(Jones) Miles - Albert Clamp - 90 yrs Gerald Richard “Bob” Hutt - 81 yrs Delores Elizabeth (Smith) Fiolek - 76 yrs Thomas James Confiant Born In: North Sydney Passed in: North Sydney Passed on: May 24th, 2016 Thomas James Confiant, 87, of North Sydney, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2016, at the Northside General hospital. Born in North Sydney he was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Robinson) Confiant. Thomas had a kind and loving heart and always had a smile. He was very proud to be a husband to his wife Dorothy (Carter) Confiant. He is also survived by his children, Joan Barron (Kippy), Colleen Grant (Donny), Laura Cordero (Vince), Kay Ransome (Ron), Clarrissa Campbell (Gary), Arlene MacLean (Charles), Farrell Confiant (Carol), Darrell Confiant (Ellen), Maxine Campbell (Kevin) and Joy Confiant (Vernon). He was “Poppy Tom” to all 22 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was predeceased by two children Tommy Confiant and Marie Confiant; brothers Joseph, Moe, Raymond, Bill, Ronnie, Peter and sisters Julie and Martha. We would like to thank all the caregivers, doctors, nurses, members of the VON and all homecare workers who provided their services to Tom. There will be no visitation by Tom’s request. A service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, May 28 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, North Sydney. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com John Gordon 'Gordie' MacNeil Passed on: May 21st, 2016 It is with great sadness that I announce the sudden passing of my brother, Gordon ‘Gordie’ MacNeil, 45, on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at home. Gordie was a kind hearted gentle soul. Who kept to himself but enjoyed the simple things in life like watching movies. Born in Sydney, He was the son of the late John Joseph and Priscilla (Hawley) MacNeil. Gordie is survived by his only sister, Juanita (Francis) Parsons and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Cyril Travis Desmond Born In: Sydney Born: February 24th, 1959 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: May 23rd, 2016 It is with heavy hearts and a profound sadness that we announce the death of a loving son, brother, father, uncle and friend, Cyril Travis Desmond, on Monday, May 23, 2016, Sydney. Born in Sydney on Feb. 24, 1959, Travis is survived by his mother, Marie Margettie (Desmond) and his stepfather, Stanley Margettie of Whitney Pier. To mourn in their loss is Travis’s son, Ryan Desmond (mother, Charmaine (Desmond) Brewster) and his brother and friend, Darren Desmond. He is also survived by several stepbrothers, stepsisters, nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. Sharing in the family’s loss are Travis’s best friends, Dave Shaeen and Garfield Yakimchuck, and his special nephew, Darien Reynolds. Travis was predeceased by his brother, Albert Forde, grandmother and grandfather, Theresa and Albert Desmond and step-grandfather, James Smith. Travis was employed as a firefighter with the Sydney Fire Department and later the Cape Breton Regional Fire Services for 30 years until his retirement. Travis was an outstanding athlete, playing senior level fastpitch baseball in which he excelled on the field in any position but especially, as a pitcher. Travis was a community volunteer; coaching both baseball and tennis for several years, giving back was something he cherished. He will be missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place. Visitation for the late Cyril Travis Desmond will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street), on Friday, May 27, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Committal will take place in the Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel. Following the committal prayers a reception will be held in the funeral home reception area. (Jones) Miles Passed in: Sydney Passed on: May 24th, 2016 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that I, Albert Miles, announce the passing of my partner and best friend of 37 years Joyce Miles, on May 24, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Joyce was a very loving woman with a big heart and a smile that could light up a room. She dedicated her life to making sure everyone in her household was taken care of. She also took great care and pride in her flowers. We love to watch the flowers bloom every year around this time. She is survived by our son, Cordell; godfather, Dave Parsons; close friends, Alberta Ferguson and family, also Neil and Brenda Candless, Scott and Sonia MacVicar, John and Wilma Cathcart, Wayne and Theresa Hardy. She will also be greatly missed by her four legged friend, her cat Desperado. Albert Clamp Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: April 29th, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Clamp on April 29, 2016 on his 90th birthday, at the Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay. Gerald Richard 'Bob' Hutt Born In: Tancook Island Born: April 5th, 1935 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: May 23rd, 2016 It is with broken hearts that we the family announce the passing of Bob Hutt, age 81, on Monday, May 23, 2016 on the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born on Little Tancook Island on April 5, 1935, he was the son of the late Denzil and Amanda (Cross) Hutt both of Little Tancook Island. As a young boy his family moved to Louisbourg where he was raised until he married. Then returned to Louisbourg (where his heart always remained) for a number of years to look after his mother, Amanda. Bob is survived by his common law wife, Joan Kolchetski, her children, Lisa Bobbett and Rob Kolchetski; his children, Gerry (Sharon) Hutt, Leslie Anne Hutt, Stephanie Annette (Rob) Bogs; the mother of his children, Marion ‘Sis’ Eliuk; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Murray, Gordon and Virginia, many nieces and nephews, as well as his best friend, Micky Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Peter Hutt and Lloyd ‘Bud’ Hutt. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was employed as a plumber and pipefitter, travelling to many provinces to work. He was a long-standing member for 56 years with the U.A. Local Union 682. He was famous for his cooking. He took great pride in everything he made, always made enough for an army and would deliver it to friends and family. And, of course to all who knew him well his food was always "the best" and it was. Up to recently he was still making his own homemade bread, sauerkraut and famous Lunenburg sausage. He will also be remembered by his quick witted sense of humour, story telling, kindness and generosity. And last but not least will be fondly remembered and missed by Micky on their Saturday's together playing Chase the Ace and daily coffee at the mall. From his three children "Dad, you will be always in our hearts, we love you and we will miss you until the time we are all together again". Bob’s wishes were to be cremated with no visitation or funeral services. Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Delores Elizabeth (Smith) Fiolek Born: June 13th, 1939 Passed on: May 22nd, 2016 It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Delores E. Fiolek on May 22, 2016. Born June 13, 1939. Predeceaased by her husband, Andrew ‘Butch’ Fiolek and parents, Samuel and Lena Smith. Survived by her children, Debbie Shea (Peter), Sharon Hauck, Michelle Laracy (Curtis), Sam Fiolek (Teena); grandchildren, Ginger, Jason, Ryan, Justin, Kurtus, Kyle, Zach, Krista, Matt and Lyndsy; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Taylor, Andrew, Brooke, Ocean, Brianna; great-great-granddaughters, Isla, Avia and Ivy, all of Cambridge as well as sisters, Sylvia Hulford (James), Donna Peach (Claude) and brother, Donald Smith, all from Cape Breton, N.S.
