Mel is survived by his wife of 44 years, Catherine (MacInnes); daughter, Nadine Wambolt (Keith MacDonald); daughter, Marcy (Nathan) Burke; and his two granddaughters, Myla and Lily Burke. He is also survived by members of his extended Wambolt and MacInnes families. Mel was born in Sydney (Grand Lake Road), where he lived throughout his life and was a member of the Grand Lake Road Volunteer Fire Department for 19 years. Mel worked at Paul Hashem’s Scrapyard for 30 years and later, at Scotsburn Dairy, until his retirement. Mel was an avid outdoorsman throughout his life, spending much of his time at his bungalow in Mull River, Mabou, his paradise. If he was not at the bungalow, he was planning his next trip there. When in Sydney, he would often comment, “this would be a great day in Mull River”. Those who knew Mel knew him to be a hardworking man of great integrity and strength. He loved music and would dance the night away any chance he had. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a knack for great story telling. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and dear friend, who will be deeply missed. A special thank you to the staff at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney for their loving care and support. At his request, no service will be held. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
