CORMIER Joseph Armand Cormier, age 79, of Point Cross, passed away on October 13th, 2016, surrounded by his loving family in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Joseph Armand Cormier. Born in St.-Joseph-du-Moine, he was the only son born to Johnny (à Joe à Marcellin) Cormier and Theresa LeBlanc. After the death of Armand’s father when he was almost two years old, his mother later married Johnny (à Médée à Padé) Aucoin, a loving and doting father. A fan of Les Canadiens de Montreal all of his life, he also enjoyed a good laugh and a fierce debate. We knew he was happy when he was whistling a tune. All knew Armand as a very hard worker, a lumberjack, then a fisherman for almost 40 years. Although he was retired, he was passionate about the fishing industry and enjoyed the many visits of fisherman friends. Many who came to visit him wanted to impart of his wisdom. He continued to mentor and help the younger generations of fishers by helping them with their nets and prepping for upcoming lobster seasons. He still very much enjoyed to go out for a sail from time to time. Many will remember his love and respect of nature. An organic farmer, he always enjoyed gardening – many recognized his immaculate vegetable gardens year after year. And when cutting his firewood for the winter, he always did selective cutting. He passed all of this knowledge to his children. He also built a cottage so the family could meet often, whatever the season. Last August, his family was able to reunite at the homestead. One last time, we had quite a sing-along in the Cormier living room – a moment we will cherish forever. Armand is now in the loving arms of his God, whom he loved. Armand dedicated his life to his wife of 58 years, Isabelle (Doucet) Cormier and to his children: sons Gerry (Camille) Cormier, Petit Etang; Bruno Cormier, Toronto; daughters Betty Ann (Roland) Beaudry, Moncton, NB: Ginette (Xavier) Poirier, Point Cross; Aurélie (Mathíeu) Perreault, Dieppe, NB; brother Harvey (Jocelyne) Aucoin; brothers-in-law Harris, Willie Joe, Percy, Yvon, Donald, and Billy; sisters-in-law Sylvia and Brenda; sister Lea (Joseph Arthur) Deveaux; and several nieces and nephews. He had a special place in his heart for grandchildren Renaud Poirier, Émilién Cormier, Isabelle Beaudry, Benoit Poirier, Lilianne Cormier, Louis-Olivier Perreault, and Éloise Perreault. Predeceased by stepfather Johnny Aucoin; sister Eileen (Cormier) Connor and granddaughters, beloved little angels, Aimee and Jean Marie. The body rested at Cheticamp Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was held on Monday, October 17th, 2016, in St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp. Burial in the parish cemetery. Donation may be made to Cape Breton Cancer Patient Care Fund or Sacred Heart Community Health Centre. Condolences may be sent to cheticampfuneral@ns. aliantzinc.ca.
