Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Bernie ‘Papa’ and Frances ‘Nanny’ (Hill) MacPhee. Debi spent her earlier years in East Bay and later moved to her favourite place in the world, Christmas Island. She had a great love for her family, friends, the outdoors, crafts and stock car racing, tea and her cats. She took a special interest in Gaelic language and culture and was also a Gaelic instructor. Her job as senior animator and costume coordinator at the Highland Village Museum was very special to her and she left for work every day with a smile on her face. Debi is survived by her husband and best friend, Joseph; daughter Shannon Beag (Patrick MacInnis); son Hector (Nekole Surette); precious granddaughter Salerah; sisters Bev (Danny) Neville, Linda Nickerson and brother Bernie (Judy) MacPhee and her beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to blood relatives, Debi is survived by many other people that she shared a deep connection. She was predeceased by her sisters, Sylvia ‘Dodo’, Nancy and Frankie. Visitation for Debi will be held on Monday, February 29 from 2-8 pm at the Christmas Island Fire Hall. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 1pm at St. Andrew’s Church, Boisdale with Rev. Paul Abbass and Rev. Joe Ambrose MacNeil concelebrating. Interment in St. Barra Cemetery, Christmas Island. A sincere thank you is extended to the doctors, nurses and staff of the ICU of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital from the MacNeil family. Kelson 'Angus' Fitzgerald Born In: White Point Born: November 15th, 1926 Passed on: February 24th, 2016 With saddened hearts, we announce the passing of Angus on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016. Born in White Point on Nov. 15, 1926, he was the son of the late Emery and Mary (MacIntosh) Fitzgerald. Angus leaves behind his daughter, Aldona, Debbie and Jacqueline and his sons, Austin, Wayne, Russell, Donnie, Bobby and Rodger. Also left to mourn are his sisters, Eliza Dixon, Peggie Purdy, Doris Fraser and Joyce Brown and brothers, John (Alex), Tim, Hugh and Darryl, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Jenny; daughter, Irene; sons, Carson, Lee and Bruce; sisters, Joan and Marie and stepmother, Mary. Germaine Helen Baylis Born In: Grand Etang Born: December 26th, 1924 Passed in: North Sydney Passed on: February 23rd, 2016 It is with great sadness and fond memories we, the family, announce the passing of our dear sister and aunt, Germaine Helen Baylis at the Northside General Hospital on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016. Born in Grand Etang on Dec. 26, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Cormier) Aucoin. At an early age she moved to Reserve Mines where she spent her childhood years. After spending most of her adult life in Toronto and following her husband Bob’s death, she moved to Sydney to be near her family who meant so much to her. Germaine was a faithful member of St. Anthony Daniel parish until ill health required her to take up residence at Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford and later at Northside Community Guest Home. Germaine is survived by her brothers, Arthur (Doris), Leonard (Elma); sisters-in-law, Mabel and Diane, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Germaine was predeceased by her loving husband, Bob in 1990; siblings, Mary, Sabine, Isabel, Dominic, Alphonse and Francis. Visitation and funeral service for Germaine will be held on Monday, Feb. 29 with visitation beginning at 2 p.m. immediately followed by funeral service at 3 p.m. in T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel with Rev. Lewis 'Big Lew' Gregory Fahey Born In: Sydney Mines Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: February 25th, 2016 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Lewis 'Big Lew' Gregory Fahey, at the age of 65. Lewis died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born and raised in Sydney Mines, Lewis was the son of the late Patrick and Muriel (Jessome) Fahey. Lewis joined the Canadian Armed Forces at the age of 17 years, and was a proud member of the Black Watch (Royal Canadian Regiment) of Canada, during which time he served overseas, in Cyprus, doing peacekeeping duties. He had been employed at Michelin Tire in New Glasgow, terminal supervisor with Purolator Courier in Sydney for 16 years, owned and operated “Big Lew’s Convenience” in Sydney Mines, and had been a taxi driver in Sydney. Lewis was an avid fisherman, he loved to fish, especially in the “Fahey Pool” in front of his late brother Patrick’s cottage on the Margaree River. Lewis will be sadly missed and is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Maureen (Tait); daughter, Julie Ann; son, Kevin, both of Glace Bay; grandsons, Cody and Jaxon, who he loved and adored very much. He is also survived by his sisters, Ella Mayeu, Glace Bay, Laura Chiasson, Innisfil, Frances McInnis, Medicine Hat, Rita (Alan Found), Berwick, and Ann (Michael Ley), Louisbourg; his brother, Gerard, Medicine Hat; brother-in-law, Lorne Tait (Lynn), Ontario; sisters-in-law, Sarah Ann, Sydney Mines, Ketha (Bill), Ontario and Joanne (Michael), Halifax, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Alice Butts; brothers, Bill, Leonard, Patrick and Michael; his brothers-in-law, Andre Mayeu, Ernest Butts, Michael Chiasson and Reid Tait and his sister-in-law, Minnie (Bates) Fahey.
