'Christy' Sherwood Born In: Canoe Lake Born: May 24th, 1927 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: May 10th, 2016 We, the family of Christy M. Sherwood, regret to announce her passing on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at the Cove Guest Home, Sydney. Born May 24, 1927, at Canoe Lake, she was the daughter of the late David and Sarah Ann (MacIntyre) Lynk. Christy is survived by her daughters, Frances Hanson, Calgary, Georgina (Ken) Sherwood-Loften, Calgary, Brenda Sherwood, Grande Prairie and Sally (Billy) MacCormick, Marion Bridge; sons, David MacSween, Edmonton, Phillip, Gordon (Emma) and Kenny (Carol McCaw), Gabarus and Jimmy, Grand Prairie ;17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren: sister-in-law, Mildred MacIntyre. Also fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews and several sons and daughters-in-law. She was predeceased by her husband, George; sister, Margaret ‘Peggy’; brothers, Alex, Dan, Rory, Duncan, John A. and Angus; three grandchildren. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Zion Wesley United Church on Friday 11 a.m., with Rev. Thomas Whent officiating. Interment in Lakeview Cemetery, Gabarus. Memorials may be made to charity of choice. Born in Fredericton, N.B., she was the daughter of Ruth (Hartley), Fredericton and the late Manny Nowlan. Gerard Albennie Landry Born In: Sydney Passed in: Sydney Passed on: May 7th, 2016 It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Gerard Landry at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Saturday, May 7, 2016. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late William and Evelyn (Fourgere) Landry. He was a labourer by trade and was a member of Local 92, he was employed with companies out west for over 10 years. He was a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays, he played the juice harp and enjoyed his time at the French Club. He loved puzzles and faithfully watching jeopardy. He will be missed by all who knew him. Gerard is survived by his children, Crystal Landry and Anthony Landry, both of Sydney; his precious grandchildren, Caydence, Tristina-Marie and Layton Garland. He is also survived by his sisters, Annette Landry, Joan (Bert) Therrien, both of Ontario, Alice Marie (Kevin) Ford, East Bay; his brother, Phillip Wayne Landry, Sydney; his godchildren, Holly MacDonald, Amber MacDonald-Brown and Brian Norman Ford, as well as many nieces and nephews. Gerard was predeceased by his brother, Donald Landry. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 12-2 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Shirley (Leach) Tremblay Born In: North Sydney Born: January 27th, 1936 Passed in: Dartmouth Passed on: May 6th, 2016 The family of Shirley regrets to announce her passing on May 6, 2016 in Dartmouth. She was born in North Sydney on Jan. 27, 1936 to Captain Raymond and Mary Jane Oxford. She is survived by her sons, Gerard, Richard, James and Ronnie; daughters, Elaine, Michelle, Theresa, Rhonda and Rachel; sisters, Dorothy and Marie and brothers, Raymond and Melvin. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Tremblay; sons, John and Mike; daughter, Heather, and sisters, Theresa and Daisy. Arrangements are being made and will be announced in the coming days.
