Sampson - 94 yrs John Greg MacDougall - Leona (Sutherland) Carroll - 90 yrs Cory Alexander Redmond - 37 yrs Eva Margaret MacRae Born In: Big Baddeck Born: August 27th, 1929 Passed in: Baddeck Passed on: June 19th, 2016 Eva Margaret MacRae of Middle River, passed away at Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck on June 19, 2016. Born in Big Baddeck (Big Farm) on Aug. 27, 1929, daughter of the late William G. and Annie (Hart) MacRae. On Sept.1st 1950, she married the love of her life, Stewart J. MacRae. During her time in Middle River Eva was very involved in many community organizations. She especially enjoyed her time as a member of the Middle River Historical Society. She also shared her talent as an organist and always made herself available when needed. She was a woman of great faith in her Lord and Savior which she generously shared by word, thought and deed. She is survived by her brother, Albert (Bert), Sudbury, Ont. and sister, Edna Matheson, Baddeck; daughters, Linda, Nyanza, Frances (Albert) Rodriguez, Arizona; sons, David (Sharon), Middle River, Scott (Valerie), Grand Prairie. She is also survived by grandchildren, Cheryl, Heather, Melanie (Glenn), Tim (Margaret), Katie (Stephen) and Ryan (Flo); great-grandchildren, Zoe, Logan, David, Hannah and Maryn; sisters-in-law, Anna (Alex) Nicholson, Mabel MacDonnell and Marion MacRae and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Stewart Joseph; son, Douglas; brothers, Ralston and Keigan. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held at Farquharson Memorial Church, Middle River on Thursday, June 23rd at 2 p.m., Rev. Louis Ihasz officiating. Arrangements made under the direction of MacAskill’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alderwood Rest Home or the Alzheimer Society. Lorenzo J. Sampson Born In: L'Ardoise Born: October 5th, 1921 Passed in: Sydney Mines Passed on: June 20th, 2016 We regret to announce the passing of Lorenzo Sampson, 94, of L’Ardoise, on Monday, June 20, 2016, in the Harbour View Hospital Veteran’s Wing, Sydney Mines. Born in L’ Ardoise on Oct. 5, 1921, he was the son of the late William and Alice (Martel) Sampson. Lorenzo served with the #1 Special Wireless Group formed on Vancouver Island. He served in Canada and Australia from 1941 – 1947. He returned to L’Ardoise and took over his father’s General Store, which he ran successfully until 1985. Lorenzo enjoyed fishing, baseball, woodworking and sketching. Lorenzo married Sadie Rehberg and has three stepchildren, Michael, Kenneth and Joan. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Sadie (Rehberg) Sampson; brothers, Wilfred, Napoleon, Gilbert and Raymond, and his sisters, Florence and Martha. A memorial service will take place Friday, June 24, 2016, at 1 p.m. in Holy Guardian Angels Church, L’Ardoise. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. John Greg MacDougall Passed in: Foxboro Mass Passed on: June 19th, 2016 It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my Dad on Sunday, June 19, 2016. Greg was the son of the late John and Mabel (Moran) MacDougall. In his early years, he was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces and also worked in the coal mines. He later moved his family to the U.S., residing in the town of Foxboro, where he later retired from the Foxboro Co. with 25 years service. He is survived by his only daughter, Sharon (Kenny) Baldwin; grandchildren Kenny (Kendra), Jason (Lois), Kristy (Jan) Douglas, Kyle (Arienne); great grandchildren Drew, Brody, Brooke, Cooper, Izaac, Harper, and Breah; sisters Mary Oliver, New Waterford, and Lorraine MacMaster, Foxboro, Mass., and her children Debbie, Laurie, Darlene, and Scott who were a big part of his life. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and in-laws. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Vera (Dupe), sons Lornie and James, sisters Veronica, Tottsie, and brother Danny. Funeral is under the direction of Roberts and Sons, with a mass to be held on June 30 at St. Mary’s Church, Foxboro, Mass. Leona (Sutherland) Carroll Born In: Sydney Mines Born: February 22nd, 1926 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: June 20th, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leona Carroll, 90, on Tuesday, June 20, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with her loving sister Dolores by her side. Born in Sydney Mines on Feb. 22, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Annie (Matheson) Sutherland. Leona is survived by her sister, Dolores Howard, Florence; her brother, Leonard (Florence), Gabriola Island, B.C., and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Michael Carroll; brothers, Alexander and Arthur; sisters, Agnes MacInnis, Isobel (Bill) Serroul, Jeannie (Aubrey) Montague, Patty (Albert) Jesty, Yvonne (Charlie) Young, Anna ( in infancy), and brothers-in-law, Larry MacInnis and Ernie Howard. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A mass to celebrate her life will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. A reception will take place in the parish hall, after the mass. Cory Alexander Redmond Born In: Comox, British Columbia, Canada Passed in: Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Passed on: June 11th, 2016 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Cory Alexander Redmond, age 37, on June 11 2016 in Hamilton, Ont. Born in Comox, B.C., he was the son of Robert and Paula Redmond (Ritchie) of Burlington, Ont. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his children, daughter, Hailey and son, Austyn, of Hamilton, Ont. Also survived by his brother, Michael, Hamilton, (children, Olivia and Connor); sister, Melissa, Toronto and paternal grandmother, Helen Ritchie of Moschelle, N.S., also many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Joan Redmond, Gerald Redmond and Boyd Ritchie. Cremation has taken place and a funeral service will be held in Nova Scotia at a later date.
