Joseph 'Joe' Charles Andrea Born In: Bras d'Or Born: November 25th, 1923 Passed in: Sydney Mines Passed on: June 6th, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather Joseph ‘Joe’ Charles Andrea, 92, of Sydney Mines, on Monday, June 6, 2016, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by family. Born on Nov. 25, 1923, he was the son of the late Michael J. and Jeannette (Gauthier) Andrea of Bras d'Or. Although Dad did not have the opportunity of a formal education, he was indeed a master of all trades. Having taught himself to read and write, he spent his life learning new skills. He could conjure up the solution to any obstacle with a stick, some tape and a paper clip. He was without doubt an inventor at heart. Dads’ love of family, especially the children, was boundless. His smile was never bigger than when he held a baby in his arms. Dad worked with a variety of coal companies, retiring from Devco in 1984. He spent many years in retirement driving the back roads of Cape Breton in pursuit of a new discovery. Dad is survived by his five children, Ed (Carol) MacPhee, N.B.; Judy (Billy) Tremblett, Joey (Brenda) Andrea, Janie (Brian) Hallliday, Sydney Mines; and Karen Andrea of Truro. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Linda MacPhee, Billy Tremblett, Jeffrey Tremblett, Jillian Sexton, Cindy Halliday, Brian Halliday, Rob Halliday and Joseph Andrea, and 10 great-grandchildren, Marlee, Alli, Abigail, Charlotte, Mitchell, Emma, Lindsay, Avory, Jocelyn and Cassidy. He is also survived by 10 brothers and sisters, John, Rita, Dave (Barb), Elias (Agnes), Francis, Lauretta (Herm), Bernie, Tony, Fr. Jake and Eugene (Ann). Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Helen Eileen (MacPhee), infant son Timothy David, daughter Susan Lorraine in infancy, brothers Leonard and Gabriel, and sisters Theresa and Olga. The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. M. McKeough and Louise for the care and compassion shown to Dad over the years. Also a special thanks to Home Care staff, the VON, and the staff of the Northside General ER, and 4 West. Visitation for Joe Andrea will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2016, from 6-9 p.m. in JM. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church with Fr. Jake Andrea officiating.
