Tait - Dianne Margaret MacLean - Rita Agnes 'Ree’ Walker - 97 yrs Stephen Harrietha - 96 yrs Daniel Charles Wareham Born In: New Waterford Passed in: Sydney Passed on: May 7th, 2016 It is with deep sadness, that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. Danny, age 65, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with his loving family at his side. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of Evangeline (Burke) and the late Daniel Wareham and was a member of St. Leonard’s Church, New Waterford. He was employed with Devco for over 24 years, where he worked mainly as a carpenter, in both the Lingan and Phalen Mines. Danny will be remembered as a family man who truly enjoyed spending time with his wife Janice and their family. He also enjoyed doing his yard maintenance, where he was always so meticulous; doing small carpentry projects, playing tarabish and crib, cleaning his vehicle or whatever, watching hockey, especially if his Leafs were playing and he always enjoyed his cup of tea and the conversations with his friends at their table at Tim Hortons. Daniel will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 44 years, Janice (Kavanaugh); sons, John Paul (Bambi), Matthew (Tracy), both of Calgary; his five cherished grandchildren, Amanda, whom he raised as a daughter, Jonathan, Breanne, Cody and Nova. He will also be missed by his mother, Evangeline; brothers, Greg (Polly), Brian (Maureen), Wally (Bernadette), Blair (Carolyn), Gerard (Edna); sisters, Charlene (Gordie) Armstrong, Karen (Frankie) MacMaster, Evelyn (David) MacDonald; mother-in-law, Edwina ‘Dinny’ (Kavanaugh); in-laws, Tommy (Mary), Kenny (Monica), Jackie (Shauna), Robert (Bernice), Dan (Alana), Jessie (Dougie) Poirier; brother-in-law, Angelo Markotjohn, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Also very special niece and goddaughter, Kalee. Danny dearly loved his aunts and uncles and his many cousins. Besides his father, he was also predeceased by a brother, Kevin; father-in-law, John ‘Bo’ Kavanaugh; sister-in-law, Patricia Markotjohn and his favourite pet lizard, Izzy. In honouring Daniel’s request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass, presided by Fr. Norman MacPhee will be celebrated 2 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, May 11, 2016, in St. Leonard’s Church. Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery, River Ryan. Following the interment, all are welcomed to meet with Danny’s family at a reception at the KOC Hall on Plummer Avenue, New Waterford. Tait Born In: Sydney Passed on: May 7th, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Stuart Tait, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend on Saturday May 7, 2016. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Henry and Isabel (Murray) Tait. ‘Stu’ was a career military man, spending 30 years serving with the RCAF before retiring in 1982 and moving home to Cape Breton. He was a longtime member of Branch #19 Royal Canadian Legion in North Sydney. Stu was a quiet and humble man who cared about his family. He enjoyed the special relationships he had with his grandchildren, Tanya and Crystal ‘Georgie’, Brandon and Lauren (Sandra), Stuart and Dawson (Robert). Stu is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth ‘Betty’ (Drake) Tait; children, Robert (Judy) Tait of Ottawa, Sandra (Hugh) Toner of Georges River; stepdaughter, Georgina (Georgie) (LeRoy) Musgrave of North Sydney; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Stu was predeceased by four brothers, Henry, Alexander, Theodore, William and two sisters, Jean and Agnes. Visitation for Stu will be held Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home chapel, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dianne Margaret MacLean Born In: Sydney Passed in: Dundas Ont. Passed on: April 25th, 2016 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dianne on April 25, 2016 after a very long illness. Dianne is survived by her mother, Muriel LeBlanc Sydney; her daughter, Deann MacLean (Andrew Pash), Halifax; granddaughter, Ava Pash; brother, Leo (Rebecca) LeBlanc Sydney; sisters, Patsy (Blair) Burke, Fredericton, Kathleen (Jim) Quirk, Sydney and Pamela Hagen, Halifax. Many nieces and nephews. Dianne was predeceased by her father, Patrick LeBlanc and daughter, Melissa (Charlie) Beck, Ontario. Interment will be held at a later date. Rita Agnes 'Ree' Walker Born In: Alder Point Born: November 5th, 1918 Passed in: North Sydney Passed on: May 9th, 2016 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Ree, (Rita Agnes Walker) age 97. Rita passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family, at the Northside Guest Home on Monday, May 9, 2016. Born in Alder Point on Nov. 5, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Euphemia (Livingston) Walker. She was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Anne's parish, Alder Point. She served as the Sacristan for many years, working diligently to ensure that everything necessary for worship was ready. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from New Waterford General in 1942 and nursed for 43 years. She spent the beginning of her career working at the Halifax Infirmary before moving to Montreal, where she was head nurse with DVA in St. Hyacinthe, Que. Rita worked there for the majority of her working career before returning home to Cape Breton. She finished her career at St. Elizabeth's (Northside General) in North Sydney. Rita has been a selfless caregiver all of her life, looking after her parents and three siblings through illness. She raised her nephew, Shane, from an early age and was like a second mother to her three special grandchildren, Janine, Shannon and Amanda. Rita filled her grandchildren with a sense of wonder, often telling them fabulous stories of her adventures in Montreal and New York. She is survived by her son, Shane (Alta) of Alder Point; grandchildren, Janine (Andrew) Keagan, Shannon Walker (Michael), & Amanda Walker; great-grandson, Walker Keagan; her brother, Pat of Toronto; and many nieces & nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Leona Meritt, Mary Art MacNeil and Theresa MacDonald, and brothers, Lawrence, Justin ‘Buddy’, Dawson, Bernie, and Alex. There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, Alder Point, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Stephen Harrietha Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: May 4th, 2016 The visitation for Stephen Harrietha, age 96 who passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay is Tuesday, May 10th from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Leo Boone is Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church followed by a reception in the church foyer.
