Surrounded by her loving family, our mother passed through the gates of Heaven to reunite with her Loving Angel, Sharon Ann. Born in Glace Bay, on Feb. 22, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Sarah Margaret (Saccary) Currie. Rose enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, laughing and telling stories, she always had a beautiful smile on her face. You could always expect a cup of tea and something sweet when you entered her kitchen. She was a caring and loving person, devoted wife, mother and friend. Rose is survived by her daughters, Colleen (Darrell) McNeil, Andrea (Victor) Tobar, Mary Rose (Daniel) Aucoin; son, Darrell ‘Boo’ (Peggy); sisters, Anne Cameron, and Joan Piovesan; brother, Greg (Dolly) Currie; and a daughter-in-law, Priscilla; and special friend, Patsy Hill; also surviving are 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Rose was also predeceased by her husband, David; children, Gary, Sharon Ann and Wilfred Francis; sisters, Rita, Marg, Marie; brothers, Nash and Joe; and by two lifelong friends, Margie MacPherson and Toots Geddes. A special thanks to McGillivray’s Guest Home for having Rose feel like a part of their family for the past four and a half years, we cannot thank you enough for loving our mother and treating her in all the special ways you did. She loved each and every one of you very much. Thanks to Fr. Rankin for his many visits and prayers. Also thank you to the staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, especially the palliative-care unit who made her final days peaceful. As per Rose’s request, there will be no visitation; cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 27, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall. Interment will take place after the luncheon in St. Joseph‘s Cemetery, McLeod’s Road, Reserve Mines. In lieu of flowers, Rose has requested donations to be made to McGillivary Guest Home, Sydney. A mother’s love is a blessing No matter where you roam Keep them while they’re with you You’ll miss them when they’re gone And Ma, we will Miss You Forever Alice Mary MacDonald Born In: Whitney Pier Passed in: Sydney Mines Passed on: June 20th, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Alice (Murphy) MacDonald, 86, on Monday, June 20, 2016 at Miners Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines. Born and raised in Whitney Pier, a community Alice was so proud of, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Alice (Walsh) Murphy. Alice worked for many years at the MacGillivray Guest Home in Sydney. After her retirement, Alice continued to visit the residences of the home on a weekly basis. Alice was an avid skater throughout her entire life. She had been known to wear out a few pair of racer skates over the years. In 1959, Alice married Allan V. MacDonald and together they raised their children in Salmon River. There was never a day that would go by that mom did not have a fresh pan of biscuits on the table with a pot of tea on the stove. This always led to a wonderful conversation. Alice will be missed by all who knew her. Alice is survived by her only daughter, Stella (Brad) Webber and seven sons, Paul (Heather), Colin (Coreen), Jamie (Wendy), Sandy, Ronnie (Lori), Robert and Michael (Suzanne). Grandma is also survived by 18 grandchildren, Alicia, Jared, Jessie, Michelle, Candace, Joshua, Ashley, Evan, Cara, Lauren, Liam, Jeremy, Jessica, Jillian, Jenna, Reid, Madeline and Ewan; two great-grandchildren, Brooklynn and Chloe; sister, Anne (Gordon) White; as well as several nieces and nephews with whom she adored. Besides her parents, Alice was predeceased by her husband, Allan V., siblings, John Pat, Leo, Francis (Evelyn), Tommy (Joyce), Mary and by her special niece, Patricia MacDonald. Visitation for the late Alice Mary MacDonald will be held today (Friday, June 24, 2016) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street). Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Alice’s nephew, Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the mass, light refreshments will be held in the funeral home reception area. Burial will take place in St. Margaret’s Cemetery, Grand Mira. Donations in memory of Alice may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Cape Breton – Whitney Pier. The family would like to give a big thank you to the caregivers, VON and palliative care staff for the love and care given to Alice during her time of need. Angela Noel Hines Born In: Ingonish Victoria County Born: December 25th, 1960 Passed in: Port Hawkesbury, Canada Passed on: June 22nd, 2016 Angela Noel Hines, age 55 years of Port Hawkesbury formerly of Ingonish. Passed away at home on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. Born in Neil’s Harbour, Victoria Co., on Dec. 25, 1960 she was a daughter of the late John Harvey and Frances ‘Honey’ (Doucette) Donovan. Angela was employed as a custodian with the Strait Regional School Board, Port Hawkesbury. She is survived by her loving husband Bryan; daughters, Judy Hines, Halifax; Lynn (Stephen) Melanson, Shubenacadie; grandchildren, Rebecca and Mike who were the love of her life; siblings, Jennifer Westhaven (Darrel Hussey) and Leona Stockley (George MacLean) all of Ingonish; Geraldine (Calvin) Walker, Denure Beach, Sask.; Maria (Lonnie) Stockley, Dartmouth; Peter (Ginny) Donovan, Leitches Creek; Ruth (Steve) Cipak, Sydney; Maureen (Perry) Sneeden, Neepawa, Man.; Jackie (Dale) Hines, Sydney; Paul (Joanne) Donovan, Ingonish Beach; best friend and sister-in-law, Brenda (Donnie) MacInnis, West Bay Road; and many nieces and nephews Angela was predeceased by her, daughter, Brenda Marie; sister, Elaine Titus, brother, Leon. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, June 25 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Eileen Mary Henderson Passed in: Trenton, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: June 19th, 2016 Passed away suddenly but peacefully on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the age of 89. Beloved wife of Walter (who predeceased her) for 46 beautiful years. Loving mother of Rueben MacLean (Bonnie), of Trenton; Bill MacLean (Diane), of Kitchener; Margaret Cole (Glen), of Wooler; Elaine Madore (Joe), of Winnipeg; Marcella Mathieu (Garry), of Trenton; Donna Livingstone (Jerry), of Trenton; David MacLean (Patti), of Vancouver; Leona Crawford, of Calgary. Eileen is a proud grandmother of 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Arrangements have been entrusted with Weaver Life Centre - East Chapel, 29 Bay Street, Trenton. As per Eileen's wishes cremation has taken place. Private inurnment will take place at Mount Evergreen Cemetery. A special thank you to all the staff at Trent Valley Lodge for all their care and support. She was known as a friendly yet outspoken person and considered Trenton her home. Gloria (Brooks) Kuzmanov Passed on: June 21st, 2016 The former Gloria Brooks, daughter of the late Densil and Elsie Brooks, passed away on June 21, 2016. She is survived by husband, Chris Kuzmanoz; children, Judy (Don) Hiscock, Gene (Rose) Wilcox, Brenda Dean; grandchildren, Troy & Brendon Hiscock, Angela & Christian Wilcox, Kelly Dean and four great-grandchildren, Chleste, Avery, Ethan Hiscock & Ethan Annesty. There will be no visitation. Burial has already taken place.
