Inverness Oran Deaths courtesy of CAPE BRETON GENEALOGY & HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION VISIT OUR WEBSITE - <http://www.cbgen.org/ <http://www.cbgen.org/>>www.cbgen.org <http://www.cbgen.org/> NEW MEMBERS WELCOM Inverness Oran Obits March 30, 2016 Wednesday There were 4 obituaries published today MACPHAIL, DUNCAN ALEXANDER - 68 YRS LEBLANC, GERALD JOSEPH - 65 YRS CHIASSON (POIRIER), MARIE EUNICE - 88 YRS STOKLAS, MIROSLAV “MIREK" - YRS MacPHAIL Duncan Alexander MacPhail, age 68, River Denys, Inverness Co., passed away on Sunday, March 20th, 2016, in the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Born in Inverness, he was a son of Helen “Ella” (Morrison) MacPhail and the late Lewis MacPhail. Duncan was a self-employed trucker for many years. He also worked for MacKenzie Bros. Construction for several years and retired from the Department of Transportation in 2013. Duncan was always the family “go to” guy for any project and his skillfulness will be sorely missed. He was a member of River Denys Presbyterian Church. Besides his mother, Duncan is survived by sisters Mary Louise (Frank) Miller, Virginia Pearl (Sandy) MacLennan, Hazel (Maurice) Foster, Helen (Philip) Leonard; brothers Raymond, Peter (Phyllis), Morris (Brenda), Harold (Betty); and sister-in-law Millie; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Warren, Cornelius and Harold Wilbert. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 30th from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31st at River Denys Presbyterian Church with Rev. Andrew MacDonald officiating, assisted by Rev. Wayne MacLeod. Burial will follow in Upper River Denys Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations in Duncan’s memory may be made to Central Inverness County Palliative Care (Patient Fund). LeBLANC Gerald Joseph LeBlanc, age 65, Petit Etang, Inverness County, passed away on March 21st, 2016, in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp, after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Cheticamp, he was a son of Luce Colombe (Bourgeois) LeBlanc and the late Wilfred LeBlanc. Gerald graduated from high school in Cheticamp and the Forestry School in Fredericton, NB. He trained and worked as a boilermaker in Alberta for many years. He was pleased to be able to retire in Cheticamp where he could enjoy many hours trout fishing at the “Buttereau" and going out on the ocean with his friends. Gerald was an avid sports fan and a true supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs. We are thankful that he was able to watch the Superbowl 2016 with his friends. Surviving are his mother; daughter Jenny (Nik) Lemieux; granddaughter Sylvie Lemieux of Edmonton, AB; sisters Annette (Armand) Fiset, Cheticamp and Rachelle, Halifax; nephew Donald Fiset; niece Nadine Whalen and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Gerald had a great circle of friends who remained loyal throughout his illness. The body was cremated. Funeral Mass was held on Monday, March 28th, 2016, in Eglise Saint-Pierre de Cheticamp. CHIASSON Marie Eunice (Poirier) Chiasson, age 88, Cheticamp, passed away on March 22nd, 2016, in Foyer Pere Fiset, Cheticamp. Born in Cheticamp, she was a daughter of the late Pitre and Hélène (Aucoin) Poirier. Mom worked many years at Sacred Heart Hospital on the housekeeping staff. She was a devoted Catholic. Mom's best times were spent with her children and grandchildren. Humour was a great part of her life; laughter was the best medicine. Her kindness and giving heart led to a path of great friends. Mom was a proud member of Les Femmes Acadiennes and the Senior Citizens Club. Surviving are daughters Darlene (Claudius), Lola (Derek), and Claudia (Adalbert); brothers Arthur, Semi John (Laurette), and David (Hilda); sisters Olive and Amelia (Paul); grandchildren Amy Jo (Trevor), Dale (Andrea), Miranda (Tony), Alexandra (Justin), Janelle (John) and Christien (Kelly); and great-grandchildren Hayden and Emma Hendsbee. Predeceased by brothers Hubert, Xavier, Alex Joe, Wilfred, Anselme and Alphonse; sisters Elizabeth, Marie Flora, Annie Belle, Helene Rose and Marie Edna. The body rested at Cheticamp Funeral Home. STOKLAS Miroslav (Mirek) Stoklas passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 20th, 2016, in Cheticamp one week before his 80th birthday. He was the son of the late Frantisek and Frantiska (Halickova) Stoklas. He was born in Petrov, Czech Republic and moved to Canada in 1968. He worked as an electrical engineering technologist (mostly in Atlantic and Eastern Canada) and made his home in Mulgrave and Port Hood. He is survived by two sisters in the Czech Republic: Jirina (Jan) Michelovia and Marie (Jan) Stankova; also by his brother Josef (Luise) Stoklas in Montreal; several nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. His body will be cremated and his ashes will be shipped to his hometown Petrov, Czech Republic for interment, as per his request. Special thanks to the staff and residents of Foyer Pere Fiset for the love and kindness shown to him during his stay there.
