Born in Egypt, April 13th, 1919, Jessie was the daughter of Alex and Cassie (MacLellan) MacDonald. Jessie was a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph’s Parish, Southwest Margaree. Throughout her lifetime, Jessie gave tirelessly of herself, helping her neighbours whenever she could and always putting the comfort of others and their well-being before her own. Jessie lived a faith-filled life. She enjoyed visits with her family in the Glen, welcoming everyone with a good cup of tea and her generous hospitality. Meal after meal was served with love to neighbour and friend, hunter and fisherman, family from near and far; we could never count the biscuits, rolls, and pies created by her over the years. You always felt welcome in the Glen. Jessie enjoyed playing bingo, a good game of cards, and catching up on the news. She enjoyed being part of the lives of her many nieces and nephews and their growing families. She travelled near and far for birthdays, weddings, and graduations. She enjoyed softball and soccer games and the Inverness Raceway well into her 90s. Jessie was able to speak the native language, Gaelic, very well. She remembered family histories like no other and loved spending the winter months with Kay and Jack in Maine for many years. Jessie was faithful to her Catholic upbringing and St. Ann. She made many pilgrimages to St. Ann de Beaupre and faithfully supported the shrine. Jessie spent the last months of her life at the Inverary Manor, where she received loving care from the wonderful and compassionate staff. MacFARLANE Eric Joseph MacFarlane, 17 years old, Dunvegan, Inverness County. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle, and friend, Eric, on July 26th at home. Eric loved spending time with family, friends, and his dog, Sandy. He had a great passion for the outdoors; especially kayaking, dirt biking, and fixing anything with a motor. At his young age family and neighbours could call on Eric to assist with anything needing fixing. Eric was a grade 12 student at Inverness Academy. He was known for being a fun-loving ,wild, and crazy soul. One of his biggest assets was his generous and kind heart. Eric is survived by his parents Eric and Geraldine (MacEachern) MacFarlane; brother Richard Nerysoo, Dartmouth; sisters Rena Nerysoo, Edmonton; Erica, Allie (Brendon), and Sarah MacFarlane of Ontario; and Rosie Gainey (Lane) of Virginia; grandmother Catherine MacFarlane, Gillisdale; and nieces and nephews Faith, Chloe, Evelyn, and Calvin, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents Danny Hector and Katie Mae MacEachern and Joe MacFarlane. Visitation for Eric was held on Friday, July 29th at the Inverness Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday in Stella Maris Church, Inverness with Fr. Danny MacLennan officiating. Burial took place at MacDougall Cemetery. The funeral was under the direction of Dignity Funeral Home. MacDONALD Francis John "Frank" MacDonald, 74, of Creignish passed away at home on July 28th, 2016. Born in Creignish, he was a son the late Dan C. and Sarah (MacDonald) MacDonald. Frank retired from Stora Forest Industries with over 30 years of service. He will be remembered for his kind and gentle manner, his love of a good story, his absolute delight at a prank or a joke, and his unfaltering love and devotion to his animals. Frank loved nothing more than to go for a visit or to have someone stop in to say hi. It would take but only a few minutes of conversation for Frank to get over his initial shyness and then he was a well of stories and tales. Through the years Frank touched the lives of many of his nieces and nephews, some who live near and some who live far from his farm in Creignish; especially nephews Wes and Daryl Jardine, who were always there for Frank for whatever he needed. We can all tell of stories helping with the hay, going to the exhibition, trips to bingo, feeding the lambs, or putting the kettle on for his "half cup of tea". If Frank was going somewhere, there was always room in his truck for one more. He had a special place in his heart for all of us, however, a very large piece of his heart belonged to grandnephew Trevor (Heather MacDonnell) and grandniece Lesley (Rod MacLellan). If you were to ask Frank "what's new" it would often be answered with an update on what was happening in their lives. Frank loved us all, but was especially proud of them. We hope he is at rest and he will be missed up on the hill. Frank is survived by his sister Charlotte (John Angus) MacLean and sisters-in-law Velma, Tina, and Catherine. Frank was preceded by his sisters Flora (Edward Peckham) and Mary (William Jardine); brothers Jim, Murdock, Alexander, Angus and Rankin (in infancy); nieces Connie Peckham and Cheryl Noseworthy; nephews David MacDonald and A.J. MacDonald; and great-grandnephew Eli Jardine. The body rested in Green's Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury with visitation Sunday, July 31st. Funeral Mass was offered Monday, August 1st at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Creignish, with Rev. Hugh D. MacDonald presiding; burial followed in the Parish Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA or the Cape Breton Cancer Centre. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Green's Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. He was born on October 5th, 1925, to Florence and Eddie White in Inverness. Papa moved to New Waterford to work in the mines after being laid off at General Motors in Windsor, ON where he developed a love of car mechanics. After the mines closed in Inverness, and his mother had to go to the TB sanatorium, he helped his father keep the family together. He became a breadwinner at an early age and looked after his parents until their deaths. He was predeceased by his brothers Gerald “Tonto” and Joe and sisters Marie and Kathleen, as well as a nephew Jerry. He is survived by his wife Theresa (MacPherson/Doucette) and step-children Tish (Russell) MacKinnon, Frank Doucette and Ray (Judy) Doucette, who loved him as a father; his grandchildren, who knew him as Papa, include Gregory MacKinnon, Jenna (Harry) Doucette, Erin Doucette and Steven Peters, as well as Kris (Laura) Doucette, Jesslyn (B.J.) Richardson and Laura Doucette; and great-grandchildren Jemma, Charley, Tiana, Kaitlyn and Ayden. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Beatrice White, Mary Ann White, Chris George, Lorraine Burke, Carmel Timmins; brother-in-law Vince MacPherson; nephews Paul, Roger, Jerry and Daniel; and nieces Barbara, Rose, Jo-Ann, Marilynn, and Geraldine. He had a passion for Scottish music. While in Windsor, he was a regular at “sessions”, where his friend Dan R. MacDonald played and composed tunes. Dan R. would tell those present that Greg was the only man he knew who could whistle a tune in B flat. In the end, George Jones, Kris Kristofferson, and Willie Nelson (the three brothers from New Brunswick) would help his family settle him at bed time while he struggled with his dementia. It was a tape he made years ago and he always asked, “Who made that tape?” and would shake his head in disbelief and smile. The family lost their struggle to keep him home and were blessed when they had to give him up to a new family at Celtic Court in Sydney, where he resided the last six months of his life. Papa was a jack of all trades, building porches in Inverness when he was nine years old. He was proud to have built his own home. Even in his dementia, he could be seen trying to figure out how something was put together. If he missed a shift the men would ask: “Where’s Greg White?” Buried twice, he often told the story of the stone on his chest. He lived a good life and tried hard never to offend or judge any other man. He had to stop going to church when he was 85. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held on Saturday, July 23rd, 2016, followed directly by a chapel service with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Ashes interred at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, 902-862-7500. To send online condolences go to www.mclellanfuneralhome.com. We thank God he is finally free.
