McNeil - Lilian Dorothy (Quarry) Cheetham - 71 yrs Paul Joseph DesVeaux - Levi Albert Evans - 73 yrs Isabel MacInnis - 94 yrs Sister Carmelita (Michael Marie) Currie - 84 yrs John Glen MacAulay - 46 yrs Frederick Morrison Campbell - 93 yrs Ina Loretta (MacQueen) MacDonald - 87 yrs Helen Veronica Roach - 94 yrs Sister Carmelita (Michael Marie) Currie Born In: Reserve Born: March 21st, 1931 Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: March 8th, 2016 Sister Carmelita (Michael Marie) Currie, 84, died in Caritas Residence, Halifax, N.S. on March 8, 2016. Born in Reserve, N.S. on March 21, 1931, she was a daughter of Michael and Mary (Finnell) Currie. Sister Carmelita entered the Sisters of Charity - Halifax, on Sept. 8, 1949 and made her final vows on August 15, 1958. She received a BSEd and a BA from Mount Saint Vincent University. She began her ministry as an educator when she spent a few months teaching in Havre Boucher, N.S., in 1952. She then was missioned to Brooklyn, N.Y., where she taught for four years. At the end of that time, she returned to Havre Boucher in 1956 and remained there until 1957, followed by two years of teaching in Lourdes, N.S. From 1959 to 1966 she taught in Oxford School, Halifax. Sister Carmelita then moved to Dorval, Que., where she taught elementary school until 1974. In that year, she began teaching high school in Dorval and began her work in caring for foster boys, a work she continued until 1991. She also volunteered as a driver for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Later, she moved to Sillery, Que., where she volunteered in St. Brigid’s Home for several years. In 1998, she returned to Halifax and resided in Mount Saint Vincent Motherhouse, where she coordinated the transportation needs of the retired sisters, a work she continued until 2015 when her health deteriorated to the point where she could no longer sustain her schedule. Sister Carmelita is survived by her sister, Ursula (Michael) Macdonald, Reserve Mines; sisters-in-law, Anna, New Waterford and Cecilia, Reserve Mines and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Theresa Amadio and Angie Campbell; by her brothers, Rev. Reginald Currie, Michael, Basil and John (Jake). The body will be in Caritas Residence on Thursday, March 10, with visitation from 3 p.m. until the Prayer Service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 11, at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Chapel in Caritas Residence. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville, N.S. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Charity Ministry Fund. John Glen MacAulay Born In: New Waterford Passed in: North Bay, Ontario, Canada Passed on: March 4th, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of John Glen MacAulay on March 4, 2016, at the age of 46. Born in New Waterford , he was the youngest son of the late Gordon and Mary ( Sheppard) MacAulay. He is survived by brothers, Gordon (Rose), Alvin (Gina), Steven (Margaret); sister, Susan (Frank) MacNamara, all of New Waterford, Lynn (Barry) Young of Sydney; children, Glen Jr. and Maddilynn, of North Bay, Ont., as well as many nieces and nephews. Glen was predeceased by his sister, Marion and brother, Jeffrey; as well as grandparents, John and Marion Sheppard and Mary and John MacAulay. There will be no visitation. Burial and service will take place at a later date in North Bay. Frederick Morrison Campbell Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: March 6th, 2016 It is with great sadness and love of our Dad, that we announce the passing of a wonderful and sincere man; a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. Fred, age 93, passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side on Sunday, March 6, 2016, in the palliative care unit of the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Malcolm and Florence (Gertsch) Campbell. He was a member of the former St. Anthony’s Church, and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Fred was a long time employee of Devco, working in #11, 1B and retired from #26, in 1977. He was a true outdoorsman, he loved the sport of fly fishing, and he was a licensed guide on the Margaree River for sport fisherman; he will be remembered and missed by many of them throughout North America. He also enjoyed tying flies, hunting and his times spent as a coach for minor hockey and as a leader with Scouts Canada. He loved hockey, and to say he was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan would be a great understatement. Fred also enjoyed his conversations with all of his friends and family, regarding his life stories of times fishing, hunting and about sports, especially his Maple Leafs. But his fondest conversations were always with or about his best and closest friend, Wayne Boland. Frederick is survived by his loving family; daughters, Linda (Kenny) Kennedy, Glace Bay; Heather (Terry) MacMullin, Beaverbank, N.S.; Gail Courtney, Paradise, Nfld.; Janice (Freddie) Mitchell, Glace Bay, with whom he resided the past four years; sons, Frederick (Ramona), Glace Bay; Barry (Karen), Calgary, Alta.; Derrill (Anita), Reserve Mines; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kay Hannigan, New Waterford; nieces, nephews and numerous friends. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Henrietta (Doyle); grandsons, Frederick Robert Courtney, and Frederick Michael Mitchell in infancy; brother, George; sister, Violet 'Puggie' MacDonald and son-in-law, Henry Courtney. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 10th, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Norman MacPhee will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Interment will be at a later date in St. Anthony’s Parish Cemetery, Glace Bay. Memorial donations in Dad’s memory may be made to Palliative Care Unit at the Glace Bay Hospital. Ina Loretta (MacQueen) MacDonald Born In: Round Island Born: July 12th, 1928 Passed in: North Sydney Passed on: March 7th, 2016 We regret to announce the passing at the Northside General Hospital, on March 7, 2016, of Ina Loretta (MacQueen) MacDonald. Born in Round Island on July 12, 1928, she was the daughter of Annie (Campbell) and John MacQueen. Wife of the late Norman MacDonald, Sydney, Ina was a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home since June 2012. Prior to that, she and Norman were longtime residents of Sydney’s Northend. Having trained at the Grace Hospital in Halifax, Ina worked in the maternity ward at St. Rita Hospital. She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Sydney and the Louisbourg-Ceilidh Chapter IODE. Ina is survived by her daughter, Lorena, Dartmouth; son, Murdock and daughter-in-law, Heather, Marion Bridge; and her pride and joy, granddaughters, Maggie and Molly. She is also survived by sisters, Annie (Mike) Penny and Effie (Donald) Ferguson; sister-in-law, Jean MacQueen and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Norman, Ina was predeceased by her brother, Donald (wife Myra); sister, Margaret; brother, James and nephew, John. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church on Friday 11 a.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle and Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Interment in Black Brook Cemetery at a later date. Helen Veronica Roach Born In: New Waterford Born: March 10th, 1921 Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: March 7th, 2016 Helen Veronica Roach, March 10, 1921–March 7, 2016, of Melville Lodge, Halifax, N.S. formerly of New Waterford passed away peacefully, of natural causes, surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late John James and Mary Ann (McCormick) MacDonald. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Joseph A. Roach (Sept. 5, 2005); sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Roach (Sept. 1, 2015); sisters, Anne MacDonald, Mary E. (Mish) Power; brothers, Bernie MacDonald, Angus MacDonald and John MacDonald. After graduating from Sydney Academy and the New Waterford School of Nursing, Helen worked for several years, then married and settled in New Waterford, where she raised a family. In earlier years, Helen was a member of the New Waterford Nurses Guild and the Children’s Aid Society. Helen is survived by daughters, Cecilia M. Roach, Mary E. (George) Lerikos; sons, Patrick Roach and John Roach; two granddaughters, Susanne and Michelle; four grandsons, David, Andrew, Alex and Michael; her sister, Cecilia (Gerard) Curry and niece, Patricia Power (Vern) MacDonald. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will be held Friday, March 11, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating.
