjoyed playing Auction 25 with family and friends. He played golf and enjoyed watching television. As all family and friends can attest to, he was a major fan of the Acadian mid-Lent feast Mi-Careme. Both he and his wife, Marie Louise, welcomed the mi-careme in their home for the past 47 years. Surviving are wife Marie Louise (Boudreau) Aucoin; brothers David (Irene) Aucoin, Joseph Henrie (Gloria) Aucoin and Roger (Betty) Aucoin, all of Cheticamp; sister Lena (Gerald Bourgeois) LeBlanc, Cheticamp; sisters-in-law Elizabeth Aucoin and Bonnie Boudreau; brother-in-law Clarence (Albertine) Boudreau and also by nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his stepmother Elizabeth Aucoin; brother Pierre; brother-in-law Alphonse Boudreau; and sister-in law Monique Aucoin. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service was held on Friday, March 18th in St. Peter's Cemetery, Cheticamp. Burial in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
