Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late John Patrick and Rosalie Elizabeth (Martin) McGuigan. Patricia was a devoted wife, stepmother, grandmother and sister. She is survived by her husband, William ‘Bill’ Hammond; stepchildren, Jennifer, Jason and Jamie Hammond; grandchildren, Jaxson, Leah, Hailey and Miah. Patricia is also survived by her sisters, Nellie Cremo, Sharon Miller, Elaine Barnaby, Bernadette McGuigan, Teresa MacDonald, Louise McGuigan; brothers, John, Maynard and Lester McGuigan; godchildren, Cheryl Smith, Rosalieann McGuigan, Kyler Saunders and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Patricia was predeceased by her parents and her first husband, Daniel ‘Danny’ MacDonald. She was a longtime employee of Canada Employment Center. Patricia believed in angels and had a large collection. She endured many challenges through her illness and faced them with great courage. Her determination, and love of life, was an inspiration to all. She will be remembered for her love of music, crafts and enjoying outdoor activities. Patricia was loved by many and will be dearly missed. 
 Visitation for Patricia will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 12-2 p.m. at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Frenchvale. Marjorie Isabel MacKay Born In: Big Baddeck Passed in: Baddeck Passed on: June 19th, 2016 Marjorie Isabel MacKay, age 92, of Baddeck, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2016 at Alderwood Rest Home in Baddeck. She was born in Big Baddeck in 1923 to the late Colin John and Ruby (MacRae) Nicholson. Marjorie worked for the Department of Agriculture after finishing college in Truro. This took her to Truro and Windsor, N.S. as well as Moncton, N.B. She married Gesner MacKay in 1956 and they lived in Massachusetts for 21 years where her children were born. She and Gesner settled back in Baddeck in 1977 where she worked at the Victoria Farmers Co-op for a number of years. Marjorie was an active volunteer in many organizations. Her faith was an important part of her life and she was a member of the Greenwood Church and its UCW for many years. She was also a longtime member of the Alderwood working council and Baddeck Gaelic Society. Marjorie enjoyed baking, cards and gardening and could often be found in the kitchen making rolls or oatcakes for an event of some type. Marjorie is survived by her daughter Jane Schroeder, Atlanta, Georgia; sons, Gordon, Baddeck, Scott (Colleen) Ottawa and Glenn (Brenda), Fall River, N.S. She has six grandchildren, Olivia and Emma Schroeder, Ryan and Matthew MacKay, Jack and Ava MacKay, who brought her much enjoyment and cheer over the years. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Joan Nicholson, Nellie MacKay and many nieces and nephews. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Gesner and son, Elton. She is the last surviving member of her family having been predeceased by sister, Anna (Christopher) MacKenzie and brothers, Harvey and Allister (Joan) Nicholson. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2016 from 7-9 p.m. at MacAskill’s funeral home in Baddeck. The funeral will be held at Greenwood United Church on Wednesday, June 22 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Alison Etter officiating. A reception and visitation will follow in the church hall with burial at St. Andrews Cemetery. The family would like to thank all the medical personnel, friends and family, who have helped Marjorie over the past years. A special thank you to all the staff at Alderwood Rest Home for the incredible kindness and compassion they have shown Mom during her time there as a resident. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alderwood Rest Home, Greenwood United Church or the charity of one’s choice. Daniel Eric Carmichael Born In: North Sydney Born: March 2nd, 1924 Passed in: Arlington Mass Passed on: June 16th, 2016 Born in North Sydney, March 2, 1924 and passed in Arlington, Mass., June 16, 2016. Eric was the son of the late Captain Dan and Hattie Carmichael of Goose Cove. Beloved husband of Kaye (Morrison) and loving father of Bonnie (Fred), Brian (Colleen), Wendy and Paul (Laurie). He was Grampie Eric to eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Eric was predeceased by brothers, Hector, Gussie, Campbell and sisters, Evelyn and Mary. Funeral will be held Tuesday, June 21st from Newton Presbyterian Church, burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Gretta (Ahle) White Born In: New Denmark NB Born: September 5th, 1927 Passed in: North Sydney Passed on: June 19th, 2016 We, the family of Gretta White, regret to announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother on Sunday, June 19, 2016, at the Northside General Hospital. Born in New Denmark, New Brunswick on Sept. 5, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Jenny (Jenson) Ahle of Big Bras d’Or. Mom worked alongside Dad on their farm in Mill Creek for many years until their retirement. She was a wonderful seamstress and an amazing weaver who created many treasures for her family and friends. She worked endlessly helping, caring and cooking for her family, who meant everything to her. Her family was her greatest accomplishment. She was a member of the Boularderie Schoolhouse Rug Hookers, a lifetime member of the Munro Crafters Guild, and she taught sewing classes for several years and inspired many with her remarkable talents. Mom will be sadly missed by her children, George Richard (Patricia), Marion (David) Walters, and Brian (Michelle). Dear to her heart were her grandchildren, Brian (Jennifer), Tanya (Mark) Howley, Christopher, George Gregory (Jennifer), Jonathon (Nicole) Hunter and Katherine Brooks, as well as her great-grandchildren, Jack, Noah, Grace, Claire, Lucas, Gretchen and Marta. She is also survived by her brothers, Leif Ahle, Felix (Diane) Ahle and Richard Ahle; sister, Esther (Elmer) Reashore and sister-in-law, Theresa Ahle. Mom was always very close to her extended Ahle family with whom she spent many happy times during the Sunday suppers which she truly enjoyed. She was also very close to her special friend, Eileen, who was very helpful and supportive for many years. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George; brother, Erik; sisters-in-law, Amelda and Mary and grandson, Benjamin. Visitation for Gretta White will be held in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, (today) Tuesday, June 21, 2016, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, at 11 a.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Queen Street, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Stacey LeMoine officiating. Family flowers only, please. Donations in Gretta’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the charity of one’s choice.
