Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Hedley and Florence (Snow) Mollon. Emily loved to bowl and bowled for over 50 years, she also enjoyed playing darts and tarabish. Emily enjoyed spending time with her family and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Emily is survived by her loving children, Judy (late Paddy), Evelyn, Donna (Ronnie), Danny (Adrianne), June, Dartmouth, Robert (Margarita), Calgary, Gordie (Cecilia) and Coralee (Brian); 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Maisy and Dorothy; brother, Ernie as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Dunn, her children, Mary Rose and Ardith, siblings, Evelyn, Donnie and Harvey. A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2016 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fort McMurray Red Cross or a charity of choice. Henry Kevin Devoe Born In: Bras d'Or Passed in: North Sydney Passed on: May 7th, 2016 We as a family are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear brother and uncle, Henry Kevin Devoe, on Saturday May 7, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, at the age of 72. Born in Bras d’Or, he was the son of the late Harry and Florence (Marsh) Devoe. Kevin spent 40 years sailing on the Great Lakes, returning home to Cape Breton to retire. He was a proud member of the Northside Kiwanis Golden K Club, he enjoyed volunteering with their Meals on Wheels Program, with his good friend Walter Eveleigh and Bowling for Big Brothers and Sisters. Kevin was also a volunteer at the North Sydney Food Bank. He was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays but only when they were winning. Kevin will be sadly missed by his caring sisters, Joyce Poole (Doug), North Sydney, Beverly McGrath (James), Niagara Falls, Angie MacNeil (Jack), Big Pond Center, Brenda Sexton (Glenn), Georges River, Mabel D’Eon (Gerald), Kempt Head, Lorraine Doyle (Gerard), Waverley, Jane McNeil (Gary), Alder Point and his only brother, Brian (Jane), Whitby, Ont. Along with 19 nieces and nephews and their families. Besides his parents Kevin was predeceased by his sister Theresa. The family would like to thank the EHS and the wonderful staff of the ER and ICU departments of Cape Breton Regional Hospital. As per Kevin’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral mass to celebrate his life will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. A reception will follow in Bras d’Or Hall. Kiely MacDonald Born In: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Born: June 7th, 1935 Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: May 6th, 2016 Age 80, of Cole Harbour passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Dartmouth General Hospital, May 6, 2016. Born July 7, 1935 in Glace Bay, raised in Louisbourg, Cape Breton. The eldest son of the late William Kiely MacDonald and Kathleen (Pope). Kiely is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Leona (Gallant). Besides his wife he is survived by his son, Bill (Carol); daughters, Denise (Bernie), Leslie (Kelvin) Campbell; grandchildren, Meghan, Amanda, Michael, Nicole, Hannah and Parker; siblings, Alan, Robert, Conrad, Colleen (Marple), and Michael. Predeceased by his brother Kevin. Kiely was employed in the fish processing industry of National Sea Products for four years after high school graduation. He graduated Sir George Williams (now Concordia University) with a BSc in physics and mathematics. He was recruited by the Department of Transport, Meteorological Branch, where he studied theoretical and applied meteorology. Subsequent postings, as a meteorologist, included RCAF bases at Trenton, Ont.; St-Hubert, Que.; Bagotville, Que.; Fort Churchill, Man.; Summerside, PEI and Shearwater, N.S. Selected for officer’s training, he attended RCAF Officer’s Training School and graduated with a short service commission to serve with the RCAF and Canadian Forces in France and Germany. On return to Canada and civilian life he served in several supervisory and management positions with Environment Canada. He retired from Maritime Command as a senior staff officer responsible for Environmental Affairs. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2016 from Saint John XXIII Parish, 35 Colby Dr., Dartmouth with Fr. Owen Connolly officiating and reception will follow. Cremation has taken place. Private interment will take place later in the day. Florence Gillis Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: May 7th, 2016 With sadden hearts we announce the passing of Florence Gillis, age 92 on Saturday May 7, 2016 at Seaview Manor surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Victoria, she was the youngest daughter of the late Angus and Esther (Mackie) MacDonald. As a young girl Florence worked for the Dominion Coal Company, where she met and married her forever love the late Joseph Gillis. Caring for her home and family was her true vocation. Summers at the bungalow in East Bay with her boys and a good card game around the table brought her the most joy and treasured memories. She had a great appreciation for nature’s beauty and often captured it in oil paintings. She was a woman of great faith and prayer, who could always enjoy a good laugh and a good debate. She will be sadly missed by her sister and best friend, Agnes (Sis) MacDonald, son, Frank (Irene), granddaughters, Caelin (Garett Lahey), Bhreagh (Spencer Green), and grandson, Cale, a very special great-granddaughter, Rowan Lahey, nieces, Marion MacDonald, Joanne Abel (Don), Linda Burshell (Patrick), Agnes Miller (Bruce), Trixie, and Betty Ann MacDonald (Bob), nephews, John David (Donna), John Hugh (Marilyn), Ronnie (Marlene) and Greg. She was predeceased by her sons, Donnie and a child in infancy, her brothers, John, Tom, Angus Jr, Phonse, Dan and John Hugh (Buddie), her sisters, Mary (Manie) Murphy and Margaret, her niece, Pamela Trodel, and nephew, Lawlor MacDonald. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. A funeral mass in celebration of Florence’s life will be held Tuesday May 10, 2016 at 11 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the church hall. Fr. Your compassion brought such comfort to both Florence and her family as she walked her last journey surrounded in loving care. “Nana, you will be forever in our hearts.” Lendal 'Farmer' MacRae Passed in: North Sydney Passed on: May 7th, 2016 It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Lendal MacRae, at the age of 74, on Saturday, May 7, at the Northside General Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Lendal, known as Farmer, grew up on Shawfield farm. Lendal was the only son of the late Alexander and Georgie (MacIntosh) MacRae. He was employed at Marine Atlantic until his retirement. He was a great fan of horse racing and his card games. Lendal is survived by his loving family; his wife, Mary; his three sons, Shane (Paula), Eldon, Billy (Tanya) all of North Sydney; his sisters-in-law, Nessie, North Sydney, and Doris, New York. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kyla, Kelli, Devan, Katrina, Amber, Andrew, Laura Lee, Bonnie Jean, and his nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved so dearly. Lendal will also be missed by longtime friend Melvin Jardine, who provided much love and support; all his horse racing buddies; and his card buddies, Eddie, Vicky, George and numerous others who joined them in their games. The family would like to express sincere thanks to the nursing staff on 4 West at the Northside General Hospital for their loving care and dedication while he was a patient, as well as the palliative-care doctors and nurses who are all excellent in their field. In keeping with Lendal’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
