Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Cerina (Gracie) Cochrane. Vi is survived by her sisters, Blanche Burrows, Catherine Bothem, Shirley MacDonald, Kay MacNeil, brothers, Ernie, Bill and Tom. She was the much-loved aunt and honorary grandmother of Cherie Villeneuve and Harold Pino. Besides her parents, Vi was predeceased by three sisters, Stella Warren, Claire Taylor, Milly Maggrah, and four brothers, Johnny, Charles, Melvin and Joe. Raymond Patrick, formerly of Scotchtown, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at his home in South Bar, N.S. Raymond was a coal miner from the early age of 16 until he retired after 30 years. He loved the times at his cabin hunting and fishing, as well as numerous trips on his motorbike. Raymond had many biker friends who loved him fondly and will surely miss him. Raymond is survived by his wife Alexandra; stepdaughter Sandra Jane Musgrave; sons Glen (Eula), Philippines, Pius, Daren, Carl (Zod), all of Alberta; brothers Adrian (Patsy), Ronnie (Eva), Lingan, Blair (Paula), Ma., USA; sisters Margaret Morrison (Bobby), Lorraine Tighe (Vince), Ma.. USA, Dolly Cirella, Conn., USA, Joan Bennett (Fred), Ontario; grandchildren David Jr. and Ryan MacDonald, Tia Ray and Dekota Pembroke, as well as many nieces and nephews. Raymond was predeceased by his parents James and Catherine Pembroke, brothers William and James Pembroke, brother-in-law Roger Cirella, sister-in-law Donna Pembroke, nephews Blair Pembroke and James Morrison. Visitation will take place on Friday, May 27, 2016 from 5-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue with Fr. Thompson It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of James ‘Jim’ B. Thompson 78, who passed away peacefully Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit. Born and raised in Sydney, Jim was the son of the late James H. and Sadie Thompson of Sydney. He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian Fudge/ Thompson of 34 years; as well as his sister, Kay (Melvin) MacDonald. Jim spent his career as an automotive mechanic in numerous local car dealerships/garages as well as the Cape Breton Regional School Board. After retirement, he worked briefly at the Canadian Corp. of Commissionaires. An avid NASCAR and hockey fan, you could find Jim cheering on his AHL/NHL Leafs with his face painted in the Maple Leaf emblem. He was very proud of his three children (Bernadette, Kevin & Valerie) who all serve(d) in the Canadian Armed Forces, as well as his extended family and grandchildren. He also enjoyed dancing and many camping trips with his confidant and life partner, Myra Best. Mildred Bennett Kimbley Born In: Sydney Born: December 20th, 1930 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: May 25th, 2016 Mildred Bennett Kimbley, of Ashby Road, Sydney, passed into the presence of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, in the early morning at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Mildred was a faithful wife, mother and Servant Leader in everything she accomplished. Milly-Willie (as she was affectionately called) was born in Sydney on Dec. 20, 1930, a daughter of the late John Daniel and Effie (Reid) MacDonald and the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mildred is survived by her husband, Pastor Kenneth Harry Kimbley; daughter, Laura (Gary) Mercer, Pt. Edward; sons, Stephen (Laura), Burlington, Ont., David (Satu), Boularderie, Richard, Canmore, Alta., Ulrike, Banff, Alta., Ian (Ana), Hamilton, Ont.; grandchildren, Ian (Jessica), Jacki, Justin (Annie), Daniel (Olivia), Johnathan, Mikael (Jennica), Seppo Bennett (Margot), Erik (Priscilla), Risto, Simon, Maija, Phillip, Noah, Tainana and Jorge; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Jacoby; many nieces and nephews. Mildred was predeceased by her sisters, Lena McCurdy, Anna Labinowicz, Sarah Moore, Evelyn Badger, Wilma Youden and Helen (in infancy); brothers, Robert and Donald; granddaughter, Sofia Kimbley (in infancy). Visitation will take place at Faith Baptist Church on Saturday, May 28 from 12 -1:30 p.m., followed by a celebration service at 1:30 p.m., with Pastor Rob Jones officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment at Black Rock Cemetery to follow the reception. Jonathan Ennis MacLeod Born In: New Waterford Passed in: New Waterford Passed on: May 24th, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear, warm, and deeply loved son, brother and uncle, Ennis MacLeod at home on May 24, 2016. