Born in Bras d’Or on February 18, 1940, Joe was the son of the late George and Annie Jones. Joe worked as a truck driver and in later years owned Bras d’Or Taxi and worked for Canada Post until his retirement. Joe loved spending time with family and friends, playing cards and was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Iris (Harrietha) Jones and his children, Liam (Diane), Port Colborne, Lisa MacDonald (Peter), Dartmouth, Gail Jessome, Dartmouth, Paul, Fort McMurray and Carl (Alicia), Bras d’Or. Joe is also survived by his six grandchildren, Holly, Kelly, Alicia, Brandon, Nicole and Matthew; sisters, Thelma Adams and Lorraine Aylward, both of Ontario and his brother-in-law, Russell Harrietha, Point Aconi. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, Raymond Jessome; sisters, Mary Nugent and Rachel Gordon and brothers, Garfield, Wilfred, Arthur and David. In accordance with Joe’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating, with interment to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. A reception will take place in the parish hall, following the service. John “Jack” Arthur Smith Passed on: October 25th, 2016 John “Jack” Arthur Smith, age 81, of New Waterford, passed away on Tuesday October 25, 2016 at home with family by his side. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral services. The funeral arrangements are under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. William Duplain Passed on: October 25th, 2016 Mr. Martin Robert William Duplain passed peacefully at the age of 66 on October 25th at Carefor Hospice Cornwall surrounded by his family. Survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Nancy (Teasdale); his two children, Marc (Melissa) and Jennifer (Emanuel Lauzon) and his two grandsons, Hunter and Jake. Predeceased by his parents, William Duplain and Margaret Martin. He will be sadly missed by his brothers, Richard (late Norma), Robert (Peggy), David and Paul (Manon); many nieces, nephews and wonderful, caring friends. At Bill’s request, there will be no funeral service. Visitation will be held at Wilson Funeral Home, 822 Pitt Street, Cornwall, on Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 1-3 p.m. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations in his memory made to Cornwall-Corinthian 125 Lodge, Chartwell Long-Term Care Home (Chateau Gardens, Lancaster) or Carefor Hospice Cornwall would be appreciated by the family.