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of Stanley ‘Nipper’ and Judy (Wilcox) MacLeod. He is survived by his brother, John, Halifax; sisters, Tanya, Halifax, Tara (Daniel), Toronto, Kim, Scotchtown, Lindsay (Sean), Judique; nieces, Rebecca, Maggie; nephews, Gary, Declan, Gabriel and Jake. He will also be deeply missed by his grandmother, Florence MacLeod; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends, and the love of his life, Shaunna Tighe. A welder by trade, Ennis lived for a brief time in Edmonton, Halifax, and Toronto but his heart was always in his hometown of New Waterford surrounded by family and friends. He was happiest with family and friends as jokes were being told and guitars were being strummed. At any family gathering, everyone always asked “Where is Ennis?!?” whose smile, levity and infectious humour always brought joy and laughter to everyone present. Even when separated by great distances, Ennis would always be the first to call or message his family and friends. Regardless of the time of day or the hour of night, Ennis always wanted them to know he was thinking about them. Ennis was predeceased by his grandparents, John Enis MacLeod and Bernie and Lish Wilcox. Visitation will take place on Friday, May 27 from 4-9 p.m. and a funeral mass to celebrate Ennis’ life will be held on Saturday, May 28 at 10 a.m. with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating in the Parish of St Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford. Interment will be in St Michael’s cemetery, with a luncheon to follow at the parish hall, Convent Street, all are welcome. To send online condolences to the family go to mclellanfuneralhome.com Smell the sea And feel the sky Let your soul and spirit fly Into the mystic (Van Morrison) Daniel Kenneth Quinn Born In: Sydney Born: December 21st, 1942 Passed in: Okotoks, Alberta, Canada Passed on: May 24th, 2016 Daniel Quinn, of Calgary, Alta., passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Foothills Country Hospice at the age of 73. Dan was born in Sydney, N.S. on Dec. 21, 1942. He moved his young family from Cape Breton to Calgary in 1967 where he had a long and productive career with the Calgary Board of Education. Dan was a founding parishioner of St. Bonaventure Church. He will be fondly remembered for his love of Celtic tunes, good jokes and a hearty laugh. Dan found joy in the outdoors and was passionate about coaxing trout to an expertly placed dry fly. He was as devoted as one can be to the wellbeing and happiness of his family. We will miss him dearly and we cherish the life he shared with us. He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Teresa (nee Campbell) and survived by his wife of 52 years, Marie (nee Starzomski); sons, Michael (Cynthia) and Neil (Sandy) of Calgary; daughter, Janet (Ron) of Campbell River and five grandchildren, Megan, Riley, Emma, Olivia and Daniel; brother, Joe (Mary) and sister, Sheila (Don). Melvin Wayne Wambolt Passed on: May 22nd, 2016 It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that the family of Melvin Wayne Wambolt, age 66, announce his passing on Sunday, May 22, 2016. He was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Bernice Wambolt, his mother-in-law, Anne MacInnes and his brother-in-law, Donald MacInnes. Mel is survived by his wife of 44 years, Catherine (MacInnes); daughter, Nadine Wambolt (Keith MacDonald); daughter, Marcy (Nathan) Burke; and his two granddaughters, Myla and Lily Burke. He is also survived by members of his extended Wambolt and MacInnes families. Mel was born in Sydney (Grand Lake Road), where he lived throughout his life and was a member of the Grand Lake Road Volunteer Fire Department for 19 years. Mel worked at Paul Hashem’s Scrapyard for 30 years and later, at Scotsburn Dairy, until his retirement. Mel was an avid outdoorsman throughout his life, spending much of his time at his bungalow in Mull River, Mabou, his paradise. If he was not at the bungalow, he was planning his next trip there. When in Sydney, he would often comment, “this would be a great day in Mull River”. Those who knew Mel knew him to be a hardworking man of great integrity and strength. He loved music and would dance the night away any chance he had. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a knack for great story telling. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and dear friend, who will be deeply missed. A special thank you to the staff at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney for their loving care and support.
